The trend is that whenever I have the misfortune of having to come here, at least two nurses are going to treat me like a statue made of manure. Some nurses in the ER, like the nurse named Ming, are very kind and have a heart. I can just hope that such kind people are not corrupted by their colleagues with absolutely miserable attitudes, I guess due to management issues and toxic work culture, not to mention sick people who understandably can be very cranky due to pain. Especially triage and “urgent” “care”. This time it took more than half a day (12 hours) to get seen for sudden chest pain and high blood pressure. I know it doesn’t matter one iota to most of them if I die, but they could at least pretend to care. The doctor I saw this time was the polar opposite of the miserable night nurses (except for the one who was wearing a black sweater who was more patient with people). He was very good humoured and understood me very well. Four of the Night Shift nurses were positively acting as if I didn’t exist by the end of the shift. On 16/02/2023 I had the misfortune of coming here with my 5th concussion at roughly 1:30am and the triage nurse with dyed black hair and a rainbow laniard was the most horrifically cruel person I have ever met. She should be fired for the way she talks to males in particular. She was much nicer to the women who spoke to her. I was only kind to her and said nothing in retaliation to her abusive callousness. Very horrible experience causing me to reduce my review to to two stars. What the people and patients talking to her did to deserve her miserable treatment escapes me. One of the most vile people I have ever seen in my life inside or outside any hospital. Mis-triaged me so I was dry-heaving from the concussion symptoms for 9 hours before I got help. Dr. Connolly was very kind when I finally got seen. system. Update 08/2016: My father went to the Civic ER with worsening abdominal pain for two months and total inability to eat. The doctor this time unfortunately didn't provide sufficient assessment; the doctor only told him to "go home and try Aleve". My father was always poor at expressing himself. We then saw a doctor at the General Campus ER just last night, who immediately saw something was wrong, ordered the abdominal CT and quickly found what they at that time thought were two adrenal tumours which were later determined to be other problems (esophageal cancer). I don't understand what happened this time at the Civic ER, but for them to miss a cancer with clear symptoms like inability to eat and chest pain with weakness and paleness is shockingly unbelievable (as mentioned it was esophageal cancer). I know everyone is human but this cost him precious treatment windows. It did disturb me once when I was told by a Dr. Woo at the Civic ER that "we don't look for cancer here". 05/2016: Unfortunately today I was mistakenly told by a resident that my problem "isn't even a thing". My history was unusual this time, but I would have hoped for deeper dialogue and connection to drill down. I then had to go to the ER in Hull and found out I had mallory-weiss tears and am receiving treatment. If you are at the Civic ER and get stuck with a resident who doesn't seem to understand, politely ask to see another doctor.

Our time at the Ottawa Civic Hospital was a very mixed one. The nurses across all departments were fantastic, caring, and were very attentive to my wife’s needs as well as my own as we were going through the process of bringing our first baby into our family. So huge shoutout to them because the month we were in hospital would have been unbearable without them. Our OBGYN was also very helpful and helped us through our journey bringing lots of information and clarification that was greatly needed in a time where a lot was happening at once. Unfortunately, that is where my compliments have to end. The biggest problems we had were all the opinions and diagnoses that doctors would give for us. We felt like we heard 7 different opinions that were never cohesive along with other doctors. My Wife was diagnosed with Preeclampsia, only a couple days later for another doctor to tell us that she didn’t and was going to discharge us with Blood Pressure counts still being rather high. My wife got tested for every.single.thing. Taking blood all the time and while it did rule out a lot of things, it was a lot for my wife to handle. My biggest problems come from the special care unit nursery however. On the day of our discharge, the nurse that was there asked if I wanted to change my baby’s diaper. I said “I guess” tentatively because I’ve never changed a baby’s diaper before and I’m completely new to all of this. The nurse responded very rudely and said “well you’re gonna have to learn how to do it at some point!” Which angered me beyond belief, showing no understanding of any form of teaching for me. Throughout the rest of the interaction she would tell me things to get, and when I didn’t know what those things were, she seem frustrated even though again, I’m a brand new father. It seemed as well that we were very rushed to get us out of the hospital, which I understand when you have a big city with a lot of people and babies to tend to, but if that has to be done, more teaching and guidance would be much appreciated and would have put myself and my wife at ease. Overall, there was good and bad, and we still have a lot of questions that weren’t answered or things that nurses gave us in the special care unit that were either not explained enough, or talking to other doctors and nurses, were just not correct. We still appreciate all the work that was done and the care that we received from the many nurses that were with us over the past month and allowing us to bring our baby home and being able to finally bond and spend time with her.

I do not recommend obstetric care at the labour and delivery unit here. Please go anywhere else, even if you are high-risk and need an OBGYN care. They do not care about women, their maternity care is awful! I have heard many women repeat sadly similar stories to my own of being treated horribly. If you do not accept *their* plan of care for *your* labour they will keep pushing you to do it. They violated every single aspect of my birth plan. I was treated horribly by residents and nurses. One resident and nurse refused to help me when I was having a reaction to one of the medications they gave me. They did not do anything until my husband arrived. When they did provide the care I asked for my reaction stopped immediately and the resident just shrugged. Another resident told me "I told you it would hurt" after he conducted a procedure, that didn't have to be that painful if he was gentle, and explained things before just bluntly doing things to my body. A third resident a NB anesthesiologist got angry with me and said "sit still!!" as he was putting the epidural in. A little bit of empathy of how painful inserting an epidural is could go such a long way, just getting angry at patients because of knee jerk reactions because a large needle is being placed next to my spine is horrible. Also the epidural gained twice! And be he went on to say I was out of it. A fourth resident injured my daughter when she was delivered by c-section. On top of this they are abelist. When I sobbed the night after my very traumatic labour experience there was zero compassion from any staff! An OB I never met wrote in my chart showing signs of baby blues. I could go on about all the horrifying things that happened, but I think I've made my point clear. For the sake of the mother and baby please find an OBGYN ( if you choose or need one) that practices elsewhere.

