I am reviewing the emergency services of this hospital and not commenting on any other part as I am not aware of that. I went to the emergency on 9th September 2022 due to some concerns around a chronic wound. I regret going there at 4.30 PM as it took me more than 16 hours to see a doctor and I felt like a ping pong ball during this time with no one to talk to and being referred to different areas of the emergency with no clarity on what the plan for my care. For the first few hours, I waited in the general emergency wait area. Then a nurse came and took blood sample. I asked her why she was taking the blood because for the concern I had, there was no distant relevance of taking blood. She could not give a satisfactory answer but I believe they just go by blind protocol. Then I was referred to purple zone. After waiting there till midnight, a nurse came and told me that I was the next to be seen. Half an hour later, he came to me and told me that that is not the right zone for me and took me to the orange zone. When I went to the orange zone at 1 AM, there was 8 patients ahead of me and it took them till 7.30 AM to see me. During the time, I saw sick people inhumanely sitting around here and there with no arrangement to sleep or rest. When I went to the nurses a few times to politely ask about the wait time, they seemed irritated and impatiently gave a template response that there are patients who are waiting for longer. I understand they were waiting longer but one mess does not justify another. Finally when I was able to see a doctor in the following morning, she was a general partitional and had no answer to any of my questions saying she is not an expert of that area. I was totally frustrated finding that service in an urban Toronto hospital is worse than that of any third world country. I am an internal control professional and a certified internal auditor. I am more than certain that the hospital has so many things to fix in terms of processes, efficiencies, culture and effectiveness. Hope the hospital authority (if there is one) will take a look to address this rather than justifying all the mess referring to lack of resources. Oh one more thing, in response to this review, kindly do not ask me to reach out to your patient experience team. I many many people shared similar experience as mine and all you did is to ask them reach out to patient experience team. I am sure many people reached out and nothing changed. Change takes intent to change, not excuses.

My recent experience with Sunnybrook hospital was deeply disappointing and concerning. My mother underwent a serious surgery performed by Dr. Andrew Dueck, but our experience with his care and the hospital as a whole left much to be desired. Following the surgery, Dr. Dueck failed to provide updates in person and only briefly called to provide a quick update. This lack of personal communication and bedside manner was disheartening, especially during such a critical time for our family. Throughout my mother's stay in the ICU, Dr. Dueck did not make any effort to visit her or engage with our family. To make matters worse, my mother expressed concerns and complaints during her hospitalization, but the medical staff dismissed them as normal and did not refer her to a specialist. As a result, we assumed her issues would resolve over time and she was discharged. However, just two days after returning home, my mother experienced severe complications, including difficulty breathing, bleeding from her incision, and a panic attack. We had to call 911, and she was rushed to another hospital for an emergency surgery. The attending doctor informed us that had we not acted quickly, my mother's life could have been in serious danger. This unfortunate situation could have been avoided if Sunnybrook hospital had paid attention to my mother's complaints and taken appropriate action. I made efforts to communicate these concerns to the hospital, but their response was unsatisfactory, showing a lack of concern and empathy. I write this review to shed light on the inadequate care and communication we experienced during a critical time for my mother's health. It is crucial that patients and their families receive proper attention, care, and follow-up, which sadly was lacking in our case. I hope that Sunnybrook hospital takes this feedback seriously and implements necessary improvements to prevent similar instances in the future.

The doctors are knowledgeable and skilled; I am grateful for the procedure my father got. The day nurses are personable and very helpful, thankful for that. The night nurses have a personality pattern of being no where to be found, a bit lazy, and trying to do minimal or expecting patients to request basic care needs. The issue is, a 75 year old open heart patient who was in the CVICU for a week and is just learning to move around with physio will not shout for you when no one is responding to his call bell. As well we recived a response of “he can tell me what medication he needs” - no, he can tell you what discomfort he is feeling, your job is to decide what medication is best to manage his symptoms. Nurse AIds and students; all were clueless. God knows what online learning portal they came from. I witnessed them yanking an elder man post op onto a wheelchair and had to tell them “you need to be gentle” ; witnessed them not cover the patient who is cold with his skin out from the robe; witnessed them get offended and reply they are doing a favour to begin with (great nurse you’ll be); and witnessed them hurry off without telling us who we are seeing at this derm clinic - even front desk was puzzled as to why she ran off without communicating who is here and why. Food is another mystery. I’ve attached the food they served. For two days straight my father got tea and apples (no meal) at the CVICU even though the nurses kept updating his profile requesting a full meal which he was allowed to have. What is your budget for a meal Sunnybrook? My heart goes out to patients who do not have close family to attend to them daily for meals or to help tidy them up and keep sane. I request the hospital to contact me to discuss many administrative and customer service issues that need to be dealt with to provide decent care to elderly patients at the hospital. Regards.

