We went for brunch yesterday at Southdale. First time there. The decor is very nice. Clean and “informally classy”. A place in which you’d be comfortable. Smartly decorated. I guess, maybe I was expecting more of an older diner atmosphere, or something, from the name. The staff members were amazing, we were greeted and seated, then talked to by about 3 of the staff members during or time there. Not intrusive in the least, just friendly. I had iced tea, looked up, and there was a “refill” already on its way before I was finished, and served with a smile. The food was prepared quickly and served hot. A couple of minutes later, our sever checked that all was ok, I joked I just tried the toast so far, so in a few more moments she, in a playful way, “checked” again how I was doing with the main dish. Ok, now about the food. Very tasty! My wife had a club sandwich - real turkey- served with crisp (but not over done / greasy) hot French fries (of course I had to try some). I had the Mexican skillet - delicious. Mexican seasoned ground beef, scrambled eggs, sour cream and salsa served on a bed of what I’m assuming are “home made” pan fries. Mmmm mm. Think sort of like breakfast nachos if you’re into that kind of thing, and I am! The ground beef was nicely spiced and teamed with the salsa added a nice “pop”to the flavours of the egg and potatoes. It’s been said “you eat with your eyes first”, and on that note, everything was plated and presented in a pleasant way. We saw a few more dishes come from the kitchen destined for other tables, and each of those looked vey nice as well. I’d totally recommend this place. It seems to me that they take great pride in their business. We noted certificates in the entrance way that, to us anyway, prove that. The appearance, the staff, and the food all make this a worthwhile place for you to try. Enjoy!

My sister and law, myself and two nieces (one of whom is one and half and in a fairly bulky stroller still) went in, having looked at the takeout specials (between $8-$10) decided that it was just what we were looking for, a nice quiet place with decent priced food. Didn't take long for us to get in, but the hostess sat us at a very awkward table to maneuver, and then proceeded not to ask us if we needed a high chair, so my sister in law went and grabbed it, fine whatever. Then as she's moving it to the table, and I am helping my 5 yr old niece get into her spot (the stroller was in her way with no where else to put it) she asks if we needed the chair moved to put the high chair, (really there was no other place to put it so kind of a silly question). We sit down, take a look at the kids menu, decently priced, $6 for her drink, meal and a dessert. But then we start looking at our menu, and everything is rather expensive, I'm talking $14 + for most things. We ended up settling on a wrap each only to find out that for $12 it didn't even come with fries! We added on fries, which half a basket of normal fries is $4, and you barely get any at all. The waitress was rude, and always seemed to be rushing off (even though there was only us and another table which wasn't even hers) to do what seemed like talking with her coworkers instead of taking care of us. So in total, me, myself, and my nieces meal came to a shocking $50! Never going back.

Ordered for the first time from this place a skillet covered in hollandaise sauce. Sadly I could only look at it as they couldn't send me a plastic fork to eat it...or my carrot cake with. Often you get these things when you order and so I never bother looking for the place where I am to specify it. Unfortunately my work place does not have any cutlery. I hadn't had breakfast so I ended up eating it with my fingers which was quite messy, while hoping no customers saw me eating like a hangry wolf. There should really be at least 3 eggs in this skillet...it felt like mostly large diced potatoes and not much else. I had to ask for no tomatoes, but it's too bad there is no option to substitute something for something else. The restaurant kindly sent me a little container of caramel sauce that was quite sticky for my cake and fingers (no fork). Thanks for that. A customer caught me with caramel sauce on my face and fingers. Next time I will be sure to specifically request or beg for a plastic fork to eat the food I ordered. Not really worth the 27 bucks it costs to eat when you have to eat it in such a messy manner.

I’ll delete this review in a day or two as I don’t feel it fair to leave up. It’s strictly meant as feedback to the staff/owner. Food was disappointing and prices are extremely high for portion size. Fries are from frozen which right away tells me they don’t have very experienced chefs. Sandwhich was very bland and just one flavour as a whole. It was small and just kind of a soggy bland disappointing sandwich. It was almost $20 for a sandwich and fries and I left hungry. It was a grilled cheese with ham and 1000 island on it and the bread wasn’t at all crispy. Nothing at all stands out about this restaurant. Not fresh ingredients at all and the ingredients they did you weren’t at all prepared properly. Soggy greasy mess in my honest opinion not to even mention the fries from frozen. Fantastic service was a big plus. Very good service and that’s why I gave 2 stars instead of one

We stopped by and had lunch , restaurant wasn't too busy & waited a few minutes to get shown to a table. Our waitress was absolutely wonderful very attentive and pleasant. We had a crispy chicken sandwich which was very good and a very tasty homemade tomato soup. Also had a hot turkey sandwich , it was ok but it was all small really dark pieces of turkey and not that tasty but the gravy was good. I would recommend paying the extra for the white meat hopefully that would be tastier. Onion rings were awesome, french fries tasted like plain frozen french fries . We will definitely dine here again. Even though the hot turkey sandwich wasn't stellar I think they still deserve four stars as the rest of the food was good and the service was excellent.