No communication; the doctors and the people leading the students are completely incompetent. The staff and nurses are friendly and try hard but their hands are tied by the idiot(s) that are responsible for the final say. They messed up my husband’s pain medications after major intestinal surgery and then let him go the first night without half of them. The epidural was put in too high and froze him from the belly button up so he suffered all night. The student doctor/nurse/who knows who it was/ didn’t call because it was too late at night. So he suffered and did not sleep. They do not communicate at all. They told him how great an epidural would be for his pain management, it would be easier. They didn’t tell him he’d get a migraine, the chances of him having migraines for a bit after, or hey, you will have to have a catheter put in. My husband needs to walk to heal - it’s in the doctor’s orders. So they set him up on an epidural and catheter and he can’t walk around. They said it would be easier pain management. EASIER FOR WHO? They didn’t know if the surgery was a go until the evening before, they never sent the prescription to their own pharmacy for his pre surgery antibiotics, and then no one tells us anything about anything. The people on the prep team before surgery were asking questions that we should have been told at the pre-surgery appointment but there was no pre-surgery appointment and they stared at us blankly. This was not an emergency surgery, there was no rush. I hope I never end up here or at the General campus, bring your loved ones elsewhere.

Would give less If I could. Waited 13 hours with my 16 month old child..During this time I watched as nurses hung out talking and watching videos in the office and watched nurses walk by with their phones out watching videos and 0 people were seen by a doctor the entire 13 hours people finally started to get seen at 6:20am which is also the first time I even saw a doctor walk in the emergency department, seemed there was no doctor for 13 hour. Honestly the worst experience I’ve ever experienced. No food no water no drinks nothing and my 16 month old was treated as if he had little to no priority even when he has been coughing for a month to the point he was vomiting mucus in the waiting room and in the room. Oh also don’t get your hopes up when they call you to emergency. You’ll wait hours then go up to emergency then they will have you do urine sample and be sent back to waiting room for several more hours. Then just when you think ok their calling me in NOPE surprise you’re now put in the hall way of emergency to wait several more hours until you finally get a room to wait the rest of the hours until you’ve finally had enough and leave with not seeing a doctor because you’re so overwhelmed and tired. Oh and don’t bother asking how long the wait is the answer is always the same I honestly don’t know.

Your "Nurse" named "Ten" needs to be retrained or replaced. 1am Thursday Febuary 9th To the Registration Nurse who would only tell me her name is "Ten" she has the worst way of treating people. After 3 hours waiting she demanded our seats and that we get up because they are "her seats". We were asked to sit there by the nurses getting my room as I couldn't wait in the hall due to breaking down in an anxiety attack - they ever so kindly let me sit with my roommate just beyond their station to wait for a room. These women were awesome. I didn't catch names but they were great! The way "Ten" spoke to us was absolutely ridiculous. We left. Despite being sent their by our family physician with papers regarding spinal issues that needed to be immediately checked. We left. SHE NEEDS TO BE RETRAINED ON HOW TO TREAT PEOPLE. If nothing else. Would not recommend this emergency room at all. Despite some staff were awesome so was security I noticed - one bad apple will ruin a barrel and Ten, you sure did ruin my experience on seeing a spinal doctor, thanks Ten. I couldn't take how she spoke to us. We will be calling other hospitals to find out if they can help us out instead. WASTE OF $30 IN parking THANKS "TEN". You have your chairs empty as you wanted.

* This review is based solely on visiting a patient at the Civic - I was not a patient * I have never in my life felt compelled to leave a review for a hospital, but after visiting the Civic Campus of the Ottawa Hospital I was shocked at how filthy this hospital was. I noticed the lobby was dirty but thought that could just be due to high traffic. The elevators were filthy, had garbage in the corners of them, and looked like they hadn’t been vacuumed in weeks. There were carts and empty boxes littering the hallways of the 4th floor. The floors in the patient room we visited, looked like they hadn’t been properly cleaned in days. The patient we were visiting had to move buckets and things out of the way of the washroom door, in order to enter it. I personally, used one of the public washrooms, which was absolutely filthy. I have been in gas station washrooms cleaner than this - The grab bar in the accessible stall was too filthy to put you hand on, the walls disgusting with things smeared on them. To be honest, it looks like they wiped them down with the dirty floor mop. If there is ONE PLACE that should be clean - It’s a hospital. Shame on the Civic for being filthier than the parking garage ….

Stay away for neurologist Skinner, he calls women "pretty young things", and when complaining to the hospital, they do not care and just offer a chaperone to the next appointment. They clearly just want to protect disrespectful and disturbing treatment of women and do not actually care about patients care. This "doctor " has belittled us and has not actually helped us at all, has not done his job and can not even fill out paperwork properly. Because of Skinner incompetence we now have to start over with a new doctor . He refused to file the paper work properly even when showed that he was not doing it, he refused to take accountability for his actions. The hospital will not help us and just wants to protect his fragile white male ego and privilege. Only go to this hospital if you want to be degraded and demoralized. They will not actually help in anyway. We have been going through this process for over a year with no help actually given. Only go here to die if you have no other options Th civic does not take womens health seriously, they don't take mental health seriously. They are an absolute joke. This hospital is stuck in the 1950s for patients care and treatment of women

Have been in the ER on a few occasions now and I can say, hands down, awful place. If you have another option, choose it. It took 2 hours before I was fully triaged. Triage nurse was rude and blatantly lied about services offered. Unless you are experiencing increasingly extreme chest pains, you are not considered even remotely important. Came in at 12am, waiting room wasn’t busy and I was told about 2-3 hours. It is currently 9am and I am still sitting in a waiting room. Nobody seems to care that I’m in pain or that I’ve been waiting almost double the time of most patients they’re actually treating. When I asked a nurse at 7am when I would be seeing a doctor, I was told very soon as shift changes are happening and more doctors are coming into rotation but so far those new doctors have taken on patients that arrived after 4am. If I hadn’t been waiting so long already I’d leave and stop wasting my time. And to top it all off, after waiting 9 and a half hours, I was met with a doctor who, in five minutes, diagnosed me, told me what could* be done, told me what he was going to do (nothing) and that I could leave. I will never be coming back to Ottawa Civic Hospital.

