I went to The Cutting Room for a haircut with Andre a while back and had a horrible experience. I washed my hair before my appointment as I wasn't sure if they typically wash it before cutting. I left straight after washing it, so my hair was between very damp, and wet when I arrived, (I'm less than a 5 minute walk away) When he asked me what I wanted done, I asked for 3-4" off the length, he said my hair is way too fine and it "wouldn't look good" unless I cut more off (my hair obviously looked limp since it was wet, and I didn’t find it fine even at the length I went in with), so I said that I'd prefer not to cut more than 4" off and I wasn't concerned about it looking fine, but if I felt it was, I would make another appointment after a couple weeks to get more cut off, he was noticeably irritated that I didn't take his advice. He then pointed for me to go to the shampoo chair to get my hair washed, so I let him know that I had just washed it minutes before, which is why it's wet, and asked if he wanted to wash it again, or cut it without the wash, he looked at me with a look of disgust on his face and said he wasn't "touching my hair without washing it" I wanted to leave right after he said that but stayed to avoid any confrontation leaving would cause, especially since there were other customers there. Note: I wasn't against washing my hair again, nor did I expect him to work on dirty hair, I was just letting him know that it was indeed clean so he had the option to not wash it. I proceeded to the shampoo chair, confused why he didn’t acknowledge my hair was just washed and I wasn't trying to get him to work on dirty hair. He made a couple snarky comments about my hair being too fine for that length (just below the shoulders) as he was washing it. At this point, my eyes were full of tears, which I tried to brush off by saying I have bad allergies. We didn't say much during the hair cut, I was very uncomfortable and made to feel that he was above, or burdened by cutting my fine hair. I just kept thinking to myself that I should have left. ------Update in response to The Cutting Room's reply----- He did cut the length I wanted. (I didn't say otherwise) There was no "residue in my hair" and he wouldn't have known if there was as I hadn't sat down at that point. The issue isn't about getting my hair shampooed, (read it again) nor is that the first time it's been "properly shampooed", it was the insults that are the issue, especially given my purpose for going there was to support your small business

Worst haircut I have had in my life, I cannot believe the experience, even we had the discussion why there is the negative vibe and energy, and I gave him tip even after this conversation but he ruined the front line of my hair. When you write walk-ins are welcome at your entrance you shouldn't tell your costumer that why are you “always” last-minute, what does it mean for walk-ins? And the negative energy and the negative vibe while getting the haircut, I haven't seen that before, I know people have hard days time to time but it is not acceptable when your reserved costumes don't show up you behave like this with another costumer!!! He was humiliating me 3 times when I wanted to explain my preferred hair style!!! Ruined my day and my meetings. Update after the owner’s reply: Unfortunately your viewpoint and what you described is quite far from what happened! I tried to paint a realistic image of my experience as a customer. Unfortunately you are not open to receive feedback/criticism and instead tried to paint an unrealistic picture of a disappointed customer. This confirms how unprofessional the reply is to pass all moral lines and tell lies to convince the readers that an unhappy custom is unreasonable. Hope you improve your service and change your attitude and act more positively have some ethics and take responsibility when poorly serviced.q

I absolutely love this place and Andre!!! I’m new in the City and was worried hot to find a great hairdresser/hairstylist and I’m happy I found the best one!!! Andre is not only professional, knowledgeable, modern but also has a great artistic sense and flare. For me, a great hairdresser must be an artist not just a professional. Andre did an awesome job colouring my hair. Making it look natural and bright and just the way I wished it to be! Moreover, he did it Impeccably neat and clean and even made me look beautiful while I was waiting the colour to be processed. ( o weird looking thing-structure as sometimes you could get one in hair salon). Andre also did an amazing haircut brining it to a fabulous shape!! That’s an art for me!! I didn’t have to describe or tell him much how I want it to be - Andre knows how to make you beautiful!! The place is most cosiest and cleanest I been to. It’s never crowded nor loud!!! It’s peaceful and fun! I think Andre just fills the place with his bright and warm energy, which you can feel right away. He is very welcoming, fun and adorable!! I am very happy to find the best hairstylist in Toronto and would always recommend this place and Andre to everyone, gentlemen and ladies! Thank you, Andre!! You’re fabulous!!

