It wasn't horrible like some others have mentioned....but it wasn't fantastic like how others have mentioned either. I ordered their Thali special to get a feel for as many items on their menu as I could. You get your choice of one meat curry and two vegetable curries. I ordered butter chicken and mattar paneer - I got butter chicken, mattar paneer, and chick pea curry. When I opened my package the lid was coated in oil where the curry had been. Not a deal breaker, but it was very noticeable. Maybe the restaurant decided to take some reviews into consideration saying the butter chicken was too sweet - I found it was actually rather sour. Not horrible...but I didn't find it to be anything spectacular, either. The mattar paneer tasted alright - I will say that there was a good level of spice on the curries as a whole. That being said, I noticed I only got a few small pieces of paneer in my portion - and I kid you not, one of the pieces of paneer was tinged green...but only along two sides of the little cube. Certain foods will change colour depending on the acidity of the dish and like I said the curries were a little sour...but the fact that it was only green on two sides made me nervous . I threw caution to the wind and ate it anyway. 16 hours late, I'm still healthy. I wasn't a fan of the chickpea curry (I didn't order it in the first place) and I noticed that there were some peas at the bottom of the portion. The way they had packaged my dish, it was impossible that these peas had slid over from the mattar paneer. I found myself wondering what they were doing there - why were there parts of another dish in this curry? Maybe they used the same serving utensils without rinsing? Not a good sign. The rice...was rice. They included some pickle (I hate this stuff, but it was a nice gesture on their part). I saw that they honoured my request and gave me my chosen dessert (yay!). That being said, the barfi was mediocre. It wasn't bad, but it was the sort of dessert you only eat because it's there....not because you particularly like it. The dish came with a naan, and I'm sorry to say that I agree that it was identical to the texture and taste of many store-bought naan. I've had hand made naan before (made right in front of my eyes), and the difference is night and day. That doesn't mean it was bad....but it was also rather greasy. Now, while what the others reviewers say about the naan being store bought may be true but they are NOT coated in oil. You can tell it's butter because if it had been oil, the naan would be soaked through. Say what you want about the naan, but the greasiness was only skin-deep. That being said, I get why others complained...a greasy naan to eat greasy curries (literally pools of oil in the curries where the curry was a little lower)? I personally didn't mind it too much, but I can easily see how this might turn off others. At the end of the day, I think if you go into this without any expectations you won't be too offended by their offerings. Is it spectacular value? Not in my opinion. For just a few dollars more you can get some truly amazing stuff from other restaurants. This restaurant may have the lowest price, but that's not the same thing as value. Is it horrible? Not in my opinion. I've definitely had worse. The spices they use are very pronounced and in a lot of ways that makes these dishes more authentic than what some other restaurants offer. Everyone has their own tastes and opinions, but I would not say this is the best butter chicken in town. They did a better job on the spices than a lot of other restaurants do, but the acidity in the spices caused the curry to separate. They either need to add more cream, ground almonds, or use less spices. I hope someone finds this helpful - I know I was pretty confused reading the other reviews, as most people either seemed to absolutely love it or absolutely hate it.

My first time at this restaurant I have been driving by for so many years I decided to go in today and try some butter chicken, I also ordered matar paneer and some garlic Naan. I have been to at least 5 Indian restaurants in ottawa, every restaurant has a slightly different flavor on there food Each one has a different take on there Naan bread, but all were very good, so was the butter chicken The butter chicken at Indian express was excellent I noticed that the chicken was very tender. all the other restaurants I have been to the chicken was dry. The Naan bread was very good, nice and fresh loved it, no complaints here. The matar paneer was also fresh and flavourful, the rice was also fresh. Indian express also makes fresh deserts on site I tried a square with Mango and coconut WOW WHAT FLAVOR, They also had a gluten free chickpea flour ball with Cashews WOW the flavours just keep on coming Had to get an assortment of desserts oh so good After one bite you will know what I mean. Well I have no complaints on the food at Indian Express, service was good, very happy will be back.