Going to the Emergency Department is never a good time and with Covid, it’s even more nerve wracking. You’re unsure of what you’re walking into and the risk you’re taking by being around other individuals who are also potentially sick. Unfortunately I felt it necessary to go in yesterday for heartbeat irregularities and was really blown away by the kindness and helpfulness of the staff. From the nurse who triaged me who told me her personal experience with irregular heartbeats,complimented my purple hair and asked if I was stressed out (thank you, it calmed my nerves and made me feel comfortable) to Dr.Cheung who was down to earth, really took the time to try, understand what was causing this irregularity (even though it’s benign) and even did blood work to rule out a cause. I know you’re all very overworked and understaffed given the Covid situation, I was expecting that to reflect in the care (understandably) but it didn’t , you guys were amazing and I appreciate the work that you’re all putting in for our society to stay medically afloat right now. I hope you all get some respite and know that you’ve done a great job. Thank you .

The doctors really cared. If you are determined to be at risk you will be seen first. The doctor asked really insightful questions and covered many different possible areas of diagnosis within just one sitting question session. Some that I didn't even think about and some symptoms that I didn't think were related were asked about and made me feel like we finally arrived at some correct diagnosis while filtering out unrelated symptoms to the current issue that brought me to the ER. Be forewarned, if you arrive at a time when it's really busy then be prepared to wait up to 8 hours or over if your issue is not immediately life-threatening. If you have a serious issue though, you will be moved to the front of the line as I was. Given my positive experience though, I did also have another time when I came in for reactions to the COVID vaccine. That time it was so busy that I waited for close to 9 hours before deciding my vaccine reactions has passed and it was safe enough to go home. The good news is they now have a wait time display on a TV screen so you will know the wait times, depending on your urgency.

On August 29th. 2021, my husband, Norman Crites, was seen at the Civic hospital emergency because he had extreme pain in his chest and back. In spite of the emergency room being totally full, he was seen to immediately and given two baby aspirin. Within a very short while, it was determined that he was not having a heart attack. He was administered a pain killer that didn’t ease his pain whatsoever. From the minute we arrived at the hospital, around 11:00am till around 11:00pm he was thoroughly checked by the doctors and nurses. His pain was totally gone before he was sent home. Fortunately, there was nothing serious found, and it was thought that he had a severe muscle infection in his chest. He has an appointment next Tuesday, September 7th., with Dr. Effendi, his family doctor. We are both very grateful for all the care my husband was given. If possible could the doctors and nurses working that day and time be told how much we appreciate their sincere care they gave my precious husband. It used to be a great hospital church just the other day. It was return visit after being there just 3 days ago for almost 15 hours. I was returning with the same issues and the same problem. Blood and urine sample we're taken from me within a few hours of being there then I waited over 10 hours to find out that it was going to be yet another three to four hours before I see a doctor. I was so exhausted I wanted to sleep on the floor. I became so frustrated I decided to leave and ask if I could have a nurse remove the IV they put in my arm or 10 hours ago, a little Chinese nurse which I've never seen came over and actually ripped it out of my arm I couldn't believe it my arm is so swollen and bruised. When I asked her why she did that to me she just smiled and walked away. I can't believe there's nurses at the civic hospital that prefer to give pain rather than to help a patient this nurse is dangerous and should not be practicing here And for that reason alone I will drive out of my way to another hospital to seek a medical attention. I will never return to the civic hospital.

I was admitted to Civic Hospital in Ottawa. Some of the people complain about not that much-imported staff like cleaning, come on people it's Covid time and hospital worker work very hard to keep us safe, which in my opinion is the most imported then full garbage cans. For the last few days, I was a patient at the surgery unit, and I don't have words to say thanks for the unit staff. I felt and I was treated like a queen. When I go do surgery room my first welcome was from MD Joseph Mamazza general surgery, he was the very warm and polite doctor I ever see. Doctor Mamazza introduced me to all his team, that was a fantastic feeling I was not sure if that was all for me a regular person from the street, all team make me feel like am Queen, fantastic feeling, I can believe that is for real. All the time I was in hospital I was very relaxing, the nursing staff food departmental, cleaning department was super nice and friendly. For all Civic Hospital staff, I want to say THANK YOU for, a fantastic job I am full Of admiration for all the staff.

I had come to accompany my friend who needed to go to the er, and had waited a total of thirteen hours. Two hours into our visit my friend was given an iv and they left it in her arm for the remaining eleven hours.. and we had to chase down someone to remove it so we could leave and they carelessly ripped it out of her arm which caused her to bleed more than normal when an iv is removed. When after a total of 10 hours of waiting we finally get into a room, and over an hour later are visited by a “doctor” who says the cause of her issue is an irrelevant medical condition she has and is currently on medication for and has under control. my friend had several issues going on with her body and this “doctor” only gives an explanation for one of the several issues which is a false explanation. when my friend asked about the other issues going on he simply said “I don’t know” and then left. If you need a hospital in Ottawa, do not go to this one, it is a waste of time.

