An amazing building structure with an indoor park-like space with a great selection of plants beautifully arranged with walking paths and sitting areas. It has a very warm atmosphere in there so you may want to dress lighter when visiting, but there is a cloak room for your coats. There is also a coffee bar and a restaurant in the complex. We went to the coffee bar, it was very busy, but service was good and my London Fog was great. We had a wonderful time wondering through the greenery and enjoyed seeing many new species of plants as well as many familiar plants. The butterfly gardens and the koi pond are nice features and were quite enjoyable to watch as well. I was impressed by and loved the massive “living wall” of plants in the Mediterranean biome. The waterfall was also a nice added feature and is quite impressive, but I would have liked to see a natural looking waterfall in this tropical park setting instead. It took us not more than two hours to tour around and read up on the various plants, but then we didn’t stop to rest or eat. All in all it was a pleasant experience and a real treat or retreat in our cold winters. I feel it is worthwhile to visit at least one time, if not more, to have an occasional escape from the cold. All the staff we encountered and chatted with were informative and friendly as well. The $15.00 entry fee I feel is a bit much. The $80.00 membership is reasonable if you live in the city and wish to visit more often, but we were only visiting.

It’s an over rated experience , sorry just didn’t seem right to spend $15 per person to see tropical plants and get baked in heat. To be honest , the management should have it posted in their page / website that the temperature maintained inside is 35 + , imagine we come from -35 to plus and are layered up. Also presently it does not have any such exquisite plants or something really WOW !! At some places there was leakage too and the butterfly park that we aired an extra hour to get into was not worth while, hardly any butterflies. The entry charge is not justified. The waterfall is good but again it’s just an artificial one created indoor , not sure if this will be a major attraction. I have read reviews in which it’s been raved as the highest indoor waterfall in Canada . To me the ones outside and natural ones are worth the drive, not this. It does have some nice spots for Instagram pics and beautiful flowers and lots of greenery to lift your spirits in winters. There’s a Starbucks in the same complex , that does not have sleeves for their drinks and they are so busy to even bother to make a nice latte.

I visited the Leaf with my wife and children (ages 7 and 8) on a mid-August Tuesday morning and we had a great time. We spent a lot of time touring the biomes, particularly the tropical, but I could see that some people could blaze through them pretty quickly. Unfortunately, it was a cool, overcast day, so there weren’t a ton of butterflies out, we only saw about a half dozen. The gardens outside are amazing, this would be a great place to sit and have a coffee with a friend. The flowers are beautiful and the fruits and vegetables gave me an opportunity to teach my children about where their food comes from. There is a restaurant on site, but it doesn’t necessarily have “kid friendly” items (though the menu looked great otherwise). We also made the mistake of planning to see the Leaf and the Zoo on the same day. We definitely could’ve spent an extra hour at the leaf. We didn’t get to see all of the outdoor areas in the couple of hours that we spent there. Recommend checking out the Leaf if you have an interest in plant life.

As a wedding photographer at Moore Photography, I had the incredible opportunity to shoot the first wedding at the stunning Leaf building in Winnipeg. Let me tell you, it is an absolute gem. Nestled inside Assiniboine Park, The Leaf provides an exceptional venue that blends nature and modern elegance seamlessly. The botanical gardens within The Leaf are nothing short of breathtaking. The lush greenery and vibrant blooms create a truly magical atmosphere, ensuring that every photograph captures the beauty of the bride and groom against this stunning backdrop. The attention to detail and thoughtfulness in the design of The Leaf is evident throughout. It offers a perfect blend of sophistication and tranquility, making it an ideal choice for couples seeking a unique and unforgettable wedding experience. I am thrilled to have discovered this hidden gem and can't wait to photograph many more weddings at The Leaf. It is a venue that captures the essence of Winnipeg's beauty, and I highly recommend it to anyone seeking an extraordinary location for their special day.

The Leaf - Assiniboine Park - Winnipeg. Despite some recent negative reviews we were pleasantly surprised with The Leaf. The Leaf is a clean and newly built conservatory that is easily accessible and minutes from the Zoo. There was plenty of parking on site close to the building. In the building there was no wait to purchase tickets to the botanical gardens area. There is a cafe and restaurant on site. You are allowed to bring beverages and food in the garden area. There is an unmonitored coat room area we recommend using as it is fairly warm in the garden area. Inside the botanical gardens there is a large variety of plants and features which include a waterfall and pond that has koi fish. Great area for pictures. Building is clearly prepared to accept venues in the future. On the third floor there is a butterfly exhibit that the kids seem to enjoy. Butterflies were very active when we attended at 10 AM. On the way out there is a small gift shop that features a few local items. Recommended visit.