Though this place has great reviews and ratings, our experience with this place was beyond disappointing. First of all, nowhere it is mentioned that they only offer takeout and limited availability of the items on the menu. Next, they were rude and complained about having too much orders, having just 6 burners (like we care) and we need to make decisions in a minute. After complaining about the mode of payment (debit) they were stingy about providing us with plates and cutlery for having the food. We were on a trip to Ottawa from Montreal and wanted to have some decent hot Indian food. We ordered vegetable Biryani and "the voted best" butter chicken. Though the quantity was pretty good, the quality was categorically bad. The Biryani tasted too much of turmeric and the butter chicken was pretty much tasteless. I would give one stars only for the quantity of the food and given the fact that it was piping hot. It was a relief to have hot food on a rainy cold day, but it will be a blasphemy to call this food decent or Indian cuisine. I would NOT recommend this place.

So I came to Ottawa with my friends for long weekend... we didn’t know that most of the restaurants are going to be closed... So we decided to look for open restaurants randomly on google and found this restaurant. We were very impressed by the reviews and rating and decided to come to this restaurant. We ordered shahi paneer and chicken curry with fresh naan. But I was So disappointed by tasting the naan that wasn’t fresh at all, they actually tasted like frozen naan we get from grocery stores. So we decided to send the next batch back and order fresh chapatti instead. Again we had to face disappointment the chapattis were tasting sour like they were made from rotten flour. Lets talk bout their curries now, Shahi paneer was alright but when we tasted chicken curry it tasted like it was leftover from few days. Overall If I could give zero star to this restaurant I would. The food is ridiculously overpriced for that low quality. I usually dont do reviews but I just dont want somebody else to have this poor experience with food like that.

Indian Express used to be my favorite place in town for the last 12 years. However, I recently visited after a long pause and because I wanted to support small businesses in town during the COVID-19 pandemic but I was very disappointed, and surprised about the prices. I am an excellent cook and used to love having pick up from this place because it was fantastic, fresh and delicious. Specially their butter chicken which is indeed the best in town. The food we recently ordered was almost like it was frozen and then warmed up to serve. The mixed vegetables were cold and soggy, Dhal Malkhani tasteless, and the Aloo Ghobi cold, mushy and no flavor. I seriously hope this was a fluke and the food continues to be what it was. Would I recommend it right now? Not sure. Would I go back? Yes, as long as their flavors and freshness are back to what it was. I want to give them the benefit of the doubt and because the owners are wonderful and charitable people. We shall see.

I was skeptical before ordering here as there were lot of negative reviews about their customer service but I still ordered anyway. Well, guess what, it turned out to be true. When I called to check if they were open to take orders , they said they were too busy to answer queries. The man in the restaurant was super rude and he treated us like we were getting stuff for free. About the food, it wasn't that great- very mediocre and the quantity was also not good as mentioned in the other reviews. I have never seen any restaurant replying so unapologetically to the reviews here! Pathetic. Edit (after the response from the owner): Instead of giving unsolicited advice and talking about totally unrelated scenarios, start working on your people skills. This review was in respect to my personal experience, I can't talk about how lucky others were when they chose to buy food from you. Don't quote Bhagavat Gita on others when you clearly don't follow any of it.

Visited this place to get Indian sweets as takeaway. The jalebi (orange spirals) was awfully STALE. It was so soft it bent like play dough (it should be crispy) and smelled of old oil. I was extremely disappointed that they sold it to a family with small kids. It went straight to the trash!! Also bought some other sweetmeats.. some were soft and fresh and tasted good, others were not even cutting with a knife and were again too old for consumption. Please remove items that have passed their shelf life. I drove a distance after reading the reviews. I waited a long time while three pick-up orders were processed so overall not a great experience. I even told them to put in two pieces per sweet and came home to see that they had put in whatever amount and charged me so much for the extra weight. It was crowded and they made use of the situation by selling me loaded boxes of stale sweets. Be vigilant and taste before buying for sure! I won't be returning!