Services provided is extensive, wait times has a lot to be desired but this is typical of most major hospitals. Attitude of staffs is broad from excellent to rude. If one lives far away from the hosptial and calling to speak to a loved one it is challenging to the extent they lose "portable phones" so getting a phone to the love one to speak on the phone is impossible. As for emergency wait times it is prioritize so that is understable. Parking for those with handicap permits is near impossible and for the most part is not enforced requiring those with walking issues and with handicap permits walking down 5 floors. But these are the issues with most major hospitals. I would have liked to give 4 maybe 5 stars but the myriad of issues negates that. On a positive note since the pandemic I have seen a lot of improvements and I strongly hope people slice the staff some latitude since they have a lot on their plate (they are people to)

The services the Hospital offers are good…IF you can get to them and to your appointment due the horrendous parking situation. There was a huge bottleneck with people who were so impatient started to drive on the opposite side of the street, so we were stuck….no one could get in or out the parking lot or drive up or down Ruskin street for over 45 minutes to hour. We waited for 2 Years for our appointment and risked it being cancelled due this insane situation. There is little to no direction to help expedite the situation. To not loose our appointment, we drove around and found a spot hoping it would be ok only to be ticketed…Thank you Ottawa. Oh and the MacFarlane garage line up was so long going down two streets that in order to get in line we would have blocked lane ways. We hope that any future appointments will not scheduled to this hospital even though the Doctor was very good.

We just delivered our first child at the civic and we couldn’t be more impressed! Our entire team was compassionate and informative which was really important to us as first time parents. Each member of our team took the time to explain everything they were doing and I’ve personally never had a more pleasant experience with medical professionals. My birth didn’t go according to plan and we were treated respect and a level of dignity that you don’t see very often in this field anymore. A special thank you to a few of our nurses that really stood out, Emma, Melissa and Michelle you ladies were miracles workers in keeping my pain managed, us distracted and aware of what was happening at the same time when our situation changed unexpectedly and offering up a level of comfort that went above an beyond! We appreciate your hard work and dedication.

I've waited 9 hours to see a doctor but that would be okay if they helped me. I had a lot of complaints and symptoms that lasted 2 months, and I was said that I had a Covid. I requested to do a Covid test, but I got a reply "There are no Covid tests at the hospital, you can buy by yourself, but they're only 40% right". I have very serious symptoms, swollen lymph nodes is one of them, so I requested to do an additional ultrasound and testing and they said that there was nothing emergent in my situation, and haven't prescripted anything even for the Covid. I don't have a family doctor, I work and pay huge taxes in Canada, but by any reason, doctors think they may not care about my situation and try to get rid of me. I'm very disappointed and for me as an immigrant, the Canadian healthcare is one of the reasons to immigrate to another country.

If you're a Black couple visiting your spouse, or you both arrive together at the Ottawa Civic hospital, they will separate you guys. But if you're a White couple, or mix race couple you will be let in with your spouse. If you're Black with a white partner or a White couple, your spouse can visit you or if you arrive together, they will allow you to stay together. But God forbid a Black Couple go into the Civic hospital, you'll be separated from your wife or husband. It's disgusting. And by the way. The Black Men or Women you guys date or marry are from BLACK COUPLES. You can't claim to love a Black person and not love what created them. So if your a Black couple, be prepared for the disgrace you're about to experience at the Civic Ottawa hospital. Because Black people shouldn't be together in Ottawa Civic hospital.

The hospital may be old and due for a major upgrade, but the staff more than make up for it. Every nurse I dealt with on my week long stay was curtious and dedicated. Every support staff was polite and professional. And I can't stress this enough, EVERY doctor is top notch, best in thier respective areas, and truely do care about your out come. We are extremely lucky to have the doctors we have, and should be proud of them. For anyone complaining about the food, I did not expect 5 star dining but was satisfied with what I received. The aftercare system they have in place is quite exceptional as well, they have made every effort to make follow ups easy and contact with the doctors if need be simple. Thank you to every single person who looked after me, and allowed me to come home to my children this christmas.

I live with Type 1 Diabetes and the nurses and doctors don't even know I exist. The staff argue in front of patients who they also yell at. It has posted no pictures or videos but as The World Health Organization will see is that there is video of them yelling at a wheelchair bound patient for not being fast enough. The staff don't care to ask people how they are, there is no mask rule for the workers here meaning I will get sick from their selfishness... Once again I am reviewing here only to cover my bases, The World Health Organization and the Ambudsmen of Health is going to be getting a much more involved and in-depth look. I've been in the emergency room for over twelve hours, unlike the staff I have talked to the patients here, and they have a lot to say. Facebook here we come.

The Ottawa Hospital Civic Campus is located at 1053 Carling Ave. It is a very big hospital that dates back to 1924. It serves Eastern Ontario, Western Quebec and Eastern Nunavut. I have found that the doctors, nurses and staff very helpful to me and my family at our times of need. The clinics use up to date technology in their patient care centres and lab technicians offer professional personable service. The hospital can be confusing inside and if you go I recommend you ask for help at the information desk or of the many volunteers stationed at various parts of the hospital. The hospital also has some interesting architecture that you may appreciate when you have time to recover. I appreciate the dedication from those who work so hard in this hospital. We are lucky it is in Ottawa.

What a horrible labour and delivery experience. I’m so traumatized from having my second baby here. They couldn’t find my veins even with an ultrasound machine and their “head of anesthesia” when lifelabs finds it first go lol. We were then charged later for a semi private room. The semi private room had a bathroom with the other persons feces all over it. So $250 to spend my time cleaning the bathroom post partum just to be able to use it. Such a nasty place. I’m so completely traumatized from my experience here, I hope the labour and delivery gets such down so no other pregnant people have to go through what I did. Im so sorry if you gave birth here, we didn’t deserve the experience we got. Brockville hospital was incredible for my first baby if you’re looking!