I booked over the phone but when I went I wasn't booked in. The owner took me in anyway since he had time but there was such a lack of communication. He didn't explain what he was doing at all. When I asked for a smaller amount of hair to be cut for my bangs he got frustrated at me telling me "well those aren't bangs." I ended up just letting him do what he wanted and I have never hated my hair more. I also got my bangs dyed black and he never told me they would fade (I knew bleached hair would make the dye fade but did not know it would fade to this extent). Not only am I stuck with hair that I need to let grow for YEARS before it goes back to where it was, but I paid $90 for a slight trim and $60 for a partial dye. So overpriced. When my mom called in after and asked for a cut quote she got quoted $70. What a scam. I wish I could give zero stars. Never going back. Owner was so so rude I can already imagine what comment he's gonna leave on my review.

I met Andre at The Cutting Room on Irwin for the first time today. I have been struggling with my hair for years since my long time stylist retired. So I asked for my usual cut and colour. With his knowledgeable and professional suggestions, Andre gently took charge which is really what I needed. He cut and shaped my hair to suit me. It is now really short and manageable and gives a foundation for future cuts. The cut brings out the way my grey is growing in, so he said it does not need artificial colour. It looks natural and attractive. He have me some tips on conditioning. I felt confident he knew what he was doing. He could easily have overcharged me but I came out having only a cut, no colour and he kindly asked if I am over 60 and gave me a discount. I left The Cutting Room feeling and looking better than I have for a long time. Thank you, Andre. I look forward to seeing you again and trust you with my hair care. And love your playlist.

I had the worst hair experience in my life, the staff abused my hair; they didn’t know what they were doing for sure in terms of caring for and maintaining the hair.And they complained it’s because my hair is too dry and damaged. They ripped off almost half of my hair, and my scalp skin felt extremely painful; it got pulled off severely and abusively. I requested to do it by myself but the stuff was rejected. They should not work in the hair salon dealing with beauty and hair. I did my colour, and I am okay with the result. But I personally won’t visit again because I barely have any hair left after the hair session; lots of my friends noticed right away after they saw me after, asking what’s happening with my hair. If you want correctly take care of your hair, don’t recommend it.

I have been one of Pam’s clients for a few years. I trusted her with sensitive information regarding my daughter as I thought she was an ally. How wrong I was. Not only was my daughter terribly mistreated and condescended upon but I had to hear the entire conversation which broke my heart. On two occasions Pam found it important to follow my tearful and shocked daughter outside the salon and taunt her about her medical condition. I do not think Pam is in the right headspace to work with any human being. I have never in my life seen such abject cruelty and carelessness. I will seeking a legal solution to this as I strongly believe that any kind of discrimination has no place in a city like Toronto. Shocked and traumatized. I will never frequent this salon again.

If I could give this salon 10 stars I would. Thank you so much Andre for making a last minute appointment to save my hair. Without knowing who I am or anything about me, he instantly noticed how important it was for me to have a last minute appointment booked in. Not many places in Toronto can do that, but he accommodated to me and my needs. (Recovering physically and mentally through personal illness) I was desperate for a new beginning. When I cried in the chair he was quick to reassure me how my hair will change for the better. I never believed how confident I’d feel wearing short hair. I’m beyond happy, you really brought out the confidence in me.

What a beautiful establishment, so elegant and a kind crew! The cutting room is a relaxing, all-inclusive professional space. I go to the cutting room because my hairdresser is Pam. She has been my hairdresser for eight years and has seen me through many different hairstyles (even the bangs phase). I trust her style, judgment, experience, and class A competency as a hairdresser. I never left her chair but satisfied and happy with my look. She's a professional hairstylist who always received me with unconditional kindness, compassion, understanding, and safety. I don't think of her as my hairdresser only, but rather part of my extended family.