I kept an open mind to the food because their seems to be a decent amount of reviews that didn’t like what they got. While I’m not totally with people saying it’s basically horrible, it’s also not the best. I will say I’ve had much better Indian food & at a lower price in the city for the same amount of food I got which was a chicken biryani, plain nan & mango lassi. The chicken biryani lacked in flavor a little, didn’t really have much chicken pieces & biryani seemed almost “chalk” like which I’ve never experienced before. For $2 tho I mean I guess you can’t go wrong with just a plain nan but it seemed rather small compared to other places I’ve eaten at and paid only $3.50 for plain nan but it was much bigger then this place. In all I would say keep an open mind & judge for yourself, I just happened to be in the area and wanted to try it out. Will I go again… honestly probably not. Would I recommend it, that’s still a question.

I’ve lived in West Wellington for over 14 years. Looking back on those years, I witnessed a neighbourhood transforming. One constant was Indian Express Food and Sweets. I remember frequenting the small takeout place many years ago and many times. To this day, I still visit on a regular basis. So much so, that I am recognized by my consistent order (butter chicken, chickpea curry, fish pakoras, and rice). Every so often, I may add paneer and when I am feeling under the weather - perhaps some vindaloo. Indian Express continues to be part of my neighbourhood and lifestyle tradition for many years. The food is wonderful. The portions are great. The service personal and attentive. When visitors come in from town, I’ll invite them to join me (I usually treat) for dinner. We are never disappointed. If you are looking for wonderful Indian food, do stop here! Don’t forget a mango lassi!

Awful experience. Went to share a meal with a friend and the owner started yelling and saying he didn’t allow sharing orders, and he couldn’t run a business if people ordered one meal to share. Slammed doors and was yelling , and ignored us when we went to pay. Food was average at best. Honestly avoid this place at all costs as the owner is rude, and no matter how food the could have been, would not make up for or excuse the awful treatment. Edit: while I understand the reply, it in no way warranted the treatment we received or was it appropriate. After yelling at us , telling us we were putting him out of business, slamming doors, and continuing to yell from inside. He refused to come out, and when we went to pay he talked on the phone and ignored us completely. Trashy and borderline abuse. Also we went after 7 pm so ....

I was really disappointed in the food quality especially considering all the positive reviews and the fact that this place came recommended by a friend. My partner and I both found that the food just generally lacked flavour. And a lot of it seemed like it was coming from frozen or generally bulk purchased foods. The veggies in the mixed vegetable curry had the texture and feeling of frozen vegetable medley. The naan also seemed comparable to the kind you can just buy frozen from the grocery store. We won't be ordering from here again, and I suggest that for the price difference it's far better to go somewhere a little more expensive but far more enjoyable. Host India is the restaurant that I recommend most from my experience with Indian cuisine in Ottawa.

  • varun sharma

Please don’t visit this place! We went to this garbage place and the owner overcharged us. We went back and asked us for a refund and the owner gave us the money back and banged the takeout window on our face. When we tried to talk to the owner about his behaviour, he literally slapped my friend. Yes, it happened. We called 911 and the cops were supportive, they took him in custody and made sure he was charged. People like these are poison to our society. This was my new year’s first food take out experience in Ottawa. A humble appeal to everyone, please avoid dealing with this place. Let’s show him that without respecting the customers, he cannot run this place.

I was there yesterday. Ordered Jalebis that smelt like oil when tasted. The naan breads seemed store bought for the size. Infact after looking at some of your pictures the naan breads in the pictures seem different than the ones I ordered. Not impressed as this was my first time there. I speak the honest truth. If I feel something was wrong then I am going to say that, I am a restaurant manager as well and I don't call those naans. As an owner you are going to defend your business. Anyways that is how I feel and I was not happy with the food. Also letting people taste in a pandemic does not give me a good feeling.