The Ottawa Hospital performs Medical Assistance In Dying and Abortions. The Ottawa Hospital could easily make a statement against Euthanasia for Psychiatric only reasons but choose against making any statement that many claim would interfere with finances. The Ottawa Hospital does not speak out against these practices. It willingly performs murderous procedures. Because of the lawyers it is called something else. The govt will be expanding into psychiatric patients very soon regarding MAID. Many faith based facilities refuse to comply with these deadly acts of violence against their own patients. I generally never leave reviews but this is probably the worse service I have ever received. I came to the ER hoping to get some help but got nothing. I waited 13 hours for a 3 minute interaction with a doctor who didn’t take any steps to assess the problem. He just told me the symptoms I was having was because of a previous condition that I have, while I tried telling him that I have never experienced these symptoms before. And when I asked about a symptom that was completely unrelated, he simply said “I don’t know” and walked out. They had put an IV in me shortly after I came in, that I then had to find a nurse myself to take it out so I could leave. Extremely unprofessional and unhygienic as well. Never would’ve waited 13 hours for this.

I went into the ER on May 11 in the evening with a broken elbow and wrist. Everyone was so helpful from the girl at the door, who helped me dig out my health card, to the Triage nurse, who took excellent care of me while I was waiting in the waiting room. The wait time was up to 9 hrs, but the staff all tried to be courteous to the patients who were distressed about the wait . I had xrays immediately, and was in a room within 3 hrs, which I felt was very reasonable. I was attended to by Dr Wilson, who was so lovely, and her 3rd yr med student, Matt. Also a very efficient Australian nurse. I can't say enough wonderful things about the treatment I received while I was there. Thank you all so much for helping me through this awful day.

Gave birth on March 29th 2022 and was on the care of a Nurse Named Michelle and a nurse in training named Chyna. I was treated very terribly by the RN Michelle she practically didn’t care for me nor my newborn. Even when she was being called she would rather send someone to Me to ask what I needed like I and my child was a plague. She was supposed to educate me on how to breastfeed my newborn and to also give my baby her first bath and non of that was done. I felt terrible and I had to confronted her and all she could say was I and my child was not a priority to her without any apology. MiCHELLE is the worst Nurse ever and should not be put in that position to care for anyone as she has not empathy or Emotions.

Had a great ER experience here yesterday. This was my first time going to the Civic. I was actually taken seriously, and doctor spent a lot of time running tests, making sure I was comfortable, and that all my questions were answered. Every nurse, doctor, resident, and tech I encountered was patient, compassionate, and thorough. Wait times were not bad either. It took about 2 hours to see a doctor. Also test and x ray results are all available through an online portal which is great. Taking one star off for waiting room covid protocols. Seats should be cleaned between patients, and patients should not have to sit next to each other during a pandemic. Still much cleaner than the ER at Queensway Carleton though.

Ottawa Civic Hospital - Parkdale Campus March 2023 I attended an appointment here. The building was easy to find, and I was lucky to get free street parking on Parkdale that day (around 3 p.m.) Inside the building, everything is marked well with signs of where to go. When I arrived and checked in for my appointment, I was called in immediately, and didn't even sit down. Probably within three minutes, I was questioned by a resident. A few minutes later the doctor arrived. The fastest appointment process ever! After this, I went to the main floor for blood work. In less than ten minutes, I was registered, waited to be called, and had my blood work completed. Away I went. Amazing fast, friendly service.

First time at the Civic. Very happy with the whole experience. Reception/Registration/XRay were very fast, friendly and clean. Getting a doctor to see your case takes a lot of patience since you can be hours waiting. Once you are in Dr's hands all goes smooth again. Had to return days after for cast adjustment at ER and all was very fast. The receptionist at ER could work more on welcome skills. Dr was great. Place clean. They contacted me for XR/Dr follow up. XR/Dr/Reception f/u very friendly and fast. They even made sure I had a bone density study done, and phoned back once I had the results. I'm extremely satisfied with whole experience. Thank you very much Civic for such an outstanding service!

It was a nightmare to get a parking at this hospital, with my handicap parking, did not matter, there was no space anywhere. After driving around, all the lots were full. we lined up at the five story parking for 30 min and few were allowed and construction going on, no one to help or direct and we had to go round and round to find a spot like a puzzle, took another 10 min, no one to help. Same coming out, the exit was not clear, blocked, did not know how to get out, no help, finally got at the counter, paid $14. The doctor said, next time take a taxi/uber or ask someone to drop me. It is a mess up there according to the doctor and nurse. The staff were very professionals.

I went to the Civic yesterday . I had a kidney stone passing. This was my second visit to the emergency room. Firstly, I was relieved that I didn't have to sit in the waiting area for 7 hours like previously. I was put into a bed straight away. The nursing care was incredible. The nurse who looked after me Regina was attentive, caring and obviously loves her job. Thank you for looking after me so well. The Urinology team were awesome! They explained the procedure step by step. I really did feel that I was in good hands. And finally to the nurse Sue who helped me in recovery thank you for your compassion, care and understanding. Thank you!

The doctor asked insightful questions and covered many different possible areas of diagnosis within just one sitting question session. Be forewarned, if you arrive at a time when it's really busy then be prepared to wait up to 8 hours or over if your issue is not immediately life-threatening. If you have a serious issue though, you will be moved to the front of the line as I was. Given my positive experience though, I did also have another time when I came in for reactions to the COVID vaccine. That time it was so busy that I waited for close to 9 hours before deciding my vaccine reactions has passed and it was safe enough to go home.

This used to be my preferred hospital… until tonight. The doctor in emergency told me they’re too busy and can’t put a cast on me, that my family doctor should do that instead. I cried and begged for treatment saying I have no family doctor and I can’t even find an in-person walk-in clinic. The doctor refused to give me the cast he said I needed. I can’t help but notice I’m the only person I saw who was refused a survey to review the Doctor. If I break it worse they’ll maybe help me for once! So I guess I’ll go home and try to break the bone more! Thanks for the medical care :(. Staff is actually super nice though!