My boyfriend and I went to Southdale Village Family Restaurant for dinner on Saturday night since we were in the area and wanted to try it out. We try to go out to dinner a couple times a month for date night so we've been to a few lately. By far this was the best service and best meal we've had in a long time! The waitress, Dani, was amazing. Always checked on us, we never had to ask for her. It was great! And the food was spectacular! We both had the hot turkey sandwich which came with three sides. It was so delicious! And a lot of food. We would go back here in a heartbeat (and we probably will sooner rather than later) Great job by this small family restaurant!

While visiting Winnipeg, the Canadian Mint was one if our must see locations. Looking for a restaurant after our tour, we discovered this little gem. Although it was very busy over lunch, the staff appeared to be a well oiled machine. From start to finish, we were very impressed with this restaurant. Judging by their clientele, they must have a lot of repeat customers. Another positive sign of a great place to eat.

I thought I found a cute little hole in the wall, but I was wrong. It took 10 minutes to be acknowledged in the restaurant. I ordered a stirfry and had to wait for 45 minutes for food. Then when the dish arrived it was soggy and the chicken was cold. I sent it back (because it was $20!) And though the waitress was very nice and polite, I could hear the chef yelling about the returned dish from the kitchen. A discussion ensued for 5-10 minutes from the kitchen (intermittent with yelling) of which I could hear every word. Very rude and unprofessional. Needless to say, I will not go back.

Nice little spot! Homemade food! Lots of old people! Lots of repeat customers! Kinda has a mums kitchen feel! They give my 2 small children a free desert 1 time at closing time! My only complaints, keep the water or coffee topped up, ensure the correct amount of knifes & folks are on the table and you can here every word the staff say (I stood up to take off my jacket and assist my 5 years old. I over heard the staff watch them I think they are going to get up too leave. We had not had anything to eat at this point and had ordered).

I have to say, we LOVE this restaurant! We’ve been there a couple times now, and the experience was excellent both times. The waitresses are fantastic, and the food is good - reminds me a lot of the old restaurants in the Zellers stores. This evening I had their fried chicken and OMG it’s the best fried chicken I’ve had in YEARS. Crispy, juicy and so flavourful!! Candace was our waitress and she was great. I highly recommend you try this place out!

The service side of my visit was hands down the best part of it...from anywhere in canada, the united states and Mexico. ..i too am a server in mexico so I was very impressed with the friendly and fast service with a smile....very personal and family feel...felt very welcome....food was very good and came out quicker than most fast food joints even though it was at sunday breakfast rush...even the owner is very friendly and hands on...you get more than what you pay for...highly recommended...

  • Rena Mathieson

Loved this little restaurant! *Waitress/server, Ashley: Lovely young lady. Was attentive, friendly and efficient! *Food: everyone was happy with their meals! Everything was cooked perfectly! Even the Clubhouse had real turkey slices on it! *Value: Great bang for your buck! Good sized portions for a reasonable price! *Overall: Will be back. Very good experience here (we went around 11am on a Sunday). Great breakfast spot (the cook knows what he or she is doing). (photo is missing the toast)

  • Todd Doran

Ordered takeout , didn’t get what ordered ! Onion rings were under cooked and soggy! High prices for not that big of portions ! $19 for hot turkey , $9 for Poutine , the fries were under cooked , and soggy. And maple bacon on it too. Not a fan of male bacon! Should be stated that it is maple bacon! And only live two blocks away, so not from long drive home , and had to wait for food so food did not sit there! Just poor quality! Sorry but would not recommend to friends!

  • Lorrie Noonan

I love this restaurant. We have always had excellent service with a smile and amazing food, until today. All over a coffee and who should drink it according to their rules. I left, disappointed, confused, and hungry. I have told so many of my friends about this place. I truly hope they have a better experience than we did. We will go again and hope that the waitress is someone other than the one we had today. PS. I would have ordered water, not coffee.

  • Tim Happychuk

Prices for portion and quality are a little over the top (my tiny $15 cheeseburger is one of a few obvious profit centers for the meager accompaniments). Staff work under a strange seniority system that often have you surrounded by people that can only answer "I can't help you, I'm not a server" to any request... and given the missing utensils, order items, empty cups and issues there seemed to be a lot of unanswered requests).

  • Danica Fran

Ordered take out via Skip and when the order showed up it was missing the Au Jus for the Beef Dip sandwich and dressing for the toss salad. Called to ask the manager what we should do about it and the Owner claimed he packed the order himself and that we were lying. All we wanted was the Au Jus or a phone number to call with skip the dishes. The owner was very rude and we will not be ordering here again.