Rudest nurses I’ve ever encountered. Firstly we waited 6 hours to even get seen by a physician. After they did some X-rays they could not determine the cause of the chest pain so they wanted to take some blood. At that point it was 7 hours and my partner and I hadn’t eaten since breakfast it was now 5:30 pm. They said we could go to grab something to eat while waiting for the blood results. They then decided to do some heart tests and because of a heart pallputation( which he already new he had) they told him he could not leave to go to the food court because they wanted to monitor his heart. We asked if we could just go get something to eat and if they could call us when the blood work came back they said no. They then moved us to a different zone to hook him up to a machine , however half hour later they decided not to hook him up to the machine because another patient needed it. They said we can go grab something to eat again and that the results would be back in a half hour. At this point it was 7:00 pm and there was barely anything open in the food court to eat. We instead got this vending machine pizza that was like cardboard. By the time we ate we decided to go back as it had been a half hour. They said the results still weren’t it. When all was said and done it was 8pm. 10 hours of waiting, not being told anything that was going on, just to find out everything was ok.

I understand that Ontario’s health system is failing at a rapid rate, but I just wanted to share my experience. My husband went into emergency because of a blackened cyst that was bleeding and pus was coming out. We were admitted into the minor injuries waiting room at 8:30pm, waited 2 hours before his name was called and he was put on a bed. Totally fine with it, understandable, things take time, no problem at all. 11:47pm rolls in and one of the staff comes in and informs us they’re closing the zone and we won’t be seen by anyone anymore and have to wait in the main room along with the major injuries. What? You couldn’t have communicated your closing time (12am) to us when you first got us a bed @ 10:30pm, and that there are x number of patients before us therefore we will most likely not be seen by a physician before closing so that we could assess and make a decision? Literally a few words could have made a difference. Only thing the staff member could say was “sorry to be the bearer of bad news” not “sorry we failed to inform you not to waste your time here because we’ll close anyway”. Great! If I had known then maybe I would have tried another hospital, but thanks for making us wait for nothing!

If you want your loved one’s life to be prolonged or at least make the inevitable a more comfortable place where your family isn’t harassed, verbally assaulted, patient given drugs/medication against your concern and will then seek another hospital other than Sunnybrook Palliative Care. If you’re looking for a place that will give you peace of mind that your loved, when you aren’t there is taken care of and respected find another hospital. My advice to ANYONE who is considering placing their family/friend in Sunnybrook’s Palliative care .….stay very far away! Do you due diligence and research, ask questions, document everything. Talk to your loved one about things that take place in your absence. Follow up with nurses about the patient even though their answers are mostly “I don’t know I just started my shift” 3 hours into their shift. Question about meals and feeding, any new medications introduced. Ask questions and don’t allow them to give your family member just anything without your knowledge and consent. Advocate for your family because their life truly does depend on it.

Twenty years ago, this hospital was one of the best. Currently, it’s one of the worst. My mother had a series of seizures and was admitted through emergency. After waking up in the icu, my mother was out of it and needed her family there to ground her. With the exception of one or two fantastic nurses; she was constantly disrespected by doctors who ignored her questions and treated her like she was stupid. Then when she was moved to a regular ward, the ward itself had a Covid outbreak so my family was banned from seeing her. Despite her needing family at this moment. While in hospital, she complained to the doctors of having a sore shoulder which was repeatedly ignored. My mother had imaging done at a different hospital much later and the muscle was torn. When my brother tried to get my mother out of the hospital and home to heal, the doctors threatened to call the police on him. In the end, we got her home and she is flourishing. Never. Again.

I’m not sure why the reviews are so bad. Today I had a very good experience. Everyone was nice and empathetic. I had the best doctor , I forgot to get her name. Young Asian woman dr. She is an incredible human. The first nurse who took my blood, he was so nice and gentle as well. The check in front staff /triage nurse all SO friendly. It really made a difference for me today . I really appreciate everyone there. There was a wait time but it’s normal and it wasn’t even that bad I got there around 1045am and was finished everything by 345pm. This is by far best hospital in Toronto from what I’ve heard and now my own experience. I never go to hospital often but last I had to was st joes because it was closer to me at the time and that was a very bad experience from rude front desk to rude doctor. I was worried what today would be like and I am so grateful for everyone there today. The Health care workers at Sunnybrooke are amazing people, truly.