This was one of the places I visited my first time in Manitoba. I spent a fair good amount of time here as I enjoyed exploring the two biomes. The first biome was very hot and humid with a gorgeous waterfall. The 2nd biome had a beautifully arranged scenic garden wall and more desert plants and flowers. The upper floor held a butterfly sanctuary. At the time, there was construction due to the butterflies escaping so I only got to stay in a contained area of the sanctuary. Regardless, the experience overall was still pleasant to the eye. By the end of the walkthrough is a mini shop supporting local businesses and by the entrance a restaurant to relax and eat at. I ended up staying until late and got to see a couple of deers around the park. The architecture of the building at night was enchanting (see night pic). I recommend this place for a cute date spot!

A great addition to Winnipeg's attractions. We visited the 2 main areas/biomes and the butterfly garden. The tropical biome looks like the most developed with a large variety of plants and an indoor waterfall. The mediterranean biome also seems to be partly used for special exhibits (there was a Christmas exhibit when we visited). The butterfly garden is accessed through an elevator. Nice view overlooking the tropical biome on the canopy going to the butterflies. Up there, you also get to see the beginning of the waterfall. There is also a restaurant and shop outside the paid area. Hopefully they are able to build on this some more, especially improving the mediterranean biome, or maybe even add a new area eventually.

There are three biomes at The Leaf: tropical biome, Mediterranean biome, and butterfly biome. The tropical is the most impressive biome — there's a great variety of tropical plants, all shapes and sizes. The Mediterranean biome is also nice, having a great selection of very colourful plants. The butterfly biome, on the third floor didn't have any butterflies when we visited, and it's a pretty small room. But it's still worth getting to the third floor to see the tropical biome from above (check out the panoramic photo). Overall, it was a nice experience, but we finished it in less than half an hour. The garden outside is also very nice.

Very unique building and beautiful botanical garden. Great place to visit and do something indoors to get away from the cold in the winter. Tickets are a bit of a hassle. We showed up one day and were told the next available tickets were three hours later. We decided instead to book online for the next day. They have a little coffee shop and restaurant inside. It looks like there is an event space as well. It seems like it would be a great place for smaller events. Enjoyable overall, but quite expensive for what it is. From entering to leaving it took us half an hour, and we were really taking our time. It is a neat place to see at least once though, and a very nice place to take guests who may be visiting the city.

  • Dave Blicq

Pretty to look at, but... Great architecture. Plants improving. A difficult truth is that they demolished the free, existing conservatory, which was used by countless seniors and many others during our extremely long, cold winters. After using extensive tax-dollar funding (and private sources) to build "The Leaf", it seems to be a philosophy of profits first. A 15$ minimum for a pre-booked (only) one-hour visit. Pretty to look at, but it stratifies us socially by eliminating those who need it most in the name of profit. Those visits to the former accessible conservatory were important to so many... Last thought - "The Leaf" charges the disabled $6 to rent a wheelchair for one hour usage. Sums it up rather nicely.

  • Jepoi David

Visited February 2023 Quite humid inside; I recommend bringing summer wear if you can and change in the washrooms, and leave your winter jacket in the coat room. I had expected the Leaf to be bigger, but it looks like it only has the 2 major sections (tropical and Mediterranean) plus the butterfly garden on the 3rd level. We spent 1 hour in total to see everything the place has to offer. As someone who used to live in a tropical country, it was a treat to see the tropical plants and trees, some of them we had in our backyard and garden. It would be nice to see once the flowers bloom and the trees bear fruits. Did I mention it was humid? Bring water even if you’re not going to be spending a lot of time inside.

  • Nehemias Perez

It was rather underwhelming. The garden is magnificent and the atmosphere is serene. However, I can't help but feel like it's missing something. Perhaps it's a spark of life. It feels like the habitat is teaming with activity, but sadly it's just a recording being funneled in through the loud speaker. Maybe some birds would help the place feel more alive. Sloths do well in these types of environments. It's a reasonable price, lots of opportunities for great photos, peaceful areas to do some light reading, and a great way to learn about exotic plant life. A great addition to your trip to Assiniboine Park.

My husband and I spent our anniversary here - about 3 hours of the day. It was incredibly refreshing and calming. We both work community focused jobs and we really needed the time to be at peace and admire the beauty here. It was wonderful. The plants reminded him of home and the butterfly garden was very lively. (2-3pm seems to be when they’re most active). Im already wanting to go back My advice would also be to go with the intention of being reflective and receiving the peace the gardens bring. Soak it in! Some have commented on the price, and I think if you go with the intention of briskly walking through and taking quick pics, yes, you might be disappointed.

