I had a really good experience buying a black bear hamster at PaulMac’s pets in Oakville this past weekend. I have a lot of experience raising hamsters and wanted to adopt another one. That day, I went to three pet smart locations and all were sold out of hamsters. This was super disheartening and it’s difficult finding another reputable pet store that sells and has quality exotic pets. I had never heard of PaulMac’s pets but after a google search we found out that they sell a wide variety of pets. I called their Oakville location, and the girl on the phone was really kind. She told me they had a few Syrian hamsters and some unique breeds like a black bear hamster. If you’re a hamster person, you’d know that black bear hamsters aren’t readily available at pet smart stores. I purchased my hamster for $15.99 which is decently priced! The store is very well kept and clean. You could tell that all their small animals and fish are cared for. The girl that helped me select my hamster was very kind and cared for my little buddy as she prepped the carry out box. The only minor thing was that I was told my hamster is 6 weeks old but he is extremely small and more like 3-4 weeks old. I also wasn’t told whether the hamster was a boy or girl...but I figured it out lol!! No complaints though! I am so grateful that PaulMac’s exists and that they care for their animals. I’d definitely recommend this pet store over pet smart any day! Also they sell performatrin ultra dog food which is a Canadian made kibble my dog exclusively eats which was a bonus! EDIT: I ended up calling the store asking if the hamster I bought was a boy or girl. They said it was a boy for sure. I was still not convinced and turns out my hamster went into heat and is a girl. The fact that they had a girl hamster among three boy hamsters is not good. I just wish they actually knew was the hamsters sex was before purchasing.

Really upset about what I saw today. They had 3 rabbits in an x-pen in the store today and it truely showed that they do no real research in the animals they sell. Let's begin talking about what's wrong with their set up. First, they had no litter box, second they gave a towel that was clearly not rabbit safe and would cause blockages if ingested. There was no water dish for them to drink out of. They were over feeding these 3 month old rabbits pellets which rabbits at that age should be given pellets are treats because they are processed, and contain added minerals and vitamins. They had the tiniest amount of hay in 2 hay wheel things where the bars are so tiny. I also noticed that hay it was only Timothy and if you know anything about baby rabbit care to would know they need a 50/50 mix of alfalfa until the age of 5 months. Last there was no enrichment. No toys, nothing. I feel bad for the 3 month old lion head and 2 short hairs in that x-pen. When I spoke to the worker cleaning aquariums just next to the pen, it quickly became clear that she literally knew nothing about rabbit care. I'm literally so disappointed, how can the place selling these animals know nothing about their care. It's honestly appalling.

A lovely location with helpful and friendly staff. I’m always greeted by a smiling face when I walk in, and the staff are always readily available to help. The ladies at the cash always ask me about my pets and always ask me if they liked the last toys I purchased for them. I believe the manager especially put forth her best effort and makes all the shoppers feel super welcome. They have a great selection of small pet toys that I can’t find anywhere else for my rabbits. They carry toys, especially the oxbow enriched life brand, that no other pet stores around have. Their store is well organized, easy to navigate even with covid arrows. Their live animals also live in excellent conditions, I’ve never seen a bunny without the hay they need or a bird without tons of toys.

If you're looking for good quality pet supplies, this is the place. Service is iffy though. Most of the employees are very knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. But it's hit and miss. Unfortunately, when you get a less helpful employee, it can be unpleasant enough to make you not want to return. When I come to a pet store with questions, I expect the questions (and my business) to be welcomed. So, when I am ignored, treated coldy, and made to feel like I'm a nuisance by employees who clearly don't enjoy working with the public, I know it's time to go out of my way to make my purchases at the Burlington Oliver Pets instead of Oakville. You need to learn some basic Customer Service skills, Little Redheaded Girl.

My family and I have had a great experience shopping at this location. The staff are friendly and customer service oriented. There's one particular staff member who really shines. Her name is Selena. Her love of animals is just so genuine. She has been helping us over the past month or so, as we wanted to adopt a rabbit. Selena put us on a waiting list, and kept us in the loop through the entire process. Today we finally took our little rabbit home. And Selena was there, with her great attitude and professionalism, taking great care of us. Thank you Selena, you're a Star!