Last few times I have been in this hospital in 3 different departments I have been treated in an unprofessional and dehumanizing manner. They have zero respect or compassion for persons with disabilities as evidenced by how they speak to, interact and address any concerns etc. Quite frankly should be ashamed of themselves for how they treat the public especially those with disabilities. Horrendous treatment at the Odette Cancer Centre by a power hungry employee. You know who you are and you will have to live with your own karma and the great thing about karma is you have to live with yourself and I get to walk away. For the comment writers on here, I share your sentiments about how deplorable this hospital and some of its employees are and do not expect to get anywhere with their Patient Relations Office, they are there for the hospital not the patient. Patient relations? many here need a extended training course on how to do this!

I have a complex neurological spine condition that I am currently being treated for by Dr. Anish Kapadia. He is knowledgeable, empathetic, easy to talk to and an excellent doctor. He was able to locate my spinal cord injury or tear in the dura that surrounds my spinal cord; no other doctor was able to do this! He answers all my questions and is willing to take the input from his patients and truly listened to me. I am still being treated by Dr. Kapadia but I can say without a doubt that Sunnybrook hospital is lucky to have him. Also, a shoutout to Denise who is part of his admin team. She is easy to reach and does her best to advocate for Dr. Kapadia’s patients. She is fantastic! Dr. Kapadia and his team are still helping me navigate treatment options and I’ll hopefully be on my feet and 100% healthy again this coming year. I am very grateful for the care I have received so far at Sunnybrook.

I was brought here after a major car accident. I was critical and brought into trauma bay 2, all the doctors were amazing taking care of me. My nurses were equally amazing. I spent a week in the hospital and now being treated as an outpatient. I thank god I was sent to this hospital because they saved my life. I also have went through the ent clinic here and for a cochlear a few years ago, those doctors, nurses, support staff and receptionist all amazing as well! Honestly can’t say enough great things about this hospital. Please don’t go to emerge unless absolutely necessary as they do deal with a lot of trauma patients. I spent a couple nights in ICU and recovery and when I say it was constant trauma patients rolling through I mean it was super busy with those types of patients. Please be patient as they’re continually saving lives. Thank you once again to the Sunnybrook Team :)

Toxic and unprofessional work environment: - Past management did not support staff, treated staff disrespectfully and did none of the work required as Manager - Toxic "we're a family" mentality - Unprofessional handling of sensitive issues/situations - Poor time management from leadership (e.g., 2-hr scheduled meeting going on for 4 hours instead, director never on time for meetings or goes over meeting time, etc.) - Awful micromanaging from the director - Not an inclusive space, often felt cut off from the team - Senior leadership not hiring competent people (e.g. past manager was handed the job, director was handed the job) - HR is a joke -- still have not heard from someone about an exit interview; HR handled a sensitive harassment issue too slowly and did not provide proper solutions during "investigation" Avoid working here if you can.

Worst experience ever. My mother was taken to emergency room due to a fall by an ambulance. After sitting in emergency room for 39 hours, They have admitted her to a room on the 4th floor. After 4 days of waiting we get a nice resident doctor to have a look at her, letting us know that she has a fracture in her hip. The staff are always busy or on a break. Finding someone to talk to takes three or four hours of waiting. The nurse is very nice and friendly but there's only so much she can do. The physiotherapy that is supposed to happen everyday happens only twice for the entire week, when we approached the physiotherapist we were very rudely answered we are busy. We don't know when she's going to be released we ask for information we are told somebody is going to get back to you. This is the last place you want to take you love once.

Yesterday night I arrived at this hospital with 38.4 fever, flu and cough at (6pm ish) went to emergency zone for registration. They told me: wait for your turn, someone will call you. At 7pm they called me to get my personal information in order to give me this bracelet with my name, etc. They told me again: Have a seat, someone will call you. At 8ish they call me again to take some blood samples. And again they told me: someone will call you. (At this point I’m feeling deezy plus my fever) I thought a doctor or a nurse will call my name immediately. The clock hit 11:36pm! I was there literally passing out with no one there to offer me at least some sugar or offering some explanations of what was happening. I had to leave with my fever, with no answer and with all my frustration of not being served. IT’S A SHAME!!!!!

  • Yos M

I would give 0 stars if possible. Really disappointed with my visit. I arrived around 6 pm with a growth in my chest that was causing shortness of breath and shooting pain. I waited for literally 9 hours without being seen by anyone, not even a nurse. Their system showed that I was seen by the physicians assistant and no matter how many times I continued to stress that I wasn’t seen by anyone, it literally made no difference. After creating a bit of a fuss, they sent a nurse to take some blood work. It took her about 2 hours to service me and ended up bruising me without extracting enough blood. Fast forward to 4am, they tell us that there’s 7 people ahead of me, two traumas and only one doctor working. So after waiting for almost 10 hours, I left the hospital with worsening symptoms, a bruised arm and no help.