Maternity ward - We were given the best care from the moment we arrived for induction, through labour and delivery, and furthermore through our 2 night stay with our Newborn. Truly every person we came in contact with was compassionate and so caring and happy to answer the millions of questions we had as new parents. Delivery room was very spacious and we had a private room for our stay afterwards, Dad was made comfortable with a pullout couch to sleep on. I was given 3 meals a day, all very decent. Where should I start? My father is having a back surgery as I am wrighting this review. He is still at the hospital because he is not sutable to leave juste yet. There is a doctor visiting him twice a day that is super mean to him. That doctor is staring in his eyes and just tells him that you dont need anything. Last time the same dr slaped his back very hard on the spot that thatthe surgery was one. I write that review hoping the admin of the hospital sees it. I am personaly looking for this dr. I have questions answered from him. I will make sure he will be in trouble and he will never do that again to anyone.

Mom died here back in 2016, worst hospital ever. My mom had diabetes, breast cancer, on dialysis so we've been privy to a lot of departments and nephrology is one of the worst. No comapssion for the patient, they are very rude and acted as though we were bothering them. Went into visit my mom on dialysis one day and she had no pillow unreal. When she passed away not even a phone call from the head nurse. I have no words for the service given by all staff at the civic hospital. If I can give it a 0 I would. Told my husband to let me die before bringing me to the ottawa Civic Hospital, better luck for survival.

I am almost never compelled to write reviews. I was in Urgent care (for personal reasons) and quite literally every single nurse and doctor who helped me were not only super efficient but also incredibly polite. Great customer/patient care and service exists even in hospitals where I am sure their job is extremely stressful. Mad props to all who take care of me, although I truly hope to never see you again ;) Thanks team, this review might get sunk to the bottom but I hope at least one of you get the chance to see it. PS: Katherine you are the nicest nurse I've ever seen, big shout out!!!

Obviously a little messy because of all the crack heads and mentally ill who gravitate to this location (guy next to me had to be thrown out for demanding they remove the scanner from his brain), but everytime I’ve talked to a nurse or doctor they are very kind, empathetic, and helpful. You can usually expect ~4-6 hour wait time if your symptoms are not severe, so bring a laptop or a good book. This location has free wifi which is a nice plus. The “cafeteria” is abysmal however, and when I went it was just a shoddy Tim Hortons with 2 types stale donuts and one staff.

I was in the ER last night (April 20, 2023) and I was very impressed with every part of my experience. The Admission and Admin staff were professional and quick. Despite a fairly full wait room I was triaged within about 20 minutes. The staff within were remarkable; kind, efficient, and most importantly compassionate. The ER was highly organized and I was grateful to be seen by a doctor who took my concerns seriously and moved my existing issue along further than I expected. Well done every one of you, right down to the man who was handling the cleaning.

I had surgery done Friday, and I would like to thank all the helpful and cheerful staff, they did a wonderful job. I was treated extremely well by all the employees, and they work really hard. The staff deserve all the thanks (credit) because they are all stars, and heroes in my eyes. The wait time is expected because there are others who are in a more dire situation (life or death or worst off) than you, and you might get bumped at a later time. One of the most important things I learned about going there is to keep your cool.

Hello everyone this hospital is amazing. Every time my mom went there, got well taking care of. everyone, helpfully, nice , and defenetly they know what they are doing and trust them with my life ! No wonder why they are always busy . Today took my mom and was very sick we met Dr Murry today . He took lots of test , very helpful, caring , knows his stuff , and also advised her with things . Very good doctor. was very pleased and happy with his service . If I ever need help it will Be the only hospital I would ever go to.

My family member passed away from Sepsis waiting in the Emergency department for over 3 hours at this hospital. She did not receive proper care and after inquiring from the hospital why this happened, I did not receive a proper response either. Sepsis is life threatening but can be treated with prompt IV antibiotic administration. The fact that this was not done in time is horrendous and very disappointing. After a few months after my initial complaint, I am still waiting for answers. Do not bring your loved ones here.

I had my ankle looked at in the ER at the Civic Campus yesterday. I had expected that I would be there for a long time, so I came with snacks and water and a book. Everything was sorted in less than 4 hours (could've been just good timing). From the moment I walked in, to the moment I walked out I had the best care and kindest and warmest interactions with all staff. I know things have been impossible for frontline staff the last two years, but everyone I saw yesterday was a reminder that true healthcare still exists.

I had a bad knife injury and hand surgery here and have been back periodically for months. The doctors and nurses and technicians are all very nice, even the kitchen staff was super helpful and sweet. Made me want to go back to school and become a doctor. Great hospital. Great people. The Physio woman I had, was the best of the best nothing but good things to say about her. Very patient with all of my questions and nice and knowledgable. I've had bad experiences with the Kingston hospital the civic is so much better.

Worst service ever. I brought my fiance to emergency because of back pain and she she could barely walk and after waiting for 5 hours all the doctor did was suggest takeing advil and Tylenol even though we told them that pain meds DONT do anything but they didn't care. It seemed like they wanted us out of there as fast as possible. She didn't get assessed and they didn't even offer to do an xray even though she could barely walk. It didn't feel like the doctor took her concern seriously at all. They did not care.

Hello everyone! I've been going to the Ottawa Hospital Civic for past 20yrs.to their Neurology department for my ongoing condition and I have always been well treated by my neurologist Dr.Grant Stotts who's very calm, kind and supportive .. the nurses and staff there are great too. I'm pleasant with them too...Elsewhere in hospital I've encountered nice helpful other staff/volunteers too...feeling comfortable there and the cafeteria serves healthy meals.. Horrible experience and I couldn’t recommend it less. My brother went today and could barely walk. They drew blood and told him not to have any food or water. After 5-6 hours of waiting, I’m sure you can tell how an already sick, dehydrated, starved, puking person will feel after such a draining period. No update on when he can see the doctor. Rude responses from the nurses, who kept covering up for each other. Eventually after hours, he left without even seeing a doctor. Don’t recommend here for anyone.