This 5 star is primarily for the wonderful senior volunteer we encountered on our visit at the Butterfly garden in the Leaf! She was so enthusiastic, warm and a refreshing encounter in the midst of all the hustle and busyness of The Leaf. There’s a lot to understand from reading the information boards around the leaf that provide details on the kinds of plants that are available and where they are originally from. The Leaf by itself I would rate a 3 or 4 stars…not that it is not beautiful. It is. Not that it is not spectacular. It is. But it felt more like a spectators garden than a place you would visit to learn and engage with nature in a meaningful way.

  • Tara Mathew

Just wonderful. Even the kids loved it. The teens loved the selfie ops! The adults loved everything. I loved the family photo ops. We spent so much time enjoying the indoors we never actually made it outside so I'm thrilled the outdoor gardens area free. We've got to take the time to go there soon! The Mediterranean room was just a bonus because the main central room gets all the attention and coverage but I enjoyed the Med as much if not more. So beautiful. Far less busy. We meandered in there and our kids played for ages.
Restrooms
Very clean and nice. Once you are inside the gardens though, we're are no washrooms, so go before you head in.

  • Anabsy 786

The perfect spot for plant lovers! Absolutely stunning flowers and plants and a cool waterfall. They even had koi fish! So much to look at! The staff was super friendly and there was no wait time at all. Even though our slot was half an hour, we were able to stay for as long as we wanted. It was pretty hot and humid, so dress light! The only downside was the lack of butterflies. I only was able to see 1. Though, this is understandable, as there was recently an escape, so lots of butterflies went missing. Overall, great place, very beautiful, I'll be coming back again soon!

Lovely indoor botanical garden. Depending on how interested you are in the different plants the walk through can be 10 minutes to 2 hours. A heads up that this is a tropical garden and very warm, even on a cool day. There are places to hang coats/jackets by the washrooms. As an fyi, it is currently August and there were no butterflies in the butterfly gardens. Personally, I find a $15 entry to be very high so I purchased a membership to counteract the pricing, granted I'm a local and can visit often. The outdoor gardens are free.

Admittedly, we aren't the biggest flower/greenhouse fans but enjoyed walking around this nice new building in Assiniboine Park. Lots of nice flower and plant varieties to look at and appreciated the waterfall making for nice background noise as we walked through the Biome. The butterfly gardens was a huge disappointment with only one kind and not many of them. The volunteer told us the butterflies were escaping and looking to fix that before bringing the other kinds back. Nice to do one time but don't see us going back.

What a fantastic way to spend time in Winnipeg. Unfortunately, there were minimal butterflies, but it was wonderful nonetheless. Until they get that sorted out, it is still an incredible botanical garden. Lots of parking nearby. Several biomes to explore. Beautiful 3 story waterfall. Plenty of seating along the walkways. Clean restrooms. Helpful and friendly staff. We didn’t try out the cafe, but it was busy and full of smiling faces. Put this on your list of ‘must visits’ in Winnipeg. We will definitely be back!

It was a lovely couple of habitats, rich with plant life (and fish), in a beautiful building. It would be a very peaceful place to sit and relax, chat, or write (and several people were doing just that). It had a little snack shop, a very small gift shop with some cute items and what looked to be a lovely restaurant. The butterflies seemed to be out of season and it was a bit on the small side, so it took less than an hour to walk around everything at a very slow pace with a few stops to take pictures.

Okay but not amazing. 30-45m should be enough to see the whole place (given that we stopped to take photos as well). Really humid and hot inside, make sure you check your jacket. There is only 1 elevator for visitors to get to the 3rd floor balcony so you might have to wait and line up for 10-15m to get up. 15$/person/visit is not really worth it. Hopefully, it will get more interesting in the future when the trees/flowers/butterflies grow out more. The restaurant looks nice and cozy but we haven't tried the food so will be back and update about the food later.

  • Ian McKenzie

Took some time to visit the new botanical gardens while visiting Winnipeg. We were there on a Saturday afternoon, so the place was busy. There was not a long wait to get in. They have seniors' pricing, which is nice. There is no rush to get through the gardens, but the wait in line to take the elevator up to the top and the butterfly garden was about 20 minutes. A great place to visit on a rainy cool day, and at any time of the year. Will be back for another visit next time we are in Winnipeg.
Restrooms
The restrooms were clean and easy to access.