Sunnybrook hospital is by far the worst hospital system I’ve ever used. No practitioner or clinic gives you the time of day. You call and listen to automated menus, leave voicemails just to never hear back. I find I have to be my only advocate as there is no support to get you the care you need unless you are arguing on your behalf. There are developing countries that have facilities at par or better than Sunnybrook and the wait times are hard to fathom they are so bad. Would strongly urge anyone to seek out alternative care if possible. EDIT: 1.5 weeks post op and my surgeon informed me of a follow up appointment for 3/31 at 8am, when I arrived they had no record of said appointment. EDIT 2: went for second follow up for X-ray on 4/14 as instructed by fracture clinic and they had no record of X-ray order.

One star is one too many…Luckily haven’t been here in a while. Came in with a severe allergic reaction to unknown component ( rash, throat expansion, full block of air flow) the humpa lumpa behind security glass couldn’t even dispatch triage nurse (who was chatting with the registration staff behind a set of doors that can only be accessed by personnel. Blood stains on the floor in the waiting area, empty coffee cups and garbage on the floor in the actual emerg, ran down badly… culmination; approximately 9 hrs wait … no empathy , feels like ppl are there to clock in and out. It’s a tough calling to come to aid of others , ppl don’t go to emerg for a coffee so dealing with different and at times difficult people who are in pain but are still trying to be nice is a calling not a job

  • V C

The longest wait times I've ever encountered in my entire life. Rude unattentive staff. If I could give a 0 star review I would. Came in overnight with a shattered ankle that was dislocated. Was told it was going to be a 7 hour wait after already waiting 3 hours. Whoever does the staffing of this hospital needs to be reassessed. I was expected to wait in the waiting room in excruciating pain. I am unimpressed and disgusted with upper managements inability to run this establishment. To make things worse I had to leave and go to north yourk general who got me in within 2 hours. They said my leg was so bad that I could have had a stroke . Thanks for not helping me . Not even giving me a bed .Pathetic staff hate that my tax dollars goes to this unfit hospital it makes me sick.

September 6, 2023 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Today, I had an appointment with my MS doctor at Sunnybrook. Having been here for appointments in the past, I've always been impressed with the high-quality service they provide. Parking is conveniently located near the front entrance, and there are nearby pay stations for easy access. Inside, they have hand sanitizing stations and provide masks, and you'll find plenty of helpful staff to answer any questions and guide you through the hospital. Wheelchairs are also readily available at the entrance. I have the utmost satisfaction with Dr. Lee, who consistently takes the time to address all my questions and ensures I have a clear understanding of my medical plan. I feel incredibly fortunate to have access to such excellent healthcare services.

  • roxanne estor

Staff are friendly, courteous and very helpful. I was discharged from other hospital and was advised to wait for call after 18 hours of excrutiating pain, I was sent home with nothing just that re-assuring words from not-so-friendly nurse that "doctor will just call me" and Leukocytes already almost doubling, CT and UTZ both showing abnormalities, as a healthcare provider myself, knowing something is already wrong, decided to go to Sunnybrook. The moment you enter ER, you will greeted by friendly old lady who will assist you on their process of registration. ER nurses are very friendly and doctors will let you feel you're human with feelings. They're all efficient and knowledgable. I was admitted shortly after and did not wait long. I will be forever be grateful.

  • SAKIB

It's a very big, well equipped and important hospital. However, from my first hand experience haven't been entirely a positive one. I noticed a nurse tone-policing a frustrated patient, instead of helping that patient. One curious thing I also noticed was another patient in the emergency waiting for over five and half hours for treatment, while there are well positioned monitors that was advertising that Sunnybrook was named 'one of the best hospitals' by 'Newsweek'(a not-so-trusted big newspeak media group). Aside from the Orwellian themes throughout the hospital and their enforcements on their patients, I do have to say most nurses are grudgingly helpful and this hospital is well equipped to serve a very important role in North York.

  • Tatiana L

In 2011 I was ran over by a car and had to go to this hospital. I was in a coma 3 days after this incident but before that happened I vividly remember asking a male nurse politely if I could have a glass of water. He told me to get it myself and rolled his eyes. I could not move at all I was literally disabled. my right leg was broken. They also “lost” my CT scan of my head so I could never receive any treatment for brain injury. Unfortunately for years I have come to use this incident of how horrible Canadian health care is. I live in the U.S now and tell everyone I know how horrible this was. Please do better. Your services are completely deplorable. People are sick/ have injuries and may actually need help.