Personally I've had the best experience at this hospital thus far, with my health concerns and I went to 3 prior to this one - all extremely rude to Me - at least here I felt like I was in the right place and I wasnt treated with disregard as to just how sick I am. I appreciate this hospital staff for being so kind and empathetic with Me personally in times when lots of us really need it. I live in Cornwall Ontario but I actually make all my medical appointments for the Civic Hospital only now.

Never go hee we had to bring my mother here was in the hospital for 3 weeks we tryed bring her cloths and a small picture of the family twice both times we brought cloths for her in backpacks both were ransacked all clothing and every last thing we put into the bags were stolen by the nurses or staff. So if u ever are going in for multiple days. DONT BRING ANYTHING or the worthless waste of life staff will steal everything and leave u 2 empty backpacks. Absolutly disgraceful and worthless staff

Terrible experience, will avoid this hospital in the future. Spent 12 hours for results of an x-ray (was told it would be 2 ) after a serious car accident. Neuro doctors had to sign off but we're constantly in surgery. So much confusion on who needed to sign off. Most of the nurses here were fantastic but the hospital in general is very unorganized and no one can make decisions other than the doctors who are in surgery. Just be prepared to wait over 24 hours for something that could take 3.

I have experienced the worse at Civic Hospital today. I am not going to list personal info here but the list of errors and mistakes they did to our family today is an eye opener. Please be careful and don’t be afraid to speak your rights! My respect to all health care workers who do their job with professionalism and respect for patients and families. My family and I will try to avoid coming back again to this place. From 10:30 am to 9: 00 PM We experienced the worse.

Triage nurse has a bad attitude. Nursing staff are more concerned with playing on their phones and going on social media, than actually working. Doctor was standing right there and doesnt care. Very rude and act like the patients are a nuisance. They don't know the difference between what's urgent and non urgent. Patients with broken toes will get treated before patients who are having chest pains. Something needs to be done but we all know nothing will happen.

Waited over an hour and a half to be admitted into to urgent care. Once inside the nurse gave my girlfriend an ear full because apparently she was paged to urgent care 40 minutes prior (while receiving a ECG). It is beyond ridiculous to me that not only did they call her to two different departments at once, but also didn’t do a follow up call for nearly an hour. Wouldn’t recommend this hospital unless you enjoy long waits surrounded by incompetence.

I've come several times to the urgent care due to very concerning symptoms and one of the best things here is this feeling that you are welcome no matter your case. I didn't know whether my case was too light to request an urgent care doctor's attention but the nurses and doctors all reassured me and made me feel validated that it's ok and I should never feel any shame. To me that's so important, people who care and help you feel taken care of.

This place kill people. My father had a mina fall and the doctor recommended low risk hip surgery. Two days in recovery, when I left 6:00pm in the evening, my father was fully energetic and then I was told in the mid night that he passed away. There was no explanation the cause of death, no explanation of what happened in his last few hours. The only word in death certificate is "complication of fall", which makes zero sense to me.

Unsanitary and unfriendly staff, specifically in urgent care. Spent over 12 hours waiting to be seen only to listen to nursing staff talking poorly about other patients and discussing confidential information inappropriately. A gentleman sat in the waiting room for OVER 12 hours COVERED in feces - no one sanitized his seating area, offered to get him a clean gown - the space smelled putrid. I have never seen anything like it.

The most important treatment that the patient takes before treating his physical wounds, he wants to heal his psychological wounds and support through a smile on his face and a beautiful word...And here I especially mention @Rudy Valentino, whom I have not and will not forget throughout my treatment until now..He has been a great blessing to me in making me healthy..So I thank him from my heart, and all the medical staff.

No amount of reviews will change the care system in Ottawa's hospitals (I say Ottawa because I cannot speak to other cities although I doubt it is better). The waiting time at the ER is RIDICULOUS. Shameful to see how horrible the health care system is for a so called 1st world nation. Sending a Shout out to the staff of the Ottawa Civic Hospital ER for their excellent care today! I was visiting My daughter for new years, when she had a situation that required urgent care. With no walk in clinics available, we were fortunate to happen upon this ER. My daughter was treated by kind and competent staff,( in a timely manner), from the moment we arrived. Thank you so much for your compassionate care!

Friendly staff. Everyone was trans friendly, was respectful of my name and pronouns. Wait times were faster than I expected. I was there for a total of 6 hours which is not bad considering I wasn’t in very urgent condition, and I needed quite a few tests done. My one request is PLEASE do something about the screeching door at the entrance to the ER. That thing is seriously brutal and must bother the staff too.

Spent over an hour looking for parking, all lots filled. Having an appointment at Civic is a punishment. Gave up and came home. Asked not to have appointment at Civic but request ignored. Tried to call reception but they don't answer phones between 11 AM and 1:30 PM. Banker's hours? Other times, leave a message, will respond in 2 days. Civic Hospital in Ottawa a DISASTER to try and park / navigate.

Very impressed how the ER handles mental health situations. Sean, who signed us in and did the COVID screening, was caring, welcoming, thoughtful, and professional. He frequently checked in on his ER patients and made sure they were comfortable. He remember each patient by their face and their name. I was extremely impressed by Sean, he made the ER experience a calm, comfortable, and positive one.

Still waiting about 8 hours for a doctor to come to help my mom with anxiety and 2 weeks of insomnia by the way Are they just terribly understaffed? It was my first experience in ER ever and it was an absolute nightmare. You wouldn't expect health care in the capital of Canada to be this bad, when you have nurses just casually telling you that the average wait time to get a doctor is 7 hours.

