To be honest St Stephens the church has its charm, but it's not really the church that I come to visit, time and time again. The Church sits within a memorial park here in Newtown.. It's actually the old cemetery that is the draw here. Look this is just off King St and very easy to get to, and I keep visiting for me it's a place that I can go on my own to just find quiet and contemplate, or a place off the hub hub trail where you can just rest and stop for a while. The entry into the churchyard and cemetery is inspiring, mainly because of this huge old tree on the right with massive tentacle roots and a huge canopy. Immediately when you see this sentinel you can feel the outside fade into the background. Looking past the giant tree is a meandering trail through grass and old, and somewhat crumbling gravestones. This is not a big cemetery but you feel peace, whiles you contemplatively meander or sit for a while, there are always locals in there.. With the odd pet.. Sit, read, stare, think, photograph, watch and breathe! It is one place that I also love taking friends who haven't been before, weather they bee Sydney spiders or visitors. I took a good friend who is Chinese, my phone died and asked if he could take a photo of grave... He wasn't comfortable out of respect for the dead. It's worth a look and the. You can sit in the park or better still have a bite on King St, the vibe is always great.

THIS IS NOT A REVIEW OF THE CHURCH SERVICE OR ITS ACTIVITIES. This is a review of the Church grounds. I hadn't visited here for almost 30 years, even though I live in the area. The grounds are magnificent. As soon a I entered the gates the Majestically Beautiful giant fig greeted me, as it had many times many years previously. It actually bought a tear to my eye, and many memories of days spent here walking my dogs and picnicking amongst the Tomb Stones with friends came flooding back. I was so pleased to see that the maintenance of the Tombs, grounds and the Church building itself was still be kept up. It's a wonderful piece of local history. It's a great place to stroll, sit and read, walk your dogs or take a bite and enjoy the green of the multitude of trees. I LOVE IT.

This church is so awesome, so welcoming, kind and friendly and informal. I have been going for 6 years and love it. It's a great place to experience the word of God and sing some amazing praise songs. The service starts at 10.45am or 6.30pm. The evening service is a younger crowd but all ages welcome. You can always get a hot cup of tea/coffee and some delicious eats.

Historic church surrounded by gravestones that date back 150 years. We enjoyed a remarkable service with a mixture of old and new songs. The sermon was just the right balance of scholarly and devotional. The members were super friendly. There is an ancient Morton Bay fig tree at the entrance which adds to an amazing atmosphere.

I take some children here for youth group as part of work in community services - have nothing but positive experiences dealing with the youth group leaders. I know the children are in a safe place where they will get to meet new friends and explore their faith.

The services are excellent and relevant. Very friendly congregation that makes you feel welcome. Coffee and lunch afterwards. One warning though, bring a jacket as the beautiful old sandstone church is freezing.

I especially love their WeBelong ministry for adults with disabilities. Great community of love based on the Bible's teaching about God, sin, and forgiveness.

Cute little church in Newtown, close for public transport, dropoffs or ubers, and near all amenities. Very near the city. Beautiful cemetery.

Church was closed when I was there in the grounds for a picnic. Had a look. Very dark and depressing on the outside.