  • Candi Zell

Sunnybrook is a nightmare of a hospital. Patients have no rights whereas staff, particularly nurses and admin., abuse their power and authority to mistreat and intimidate patients. They call security to deal with patients for perfectly acceptable behaviour, such as asking questions. Security officers refuse to listen to patients whom they continue to berate and threaten with cancellation of their appointments and/or being forced to leave the hospital. Sunnybrook belongs in a dictatorship, not a democracy like Canada. Its employees violate the Charter Rights and Freedoms of Canadians with impunity. Sunnybrook does not merit any public funding let alone being one of the few trauma centres in Ontario.

  • Blake Acton

Unfortunately I’ve had to attend the Sunnybrook Emergency Department on several occasions for either myself or family members. Each visit the Emergency Department has been filthy, the bathrooms are gross and the waiting room looked like it was crawling with germs, the floors and chairs were sticky. My last visit I had to wait 14 hours to speak with a emergency physician, it’s very frustrating and disappointing. I’m not alone with these concerns others in the waiting room we’re also disappointed with that level of cleanliness and lack of staff organization. I kindly ask you review your cleaning and response policies to patients attending your hospital when in need of immediate medical assistance.

  • B Tesner

Not a good place to work as a float staff nurse. Nurses will ignore you if you are not from their unit, or talk down to you as though you're unintelligent. The personal support workers who help bathe and turn patients can't be found, again because they are ignoring you because they don't recognize you as one of their nurses. So this creates frustration in giving the patients the care they deserve. If I'm getting treated this way regularly when I show up to work on a new unit with new staff, I don't how the agency nurses can endure a shift and keep coming back! I hate floating, but it happens, and management does not seem to care about enforcing Sunnybrooks values statements.

  • Chloe Montero

If I could give 10 stars out of 5, I would! The BEST HOSPITAL in Toronto. Their staff, Doctors, Nurses are all knowledgeable. Very well trained and always makes sure you have been properly diagnosed before you leave. My family and I have been to the ER a couple of times and we always go home very satisfied by the care and treatment they give. There was a time we went first to a different hospital, they misdiagnosed it and when we went to sunnybrook, 3 specialists came to look at a rare condition and they were able to diagnose it right away and got it treated. Definitely worthy of being the Trauma Centre in Toronto. Research does go a long way. Keep up the good work!!!

  • mahsa moradi

Waiting time in emergency room is not just long, it's tooooooooo long!!! We went there for a superficial big wound on my husband's hand cause we were worried about the infection. It took us 2 hours to pass first two steps of triage and registration. After getting into ER (And I still cannot understand why for a simple wound we have to go to ER!) and waiting for one more hour, we noticed that the waiting time is around 9.5 hours!!!! God helps us if we had serious problems! We could easily die while waiting for a doctor to see us. Luckily my husband was already vaccinated for tetanus; so we decided to take care of his hand at home and not waiting for 9.5 more hours!

  • Jenna Murphy

I had my son here. The birthing department was absolutely incredible! The drs and nurses i had were a dream... After having my son however the nightmare began. It became the most traumatic experiences ive ever had in my life. The very people who were to help him made him more sick!!! The NICU nurses where feeding him expired formula and they couldnt figure out why he wasnt keeping it down? I voiced my concerns and throughts only to be met with comments that i basically didnt know what i was talking about. Thankfully we got to go to Owen Sound NICU where my son was PROPERLY taken care of and thrived! These "world class" hospitals arent always what they seem to be.

  • farid hosseini

Not a good experience. Everything takes forever in emergency room. Even they don't have any estimate for a regular item like x-Ray. They say 60 min and over 2 hrs later we are still waiting while my dad is being tortured by impossible-to-sleep beds in here. That's after spending almost 7 hours for the doctor to show up. Please note that the emergency room is not busy at all, as you can see in the picture. I wonder how long would it take if it was a busy night. I would go to North York General instead in which I had a better experience. My dad had donated Sunny Broke for years and had some sympathy.. That's why we came here. What a mistake!

  • Warren Hiltz

Sunnybrook is extremely busy even when it doesn't look it because only the most seriously injured are brought here. So sometimes it seems slow and a procedure might get pushed back because someone more critically injured has arrived. That being said, the staff are absolutely world class, top notch. They're sometimes frustrated too that they don't have unlimited resources but boy are they doing their best! I wasn't an easy patient but I never felt mistreated and many things I thought would be agonizing they took the time to make very gentle. Everyone in emergency, surgery, recovery and C5 has my thanks and love!