First of all, this city has some amazing places to get food... This is not one of them. Butter chicken is extremely boring and the sauce is very one dimensional. Also, zero garnish anywhere. The part that really upset me was the naan quality. Somewhere like this should be making naan fresh, the one they had was horrible. It was equal quality to the grocery store. Finally, I purchased my order through Uber and it showed a buy one get one free and I certainly didn't get anything for free. Disappointed

Absolutely terrible. I’ve had Indian food from dozens of restaurants around the world and this is hands-down the worst Indian food I’ve tasted. Ordered the Chana masala and Shahi paneer. The Chana masala was grainy and the lacked all flavour other than an overwhelming amount of salt. The shahi paneer was also overwhelmingly flavourless and tasted like someone sprinkled turmeric into a bowl of heavy cream - Indian “express”, indeed. We did not finish the food on our plates, threw the leftovers out, and ordered a replacement dinner elsewhere.

This place was recommended by an uber driver a few weeks ago. I went for the first time we ordered samosas and vegetable pakoras for appetizers the portion size were more than generous for 2 people probably enough to share with 4 people my partner and I decided to share a main course of Beef Vindaloo which was a generous portion for 2 people it was spicy but not too spicy and very tasty with a side of garlic naan bread. Had a nice atmosphere but it's not wheel chair friendly for those who may want to try they offer Uber seats and take out along with a lunch menu

  • Krysthle Poitras

Best and favorite place for Indian food in Ottawa/Gatineau. Extremely friendly owners with great customer service. Portions are generous, food and flavours are excellent. They are always giving me some extras, they are so generous! My favorites are the paneer, samosas, vegetable pakoras and the gulab jamun. The tamarind sauce and chutney are also excellent. Mango lassi delicious. Highly recommend. Lots of vegetarian options, which I appreciate. And even some vegan options if you ask! If you want to support a local business, this one pours heart and soul into it.

  • Nirma Punilta

I got samosas here and I can't explain how stale it was. the dough tasted salt less. i had just took one bit and all the potatoes started falling out. No taste at all. Waste of money!!!! Thought their sweets would be good but nope it was hard as rock. When i told them that the sweets were hard and samosas stale. He was direct and very rude. Customer service skills 0/5 Would never go here. Reply to what worker said: Good thing you stopped selling samosas especially during this COVID-19 time! I had a very bad experience eating your samosa. Everyone will be saved.

Wonderful Aloo Paratha and Jalebi for breakfast during the Thanksgiving weekend! We happened to come to Indian Express because it was one of the few Indian restaurants open early. Little did we know that we were in for such a wonderful breakfast. We ended up coming here again for a late Lunch and ordered the Vegetarian Thali and were not disappointed. Great good and great hosts. Don’t forget about the Indian style Chai Tea and Coffee as well to complete your meals.

Would give it a 0 if I could. I was in the area and needed to get Naan, so I decided to try this place out. Worst decision! The naan was the kind you get at the grocery store warmed up and just drenched with oil...oil not even butter. So the $2 naan you get at the grocery store I paid $2/piece. I got some sweets (barfi) thank god I only got two pieces, they were hard and smelt like it had freezer burn so definitely not fresh! I would advise to avoid this place at all costs and should have some food inspectors come visit!

  • Vaishnavi Prabhu

Most terrible place I've eaten at. The food was completely stale and when i told them about it they didn't even bother to apologise or even acknowledge. The naan seemed frozen, store-bought. I got an upset stomach immediately after eating here. The place was extremely unhygienic, the table cloth was not washed for god knows how long and the glasses had stains as well. Extremely terrible.

Best Indian food in all of Ottawa. Walking in the staff were extreme friendly and accommodating. My girlfriend and I ordered the Aloo tikki, Paneer Pakora, Butter Chicken, and Chicken Biryani. Extremely flavorful and high quality ingredients as well as generous portions. My Indian born girlfriend was beyond impressed with it and the roofed, spacious patio made for a memorable romantic date night. All in all it was an excellent experience and would recommend this place to anybody. 10/10

First time visiting this great place! The food was a good value but I did find some of the dishes a bit dry like they had been sitting out for a while, but overall everything was very tasty. We ordered the combo tray which included one meat option along with two vegetable options. I ordered a mango lassi to go with it which was very thick and delicious. I will definitely be coming back whenever I'm in need of a taste of Indian food. If you live in the area I suggest you check it out.