  • Tara Holland

It was a pretty cool place. Lots of neat and unique plants. Love the 3 storey waterfall! There were hardly any butterflies up on the 3rd floor. I was kinda disappointed. The gardens outside were incredible too! Google doesn't help you find a good place to park automatically, so you want to aim for the lot slightly SW of the Leaf, just off The Leaf Way which you can access off Conservatory Drive. Lots of other spots around the park if you are up for a longer walk though.

This was a really nice experience. I recently moved away from Winnipeg before it had the chance to open. When I came to visit I stopped by with a friend to check it out. We reserved tickets online. The atmosphere is modern & takes you to a different space. It doesn’t feel like you’re still in Winnipeg when you’re here. Tons of tropical plants and humidity abound. There’s two biomes, one has a place to sit and chill. The butterfly room was my favourite. They have a chic restaurant we didn’t try. I highly recommend it here.

  • M Sun

Truly enjoyed the afternoon, an incredible establishment and very professionally orchestrated. Had some educational chats with the staff, and the little lizard is called an Anole. The gift shop is very anemic. The Gather restaurant is too pricey to be inclusive but there is a coffee kiosk in the lobby. Prices to get into The Leaf are reasonable with no time limits. They will put a stamp on your hand to get in and out for the day.

Stroller friendly, nice place to take children to in the winter. Water fall, fish, butterflies, and all sorts of tropical plants. Dining available inside the building (outside the Leaf area that requires a ticket to enter). It’s quite humid in the main area so dress in layers. Make sure to check online for availability because they have limited capacity. You can order your tickets online or over the phone. The staff in the coffee shop, who worked on January 15th around noon, is super kind and helpful, thank you!

  • alexandre j seguin

You can go through the greenhouse fairly fast, but in the tropical section you can really take your time to look at all the different plants layered throughout. There's also some extra gardens accessible for free outside. They had issues recently with the butterfly room, so I only saw one butterfly... There was a small sectioned off construction zone outside, so there might be a few more plants in the future.

We visited as a large family group of 9 on a very hot day in June. It was a very nice outing for us and our out-of-town guests to enjoy. The prices I would consider to be very affordable for a large family too. A wheelchair was available for my 85 year old father which was very much appreciated as my father would not have been able to join us without access to a wheelchair; I am so very thankful for this service.

Visited The Leaf on Saturday and it was amazing! There were lots of people but there’s so much space inside that it did not feel crowded at all. We loved walking around and seeing all the beautiful plants and trees. The fish and the waterfall were really cool. It is super humid inside so be prepared for that. The butterfly room is super cool with the butterflies flying around. They have a nice cafe and restaurant there too. We had a lovely visit and the staff were all super friendly and helpful.

This place is beautiful ! It's a breath of fresh air from the cold! I actually can't believe it exists in Winnipeg! It's lovely and an affordable day activity if you truly take the time to explore everything or just have a seat and soak in the beauty. You definitely get a hit of heat and humidity when you enter the tropical garden so wear layers. There is a coat rack before you enter. It's not a very big place but it's enough for a nice afternoon or longer if you have time.

  • HS B

An exceptional experience, especially for plant lovers or those looking for some solitude or warmth on a cold winter's day. The Christmas 2022 seasonal display exceeded expectations. Plant lovers, prepare to spend several hours here discovering all the hidden gems. If you intend to go back more than three times a year, the membership is definitely worth it. As a member, I have also been able to buy discounted tickets for others to enjoy the conservatory. Highly recommended.

  • Rebecca

Really beautiful facility. Fascinating biomes to explore. Lovely little spots to eat. Super disappointing design for accessability. Only 2 elevators and one is out of order. Foot traffic is both ways through tight spaces, long wait times to get up to the walkway, and no stair option for those who could use the stairs. Unfortunate problem for an otherwise wonderful addition to the park.

Pretty reasonably priced botanical garden. It was beautiful inside, with so many different plants. Everything was set up well and I really enjoyed my visit. Lots of butterflies in the butterfly garden as well. Some were a little hard to capture in a picture, but I did get a few good shots. There were some repairs happening when I went so it was unfortunate some of it was blocked off.

A little under whelmed. But soo happy to have some place like this in Winnipeg. Got a few photos of flowers. The butterflies were beautiful!! Wish that space (butterflies exhibit) was a bit bigger though. AS PER the restaurant....Recommend putting ricotta on top of the sprouts so it doesn't look like a greyish sludge at the bottom 7/10, Burger 8.5/10 Kale vegan salad 9.5/10. The cocktails were soooooo good! 10/10. I had the Gin sour it was very fresh and delicious!