  • Hulya Sagay

Unfortunately, I had a bad experience at Sunnybrook Health Sciences in my career today. I am a community language interpreter. I had an assignment with Dr.Paul Marks at Room 301 and a patient. Dr. Marks was too aggressive and rude to me and to the patient, although I and the patient used very respectful language to him. At the end of the assessment Doc.asked for the volunteer survey to the patient if he was treated good in his clinic and the patient in fear chose “yes” answers. The hospital management should take serious this unprofessional behaviour, people go to hospitals to find wellness and treatment .

  • Laura Aly Moya

If I could put zero stars I would. Its dirty, the staff are rude. They don’t have any social skills, or empathy what-so-ever. I know its a tough job I understand, but if you’re treated with kindness at least give that same treatment back. Even when asked to specifically look into something, “it’s not something that they think needs to be looked at”. Or when telling the cleaner that the bathroom floor was covered with water/pee (nicely in case she hadn’t noticed) they respond with “it doesn’t always have to be clean.” Like what…? Are you serious. Ontario healthcare just wants everyone to die.

  • Sehar Mehar

Why are children under 5 not allowed to visit! It’s really sad to see such discrimination. Especially for mothers who are to give birth and have a toddlers. These toddlers are born in Covid times and are not used to being dropped off wherever whenever mom is at the hospital. Also, people who have no family here what are we supposed to do? drop them off? Especially at night. Would have hoped the hospital was more understanding buts it’s sad to see we are still at this stage.result would be I would be without a support person so my child can be with their father. Makes me really upset and sad.

Visited Sunnybrook Hospital as a guest of a patient. Volunteer staff was very helpful and able to guide us to the correct wing of Hospital. There is an ATM on the 1st floor close to the information desk. There are hand sanitizing throughout the hospital and at the main entrance there is also a self dispensing mask station which was very convenient. Gift store had very friendly staff and there was such a wide variety of toys, puzzles, t-shirts, stationary, greeting cards and everything in between alongside some gadgets. The areas of the hospital visited were very well kept.

  • Ruby A

I find the staff and employees for the most part, are friendly and helpful. There were a few times when I was lost and asked random employees for guidance, and they went out of their way to help. The lab and diagnostics can be super busy, and for some reason, I always get a bruise with bloodwork, but not at other clinics. It would be great to see reasonable parking fees, but this seems to be the norm. There is a Second Cup inside the main entrance, to the right, and a Tim Horton’s (go straight pass the elevators, turn left, keep going).

  • Khodayar

Odette Cancer Centre - Doctors, staff, volunteers - kudos to you all because it is you that make the hospital so humane, kind and compassionate. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. However, parking at Sunnybrook is just a pipe dream for us seniors living on fixed income. 5-8 hours parking cost is our weekly grocery bill. My wife drops me off and then sits in the car for 5-8 hours in some by-lane. The hospital should really offer some serious senior rate for patients coming in for monthly therapy which lasts almost a day.

  • David King

When staffs and nurses are busy powertripping with each other using HR, caring only about their own 'feelings' & 'pay' not the patients or quality of service, without any accountability, do you not expect it to be a disaster? All the horrible, negative reviews you can see are the result of this kind of staffs working there. If the senior leaders managed them with an iron fist, all this bad service would go away. They need to put their patients firsts and hold lazy, problematic, power tripping nurses and staffs accountable!

  • sam rahimi

I experienced worse emergency service at this hospital today.... Got something in my eye and got there around noon.... After 9 hours time wasted there they took me to orange area section and waited there for another hour and finally decided to get the hell out of there. I do understand they get super busy sometimes but number of health care workers show they have lack .of management or supervisors. Now I'm in major Mackenzie hospital and less then 30 min rdy to be seen..shame on rude inexperience Sunnybrook members

Terrible hospital. I got admitted here with a black eye, and some brusing on my head, i had faith that they would take care of my belongings, but the next day, i seen that my timberland boot was missing, and my nike fanny pack. I called around everywhere, with all of them saying “its not here” like how is a hospital loosing peoples items? Whats even WORSE is that the nurse told me that its not the first time these things have happened. I completely lost trust in the whole system. This is ridiculous.

From the bottom of my heart, I would like to thank you for taking care of my wife, who was pregnant and recently gave birth to a baby girl. I especially want to thank Dr. Michelle (Nephrologist) and her team for taking care of my wife. My apologies for not mentioning all the names, but all of them (Nurses, Sonographers) were very very nice and cooperative. It is hard for me to put into words how grateful I am. It was the best experience we've ever had. Once again, thank you very much.