My hair was completely damaged when I went to see Andre for the first time. He took ample time to discuss various options which I really appreciated. Andre is really patient and showed utmost care and attentiveness to listen and understand the hair care I wanted. He was extremely professional and thoughtful. When I left the salon, I was so happy with the service and the look of my hair. Andre transformed my hair. I have been to many salons and I can honestly say that Andre has the perfect attitude and magical hands. After walking by this salon many times and after reading the reviews (good and bad) I have finally decide to give it a try and it was a great experience. I didn't have an appointment but the Owner Andre was so nice to stay after operating hours to accommodate me. Although he was closing down he still offered me a cappuccino, tea and water. The salon is small, clean and intimate and is on one of the best hidden streets in downtown Toronto giving you a boutique salon feel. The service was great, Andre was great and funny and the cut was detailed. I will definitely return to this salon and tell my friends also.

5 years ago I went to Pam to add a bit of blonde to my life and I've never looked back. I cannot praise Pam enough for not only her high level of skill/artistic talent but also for all the fun and laughter we have together. I will be a loyal client forever! For the Cutting Room itself - I just went for my first time and I loved my experience! The location was ideal, the salon itself was extremely clean, and the atmosphere was so friendly and warm. I always have a great time with Pam but, in this setting, it was even more fun. I can't wait for my next appointment!

I am very disappointed . I had booked with this gentlemen, for a consultation to come for him to get my hair dyed. He suggested that I come to him for a consultation and told me that I would get my time wasted which doesn’t make sense. So I agreed, to make an appointment and talk with him about my hair tones and what we can do. As soon as I showed him pictures of my hair in detail he cancelled me and said that I was dishonest for not telling him the date I got my hair done which does not make sense to me. Very rude attitude! Will not be attending this place!

I'm so happy to have found Andre. A hairdresser who listens! He gives the best haircuts/trims without cutting too much length off, which is key when you're growing your hair long. I've had a botox treatment done on my hair, that I recommend to anyone who wants smooth, shiny, frizz free hair. The keratin treatment is also amazing, cannot wait for my next treatment. I used to hate buying hair products at salons, because they never did what they promised. However, I love all the products that Andre recommends they keep my hair shiny and healthy between visits.

It was my first time here and I left as one happy woman. I didn't get the name of the gentleman who greeted me and shampooed my hair but he was such a sweetheart. He was very gentle handling my type 4a/4b hair and very professional. Andre is such a lovely human being and so passionate about his work. You can tell he genuinely enjoys his chosen profession. His magical hands were able to flat iron my hair so well that it looked like I had a chemical in it. Needless to say my cut was gorgeous. He has a new client for life now.

It’s extremely hard to find a stylist in the city who can manage curly hair and style it to perfection. I’ve visited other salons in the past where I was not fully satisfied with the outcome. However, Andre achieved both. I have never ever seen my hair as straight, smooth & polished as Andre got it ! I came in to get a trim as well and this was the best cut I’ve ever had. I need a haircut bad so after calling around and getting denied I finally got in touch with André at the cutting room . I asked if I need an appointment and he said it's better to book as he wouldn't want me wasting time sitting waiting for a stylist to become available. The service was great the hair cut was great and I'll definitely be going back!

I have been seeing Pam for years, and she does an amazing job with my hair! I see her regularly for highlights and a cut. She is so talented and I don’t trust anyone else! I have followed her wherever she goes, and the cutting room is a gorgeous salon! I felt so relaxed and comfortable. The salon itself is clean, bright and calm. I had my hair cut by Andre about a month ago, and it was the best haircut experience I've had. He gave me a great cut that worked well for me, and educated me on the correct products/techniques to use for styling. I was going from fairly long hair to a much shorter style, and he made sure that my new cut was a good base if I wanted to grow my hair back out, but also something that was easily styled with little effort.