Great place! We bought our budgies here along with the cage and accessories. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The place was very well kept, very clean, so we knew the animals were all treated well. The staff knew a lot about what was needed to take care of the budgies and we were very pleased with the service. They had everything you need in stock which was really nice. We didn't have to wait for anything to come in. The budgies are doing well today so we are glad we found a good place to purchase them from. Thank you!

Very impressed with this store! The staff were extremely knowledgeable and friendly, making sure my mom and myself knew how to care for the little budgie we were about to bring home. it also melted my heart to see the care and gentleness shown to the pets there when cleaning and giving them food - I can't say that I ever heard staff at other pet stores taking the time to talk to the pets during their tasks, so you know that the staff really love what they are doing here. I will definitely be back!

Absolutely delightful experience at this pet store! The staff, though I didn't catch their name, was incredibly pleasant and made my day. Their kindness and helpfulness truly stood out. They helped me in choosing vitamins for my chihuahua, The entire staff is not only incredibly kind but also very knowledgeable and passionate about their work. It's evident that they love what they do, and their expertise shines through. Thank you for the excellent service!

April 11 7:04 pm Walk in , not greeted by 3 girls at front desk. Go to pay, girl says she has no change. Goes to other register , lots of cash and change from what I can see. Gives me my change, I say thank you and bye, no response . I say it again no response . If your paying 3 girls to sit behind cash , make sure it’s 3 girls that can communicate with customer and can say hi and bye. My 3 year old has better manners then the girls working here .

The store is nice and has good variety. only downside is pricing that I do not agree with ($9 for 2oz of gecko food, dog toy/treat prices are pretty crazy too). and when I bought 100 mealworms a lot of them had already molted to their next stage, which was disappointing. they were only $4 though, but still... anyway, pet valu always has what I need.

Happy with the stock at this store. They have a dog wash area which is just superb. It's pretty big with dryer, towel and grooming brushes. Proper washing area etc. Other than that they carry most common pet products, from food to toys, you can find them all here. Great store for pet supplies. Don't forget to sign up for pet value membership

We were in the store for over 10 minutes before we were approached. The young lady that did approach us was very helpful and knowledgeable. She made us feel better about our new tank and how to look after it. She was very friendly. Had we not waited so long to be helped (store was dead), they would have recieved a five!! …

My favourite Oakville location. Been going since it was two pets stores ago, before Paul Mac's (I think it was called Oliver's lol). Great location, great staff, good variety of stock but since they're popular they do run out quickly! But I can always trust the staff knows their products and puts things on hold for me!

Our dog rolled in something smelly and we needed an emergency dog wash. The staff was really friendly, accommodating and helpful. Even gave our dogs some treats to lure him in. As for the store, they have a great selection and the staff are all very knowledgeable! Thank you for helping us today and every other day!

I have not tried this place, but its value is 5 stars for its system and improvement. I hope to visit it, but unfortunately, due to these circumstances in which we are going through Yemen, I have not been able to lose it. Every person who lives in Canada and did not visit this place

Used the self serve dog washing station. It worked really well and was reasonably priced. Very convenient for us during the winter. We have a big dog (100lbs) and spent $30 to wash and dry her. Very nice to have all the supplies provided for you... Just bring your pup!

As far as pet stores go, this Paul Mac location is a good spot. Since converting to the Paul Mac brand, pretty much everything about this shop has improved. Friendly, knowledgeable staff and a good selection of merchandise for a smaller size pet store.

Victoria spent over an hour answering every question my daughter had about the whole live pet section. Awesome customer service experience. A note to manager to not sell hummingbird feed that's purely colored sucralose...please.. it's toxic to them.

Very helpful staff. Went in for a particular product, of which they had no stock; the staff called a nearby petstore (same family, but different brand) and discovered they had the product. Kudos for wanting to get the customer what they want.

one of the few places that has live food for reptiles! we've been loyal to this location for abt a decade so definetely a good place to go. with recent construction you can watch dogs being washed and look at tons of cool pets to adopt!

The staff are great and there is great selection, however, the cans of cat food that I buy are more expensive here than they are at pet smart. They charge 2.19$ at this location whereas pet smart charges 1.99$ for the same can.

I come to this store at least twice a week to get crickets for my gecko. I also get everything I need for our dog, cats and guinea pigs. The staff are always friendly and everything is reasonably priced.

Staff very helpful and knowledgeable. Easily the best place for bettas. Have been disappointed twice in the past by Pet Smart, that's what I get for hitting the Walmart of pet stores.