My recent emergency experience at Sunnybrook Hospital was a complete disaster. The staff's incompetence and negligence were shocking. The response time was incredibly slow, I was waiting for more than 10 hours to see a doctor and communication among the staff was nonexistent, and empathy was nowhere to be found. The outdated equipment and lack of post-treatment care were equally disappointing. I strongly urge everyone to avoid Sunnybrook Hospital for emergency care. Lives are at risk.

Best Hospital Toronto has- All hospitals are frequently busy especially in the emergency department. I was here back in February and the staff are excellent, from front desk to nurses to doctors. I arrived and the place was packed. I waited no longer then 35 mins and I was on my way in through Triage. It moved a lot quicker then I ever expected. Less then 3 hours I was outta there with a solution. Thank you Sunnybrook! Keep up the great work my go to Hospital

Good infrastructure and the staff does the best to manage the load. It always feels like they are in a rush so come prepared with your questions otherwise you'll leave almost as you came. Parking can be a challenge for one off visitors and expensive. If you are planning to come often within a year it's better to get a parking pass, it will be faster and less expensive as most appointments run over 2 hours. I like the food offering in the food court.

I've been having extreme pain in my lower thorasic spine at level T10 and around the front also. After 2 emergency runs at 2 other hospitals, I was taken to Sunnybrooke. They did an MRI and within 2 hours had me prepped for surg5ery to remove a tumor metastisizing around my spine. Yesterday I couldn't walk, today less than 16 hours after my operation, i could walk with a Walker and therapist helping me. They are extremely caring and helpful here.

Have been waiting for my appointment for almost a year. Was scheduled for Feb 7,2023 then they rescheduled me for March 28. Today, literally 2 min before my appointment they cancelled it without any explanations and scheduled me for the end of June! Very frustrated and disappointed! The women at the reception just left and said come next time! Avoid this place! Safe your time and health!

The front desk receptionist Mariem (ophthalmology department) is the most unpleasant and rude individual . I completely agree with the other patients opinion. Next time I will bring my concerns to the doctor (Kertes who is a perfect Dr.) or their management, so they can address the situation and ensure patients receive quality care. Remember, everyone deserves respect and consideration.

I find most of the staff are friendly and helpful. However, it's not sufficient for lots of patients. So, people should wait for more than usual. There is lots of parking lot with different charges rate. The inside of the building is clean. Also, lots of restaurant and shops are located there for different tastes. I believe that it is one of the best hospitals in Toronto.

Was transferred here for an emergency c section. Exceptional service the nurses and staff are beyond amazing. The NICU team is no doubt the best, they really cared for my preemie. Now that we have been transferred to level 2, the difference in care is night and day. We miss the care and love the Nicu provided for my daughter, wish we were still there.

Seriously understaffed, Wait times displayed and actual can be very different. You might end up waiting 10 +hours just to see physician. Sad to see one doctor running around to see all the patients in ER. Staff is really helpful. You might recover by yourself from during wait times. Looking at all this made me scared. Sometime free is not good at all.

Worst hospital I've been to in all of toronto. It's appalling. If you can go to a different one, you should. A lack of staff, lack of equipment, rooms (patients lining the hallways), and compassion was actually surreal. If you want medical attention, this isn't the place to get it. I've been to other hospitals where its not half as bad.

  • Alex Costa

The worst ER wait in my life! Arrived in the evening for URGENT care potentially life threatening, with only 3 people in the waiting room and still waiting there next day afternoon. I almost thought they were closed and pretending to be open. Come here only to die ? Actually come to think of it many people I know HAVE died here.

We have a family member that has been waiting for 3 years now for a surgery here. Their case is very severe and they can become crippled if they do not get their care soon. Whenever we try calling and leaving a message they claim they will get back, but never do, since I have been waiting 3 months now for a call back....

One of the leaders medical institute in the country. The biggest trauma hospital in Ontario. The biggest veteran hospital in Canada. The biggest psychiatry in the Canada. Situated in north York, easy access and a lot of parking spots. Reachable by buses 11, 11A and 124. All of them go through subway stations.

I had my baby delivered at Sunnybrook earlier this year and my experience was amazing. The OB and nurses that took care of me and my baby were kind and high quality professionals; and I felt I was in good hands during the entire time of the process. Strongly recommend the hospital for baby deliveries.