I came to Andre for the first time a couple days ago. He's so engaging and easy to work with. The service was amazing. Without much direction, he was able to give me a haircut that was better than what I was expecting. Andre has been doing my hair for nearly 15 years. He is true professional and master of his craft. Most recently I believed I had irritation to my scalp from bleach. He insisted I see a dermatologist and even reccomended Dr. Simone (Etobicoke.) Even the doctor expressed how impressed he was with Andre's insistance. Currently on my way to my appointment now, in a blizzard, he's worth the effort.

I have been going to Andre for a couple years and I love the way he cuts my hair. The cut lasts a long time and always looks good. I have had the keratin treatment, too, and it made my hair smooth and protected and really straight! I also love how the keratin treatment makes me look more polished with less effort. I always get compliments on my hair, and I’d recommend Andre to everyone!

I’ve had Keratin treatments done at other salons but Nino does a much better job. The product he uses is high quality. Nino really takes his time to apply the product to your hair. He is very thorough, detail oriented and honest. He has done my Keratin treatment three times and I am always very happy. It lasts a long time. My last treatment lasted 7 months. I highly recommend Nino!

I had a French Bob. It was amazing, I felt so good during the process and they were both so kind , beautiful individuals. In the end, we casually exchanged interesting ideas on self-care and I felt so satisfied with my hair style from the beginning. My haircut lasted in impecable shape for an entire season, like four months. This is a very good place to go for a haircut.

My regular stylist went on an extended vacation and I had to find a replacement, so I tried The Cutting Room. The whole process was very smooth and i was very happy with the results. Andre was on time, did a great job with the haircut, and everything (cut/wash/scalp massage/blowdry) was relaxing and enjoyable. Definitely recommended, I will be back for sure!

My hairdresser Pam is amazing not only is she a fantastic up to date hairstylist whom I would follow anywhere and have. This shop is so friendly, gay friendly too, clean, up to date and beautiful people and personalities in everyone I've met. Men, women, walk ins and appointments they do it all. Coming from another country, I was worried about finding the right hair stylist but luckily I found Pam. She always provides me with consistent and awesome haircuts, and is always super friendly. I had been to a couple of other places before landing at ‘the cutting room’ in downtown. Andre is the best hairstylist i ever had. He is so precise and neat. Very rude and moody owner, Andre. He'll be fine and then suddenly turn moody with you for months for trying to ask about the smallest details in your hair. Not worth the attitude, temper and price for a job you can get pretty much anywhere. Countless other reviews say the same thing about him being rude, not a coincidence.

Best colour and cut I've ever had!!!! Don't walk to The Cutting Room....run! The salon is modern and clean. Andre the new owner is professional, personable and funny. More importantly he really has honed his craft! He's an artist! I left with a bounce in my step and feeling like a new woman!

Andre (the owner) is the BEST hair and makeup artist I have ever worked with. He has styled me for countless events, weddings, etc and the look is always spectacular. He is truly gifted and is an absolute joy to be around. He listens, creates and the results are nothing short of stunning.

Way back in the 70's, I was a downtown Toronto girl and lucky enough to have my hair styled by Vidal Sassoon and Robin Barker, who are, of course, legends in the field. In my humble opinion, Andre is right in that lofty league. If only I lived closer and could go more often.

Today I had the haircut I always dreamed about. Andre was incredibly professional and confident in his cutting abilities. Wit my eyes closed it was like listening to Edward Scissorhands! So happy with the results!! Thank you Andre and I look forward to years of hair styling.

Really nice place, the staff is so nice, they give me a few recommendations for my hair. Hector was the one who did my haircut and everything was accordingly my request, he speaks Spanish and English. Definitely I’ll be back.

The Cutting Room is tucked away in a beautiful location, it is bright, airy and extremely welcoming. Andre is incredibly talented, always up on the latest trends and always surpasses my expectations upon every visit.

Andre used to do my hair at another place and I'm surprised he is still around. He's moody and temperamental and can't deal with curly hair. I can tell he hasn't changed from some of these reviews. Don't chance it.