Ok service, quality simple food, prices haven't risen much since my last visit a couple years ago. Seniors menu keeps things affordable for smaller appetites. Located in a strip mall which is part of a larger shopping area with big anchor stores close by. I'd give it four stars if one of our servers was a bit grumpy, maybe a bad day?

  • Mark Tipton-Marshall

My order was inncorrect and when I asked about the waitress inquired to the kitchen staff. From our table all the conversation could be heard. The cook said that what I had ordered and took it upon herself to change my order without even giving me the option to make a different choice. Her banter in the back was rude and condcending.

  • Kristopher Driver

Like the old time diners where the staff seem to know all of the customers. New customers are treated like old friends. The prices are perfectly reasonable and the breakfast / lunch is heartily on point. Add garlic and onions to the fried potatoes if you get the breakfast special - my off-menu favorite. Customer for over 10 years.

  • Rob York

A very quaint spot. 1st time we had brekky here. Service was very fast and efficient. Decor is nice and family friendly establishment. Has been around for quite a few years (20+) and staff are very professional and quick. Orders taken and food arrived quickly. Prices were affordable and acceptable. We will return at another date.

  • Richard Bohemier

We came for eggs Benedict, was really good, fast, fresh and friendly stams members, was good to see a family restaurant busy, even at 2pm. This will most likely be my breakfast spot from now on 100% Also, was nicely kept and clean! Coffee was fresh and always topped up quick!

A simple, family-run restaurant that offers Canadian and Greek food that is of excellent quality. The prices are also very, very reasonable. The staff are also friendly and very good at answering questions about menu items. Despite the strip-mall location that may reduce the appeal of the restaurant, I would highly recommend it!

  • Владимир Капустинский

First impression was good, but Service was uninviting, when our food was served it was boxed mashed potatoes, frozen peas and carrots, burnt garlic toast loaded with melted cheese, soggy lettuce in my Greek salad. I highly recommend just staying home and preparing your own food. They also over charge! Do not waste your money.

This restaurant has amazing food and service staff. We were not paying attention to the closing time, arrived 15 minutes before close and they looked after us like it was not an issue unlike other establishments. I definately recommend this place for the food, so delicious. Mashed potatoes here the best I have ever had.

  • Teresa Thiessen

I use to really like this restaurant until they started changing 7.50 to have coffee in the restaurant if you don't order a meal. There food is good. But in the middle of the day you would like to go out with a friend for just coffee. Because of that charge I will not be going back there for coffee, or meals.

  • Paul Turenne

I love coming here with my partner, she always looks forward to our Sunday afternoon lunches. The staff is great and friendly and the food is delicious and well priced. My mother used to come here years ago with her friends and also loved coming to this fine restaurant. I can hardly wait to visit again soon

  • J W (SiDroid)

Good price, good portion sizes. Eggs done exactly how requested. Hasbrowns were nicely crispy but not overdone. Unfortunately, our waitress did not come around to refill our coffee until well after we had all finished eating and were ready to leave. Otherwise good service, and reasonable food for the price.

  • Ben Jiménez

For what it's worth, we went here during peak hours on a Friday, this place gets full fast. The demographics of this place tends towards the grey hair, millenials be warned. The menu is an homage to the classics, no nouveau fusion anything. Staff are friendly and as prompt as the hectic rush would allow.

  • Christina Courcelles

We had nice memories of this place so we went there for brunch today. No one smiles here aka the waitresses. When we walked in we were greeted by a dismal face. The breakfast was honestly not very good, not what we remembered. I won’t go into detail, but we should have gone elsewhere that’s for sure.

Honestly one of the best places in the city I'm so blessed that they are so close to home . I've never had a bad meal here.. I've been slowly making my way through the menu and enjoyed EVERY thing. They are family owned and home made everything. The recipes truely have been perfected

  • The Mahoosky

Terribe. My "vegetables" were the diced frozen peas, corn, carrot mix you can buy at any grocery store, soggy and tasteless. For $19.00 I got one small piece of veal, the brutal veggies, and the smallest piece of garlic bread on earth... no pride in their food. Huge disappointment.

Great restaurant. Friendly and prompt service. The best clubhouse sandwich in Winnipeg . They use real turkey !!! Not that fake deli turkey . Great homemade soups as well

Great eats, particularly for Sunday morning breakie with friends....but everyone knows how good it is, so you need to beat the church crowd if you want to avoid a wait.

  • Christopher Graeb

Awesome food! Great friendly service. Wasn't too annoying or not around enough. Was there for breakfast and was in an out in 20 minutes and they had a full restaurant.

Some of the best water I've ever drank from a restaurant. Food is mediocre if not worse.