  • Hendra Wijaya

Really wonderful structure with a wide variety of plants within 2 biomes - tropical and Mediterranean. Very warm inside and a great place to escape from the cold outside in the winter months. They have coat rooms to hang your winter jackets but keep in mind it’s not locked so keep your valuables with you. Plants are nice but nothing too exciting except the butterflies. Admission is $15 and you can buy tickets online to avoid a potentially long line.

  • Lightning McQueen

There were both gardens and leaves here, so I think the name is quite accurate. I went for a nice walk and found a cool hill to walk up. It offered a nice view of the gardens and leaves. I highly recommended going up the cool hill.

If you are feeling the winter blues in Manitoba, this is a great place to go soak in the tropical heat and humidity without leaving Winnipeg. It has an incredible variety of plants, a huge waterfall and fish pond, a butterfly garden and a wonderful Mediterranean area with little tables if you want to go grab a coffee and have a seat. Passes are inexpensive and you can put your first visit towards a pass if you like it.

A rainforest and a Mediterranean Garden in Winnipeg.. It is a wonderful place to visit to forget the long winter in Winnipeg.. My kid loved the butterfly garden. It's worth the price. I would recommend getting the family membership, which is cheap if you visit more than once.

When in Winnipeg a visit to The Leaf is a must. From the tropical rain forest to watching them release butterflies it is a feast for the senses. The indoor gardens are beautiful! I spent hours there on my first trip. I'll be making good use of my membership. The plants are beautifully arranged, and the benches provide ample space for sitting back to take it all in or to read a book. I had two butterflies land on me for several minutes!

We went back for a visit. Less crowded today. The plants are doing great. Very enjoyable way to spend an afternoon. Probably pretty good, but we couldn't get in as the tickets were all sold out when we got there. Best to order on line in advance, especially during holiday season.

It was AMAZING the staff are so sweet and helpful. There is so much to look at(outside garden and inside garden), and it is so informative. The only downside is it is humid, but that is nothing they can change because the plants need it, so I would suggest wearing light clothing.

When we walked in, it seemed ginormous as if they put a bunch of exhibits here but they only had two. The two were really cool and we took lots of pictures but it could have been a better experience. The lunch menu I didn't like either. I ordered the baked brie and it was gross.

An amazing attraction which has just opened recently. Some amazing plants in an extraordinary biosphere. The butterfly room is a popular feature. Tip for those visiting though it can get hot when sunny in the summer since it is almost entirely constructed from glass.

Quite a small place. The plants have been doing better recently. The butterfly garden at the top is tiny. However, the kids really love the place and has become our go-to during cold days. Washrooms, coat room, Sbux, resto, souvenir shop, and atm are available.

Very nice gardens, very different than the English Garden. Many plants are labeled. However, they missed an opportunity to educate. I would have loved to know which are annuals and perennials, which need shade, most importantly which are hardy in our area.

Its ok, a lil bit too pricey for the amount of things it offers. it needs more variety in the gift shop. Pretty flowers but it needs a guided tour or more world plants

Loved the leaf, as I am a plant and flower lover. My toddler loved the butterfly garden and the koi pond. Dress lightly as it can get humid and hot inside.

We visited leaf in July. It’s wasn’t too hot. The place is really nice if you love plants, nature, butterflies. They have maintained the place very well.

It was nice, but seemed to be a more commercial experience (little pricey and does not accept other botanical garden memberships) vs a non profit.

Nice new place to go in Winnipeg - beautifully presented and worth the trip. Exotic plants create a tropical atmosphere and the butterflies are very interesting. Go on a weekday as it can be very busy on the weekend. Highly recommend!

Beautiful gardens inside and out. Staff inside were very friendly and extremely helpful. Would love to go back the next time I'm in Winnipeg.

Very beatiful tropical garden! We enjoy it, but the space is limited. Having birds there would be a great addition to the experience too.

Is so nice, I’ve been here a few times now. I love the names of the plants. Sadly, during autumn there wasn’t much butterflies. The plants are growing from each visit!

We really enjoyed the beautiful walking trails around The Leaf with the large trees. The gardens themselves were okay, but not overly impressive. Perhaps once the place is running a few years it'll be more impressive.

I was so mesmerized by this place and omg especially the smell… that woodsy, earthy aroma was so pleasant. The waterfall is cool and there were some cute fishes in the pond too. I really loved it. Do check it out!

Great spot for tourist and for those who enjoy plants. It is small, so your trip will be quite short. No more than 1 hr.

The tropical section is magical. The other parts, while nice, could be expanded. The view from the butterfly area is great, but the butterflies escaped and there are only a few monarchs now.