I'm a 27 year old who's had a heart attack before and came in with severe chest pain. I was pronounced non urgent and given a 7 hour wait time. DO NOT go here for anything serious because their nursing staff is underqualified and can't tell the difference between urgent and non urgent. Makes me sick to think of the people who have potentially died not getting the proper care from this hospital.

4 stars for the care of the amazing triage nurses and ER doctors they did such a good job. Lost one star because when you first walk in the nurse there has an attitude with everyone even if no one is giving her trouble. I find she needs to talk to people with more care and compassion and not sound so rude makes people uncomfortable when you’re there for help. Otherwise thank you guys so much!!

What a difference in service when compared to Quebec The hospital we had our fist child in Gatineau in was horrendous to say the least. My wife had to stay in this hospital for 2 weeks and the staff that work the maternity ward are amazing. They are all so kind and respectful, very attentive and actually enjoy helping people. Keep up the amazing work! You have great nurses there.

I waited over 10 hours to be treated in triage and I understood they are busy. For the most part I was treated well but I asked a nurse if she could remove a port that was inserted into my arm before leaving. I immediately saw the look of distain on her face then pulled up on the port like a hand brake. The pain was overwhelming. No one should be an Inconvenience at a hospital.

There are certain test that can be performed at triage.....it is called standing orders......don't go here if you are experiencing chest pains my son went in at 1230 at night sat in the waiting room until 7am before they put him in a room to do bloodwork and ecg. This should have been done at triage. I have never been witness to such poor stndards of care

We ended up at the Civic unintentionally as my wife developed complications during labour. The OBs in the birthing unit and the fantastic nurses (Sandy, Rylee, and everyone) in the mother and baby unit treated us with compassion and kindness throughout our stay and helped make what was otherwise a traumatic and stressful experience a little easier.

Every nurses, doctors, staff I encountered here are nice, cheerful and caring. The wait time is reasonable. Everything is in line and well-organized. Even though my situation is not in life danger, they did thorough tests and diagnose my symptoms. I can't thank enough to everyone who works here, they are great heros!

Absolutely horrible. We came at 1am and its 7:30am now and still no signs of call. Patients and the person coming with patients will get more sick because of this long wait. Its giving me anxiety and frustration. I am sure nobody will care no matter what you write but I guess this is the only place to vent.

These people were absolutely useless. I could die at any point from a head injury. The people at the hospital were only concerned with their own feelings. I was kicked out after 11 hours of waiting because I wanted to stand at the door of the room instead of sit in the room. They were rude about it too.

Most staff are professional, friendly & kind. The hospital is FILTHY. In the rooms, hallway, everywhere. Cleaning staff??? That's a joke. They dust and wipe inr the middle of the floor. Unreal. Disgusting. Sheets have holes in them. A poor excuse fir a hospital and in our capital on top of that. Unreal.

The Civic Hospital!! After a recent lung problem, and 9.5 hours in the ER ( thank you Mr. Ford. I know where my vote is NOT going next time).. the ER staff, Doctors, and Nurses, were all top notch! Very professional, polite, and attentive!! And the paramedics who took care of me as well, were awesome!!

I spent 5 days in the tent which turned into 4 months. My care was absolutely stellar. The nurses were ran off their feet but the time they took with me as a patient was amazing. The Drs, nurses and psws listen and were so attentive. Ottawa Civic is one of the best hospitals I have recieved care in.

Civic hospital is a great time, very condsiderate. Only downside that after going through a whole conversation about making sure my pronouns and info were correct, I was still misgendered in my appointment notes? Otherwise, it's a much preferred experience to hospitals like Queensway Carleton.

Horrible experience, I came here with my wife with damage on her hand and we needed someone to evaluate her situation and after more than 6 hours no one has even check his injury and she is bleeding... They do not bring any type of priority and they are not professional at all... It's a shame

As soon as you arrive to the emerg, immediate attitude from triage staff. It's not necessary to be rude when people are already suffering and looking for help. We are human at the end of the day. Triage Staff need basic 101 customer service training. Most ER physicians are great, but not all.

Stayed at this hospital overnight for an emerg. Wasn't feeling so well so I ended up going to the emergency. It took a couple of hours to see a doctor but I was happy with the results. They were able to determine that I had a clogged artery and needed surgery right away. They saved my life!!

Had a neuro spinal injection today. Amazing experience. The nurse/technician was wonderful, kind and professional. Dr. Chakraborty was prompt, took the time to explain everything and is exceptional at what he does. The BEST experience with this procedure that I regularly have twice a year.

Parking, parking, parking. Always plan and prepare for the lack of parking when coming here. It's still the only real issue I have with this hospital. Clearly they are building a new one for a reason so it's what you would expect for the age and for Canadian health care at this time.

I had midwife care for my labour and it was amazing! I met my midwives through Ottawa south midwives and they followed my whole pregnancy including my Labour. They were with me the whole time even when I needed to be switched to OB care for my c section. Highly recommend midwives!

Garbage service. I have been here for 9 hours! For possibly broken toes, and have not even spoken with a nurse or a doctor! Hello? On top of that we got nurses who treat patients like children? Don’t come here if you can avoid it. Biggest regret in a time of serious need.

Had a hernia repair last week. Was amazed at the quality of care. The nurses and orderlies were kind, patient, attentive and explained everything that was happening me. This was invaluable for someone with an anxiety disorder. I can't thank them enough!

Security officers are very bias, will not say anything to all nurses or doctors smoking on sidewalks or in court yards. But Don’t be a person on the sidewalk doing the same then it’s a bylaw problem… rules go for all not some practice what you preach!

I like the hospital but Every time I've ever called, the woman that answers the calls is always incredibly rude with an attitude. So unpleasant. You never know what someone's going through, be decent or quit your job if you hate people this much.

Less waiting time at the emergency than the Ottawa General Hospital. The emergency medical staff took care of my injury in a professional and courteous manner. If there are any health issues, the Civic Hospital would be my first choice to go.