Went to Sunnybrook Hospital for a follow-up. - Covid Protocol well in place - Screening at the entrance (am already Fully Vaccinated) - Information desk, - Clean, well organized - Helpful ground Staff, - Respectable Knowledgeable Specialist - Long Laboratory wait (normal for Busy Big Hospital)

  • T RTT

Avoid this hospital at all cost. They are SO FXCKING SLOW. You will wait a MINIMUM of 10 hours. They will have you waiting while taking care of people who came after you. The doctors move around like they are just there for a paycheck. They don't really care. horrible experience.

  • Stacy Banana Grape

Simply careless beyond belief is a understatement. I felt like it was a prison. I will never come here again. Maybe it's just my experience but I had a few very uncomfortable issues to say the least. There was no compassion and too much concern with authority, instead of care.

  • Paul Uruski

Back in 2018 my dad was admitted to the Emergency department and diagnosed with a disease called PSP. My dad was put under the care of Dr. Sara Mitchell. The doctors and nurses in the Emergency depatment did exceptional work looking after my dad and properly disgnosing him.

  • Omid Azimi

If you need an emergency service, dont wast your time in this hospital. I wish I could give them 0 star. Line up is crazy and they dont even care if you are bleeding. Not even looking at your issues to see if it's urgent. Unbelievable worst emergency walk in ever

  • Sam Forouzi

3 visits in the past 3 months and so many issues every time. 1. NURSE LEFT me with list of patients and thier information in my room 2. Poor covid measures 3. Showed up 15 min prior to appointment and did get called in until 90 min after my appointment

  • Erin Higgins

My husband came into emerge with extreme pain. Turns out he has colon cancer. The only reason I didn’t give this horrible hospital one star is because the emerge team was incredible. Friendly and thorough and patient with the patients. Once

  • Sarah Norton

Had a catheter ablation done back in October done by Dr Sheldon Singh… he’s honestly one of the best doctors I’ve ever dealt with, and I now can live a better life because of him. He fixed my heart issue and I haven’t had any issues since.

  • anna Brdar

I have been here many times with an illness that has progressed. Emergency had 3 times more people than 5 months ago last night and people lined up in beds through corridors. The staff was amazing and thorough. If you come to any Emergency

  • a Bee

The best trauma centre in Toronto. This is a teaching hospital as well. Thank you to all Doctors/ Surgeons, nurses (Sylvia and Patience) psws (MJ) staff, volunteers, and students, for everything you do and continue to do for patients with

  • Hlib Antonenko

Great hospital, the doctor and nurses were really friendly. The most negative reviews here are about the wait time. But this is normal existence in all countries and all hospitals. Honestly I am happy that this hospital located in my area.

  • Samantha Banducci

The Triage nurse who helped my husband was outstanding. Our family doctor has been ignoring my husband's symptoms for a year so we went to Sunnybrook emerge. RN Paul T was compassionate, empathetic, knowledge and an all around great human

  • Jolina Batongbakal

Disappointed how ER staffs treated their patients. The worst thing I had experienced was year 2019 when 2 resident doctors laughed about my situation. I wasnt able to react quickly due to disbelief. We, patients, need respect as well.

  • Ansar Ahmed

This review is specifically for Dr. Selby of Palliative Care. Paradoxically, she works in a center where compassion and kindness is not an option; she has clearly demonstrated exactly the opposite. In my own observation, she lacks

  • Jessica Jeh

I had a terrible service, more than 10 hours of waiting, 1 doctor to see everyone and I had never had an experience as bad as public health in Canada, not even in poor countries the service is too bad like this So terrible

  • Collette Eden

Pregnant with Influenza, my daughter as well. It really took 5 hrs to have then give her basic Tylenol. It’s impossible to recall a time where any ER wait resulted in care that actually helped. Filthy and dated as well.

  • Speed Life

Excellent facility with great staff. Advance medicine practice act as teaching hospital for new doctor. Can't say enough about the hospital as my family member was treated here. Keep up the good work

  • Maureen Flynn

Absolutely the most compassionate group of staff in the palliative care unit. They keep the patient as comfortable as possible and manage to allow the visitors a bit of space as needed. Thank you.

  • Amass

I went there last Saturday and the staff was extremely rude. Like I was bothering them by just being there. They made me wait for 4 hours just to tell me to take Tylenol.

  • lucy lucy

The kindess of the doctors, top tier. My mom wanted to birth her baby here very badly but instead went to cortelluci vaughan hospital which she regreted.

  • Creative Impulses Photography

You don't want to be here, but if you are here, it is the best place to be. The dental clinic is fantastic! 5 stars for Dr. Blanas, 5 stars for Melissa.