  • Mama like Damn You Really Made It

I just recently found out about this place and all I have to say is that the food is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! The staff are extremely friendly and respectful! Have even been given extra food, always generous with the portions as well! The prices are just GREAT! I'm a student and I don't have much time to cook so my girlfriend and I attend this restaurant almost every day! Highly recommend this to anyone who wants to try authentic Indian food!!! Best Indian food in town hands down.

  • Ain Hans

I had the pleasure of ordering a Chicken Thali and a box of sweets from Indian Express Food and Sweets, and I must say, it was an incredible experience. The food was absolutely delicious, and the sweets were beyond amazing. I was truly impressed by the flavors and quality of the meal. If you're looking for a place that serves mouthwatering food and irresistible sweets, I highly recommend Indian Express Food and Sweets.

Don’t recommend at all. Their quality is not worth the cost of their food. This is the first time I am writing a review because i have never been this disappointed before. All the reviews about naan are so true. And definitely not the best butter chicken in town. While reading other reviews, I found out that the owner/ restaurant team have replied to every bad review (not in a good way) Sir/ madam please focus on the improving the quality rather then defending yourself.

  • James Welsh

Sweets are very good. The take out is not very good although I must be missing something as there are many testimonials (mainly from local policemen for some reason). Eating in the restaurant is not a good experience. The dining room is messy and dirty. The service was rude. Actually I've noticed this every time I go there the gentleman seems to be ok but his wife is almost always in a bad mood. Pretty sure the guy that gave this place a great rating owns the place!

  • Jeffrey Lapratte

I was introduced to this place recently when a friend of mine was picking up his annual Diwali order of sweets. The owner greeted us like family and was kind enough to share the spoils of his labour which he had been preparing for days. After trying a few samples, I was keen to bring a box home for my family and to my surprise, the small package of sweets was on the house. I’m not familiar with everything that I tried but I enjoyed all of it and recommend a visit.

  • VJ Ror

I just read other reviews and their replies by the owner. I can tell just from pics that naans are not fresh, they are grocery store naans. I've been eating naans for past 10yrs in Brampton and I know the difference very well. All the good reviews are from non-indian people who have hard time telling the difference. I was thinking of getting sweets from here but, the way Owner replied to every bad review. He won't be in business if he was in Brampton or Surrey.

Delicious food and excellent service! We decided to stop in at Indian Express on our way home from running some errands. It was our first time and we were not disappointed. The owners were extremely friendly and helpful. They took time to explain the menu and make some suggestions. We ordered our food to go and they were very quick in preparing it. We ordered butter chicken and beef curry, SO GOOD! It is a must have when looking for delicious Indian food!

  • Jigesh Gajjar

I could give less than if its an option. we asked for sabji without onion and garlic. I picked up after 1 hour and it was ready but they make sabji with 35 to 40 curry leaves and gravy of kadhi not tomato. when called he was insulting and asking take your money back etc. if you don't want to make order than say no instead of accepting request to customize it. pls check the photo and wish you would say no next time if I ask customization

  • Taylor Trott

Got the Butter Chicken and Alu combo with garlic naan and it was fine. Was it the best Indian food I've ever had? No. Was it a bit bland? Yes. But the people commenting saying it is inedible seem to think this way because of the experience with the owner. The food is very cheap, the portions are decent, and it's not awful. Good budget Indian meal in my opinion, much cheaper than a lot of other places so don't expect 5 star quality.

  • Kendra Watchorn

I've only ever uber eated from here (one day i'll visit!) But I've probably ordered over 20 times. I LOVE their paneer dishes, so so good. I've tried multiple, but the shahi paneer is my favourite. The portions are huge and you CANNOT beat the prices for the quality. I always have leftovers and get compliments when I bring it to work the next day Don't be discouraged by any bad reviews, everything I've tried is amazing!

  • Md Shafiqul Islam

The sweet shop's box had an unexpectedly high weight, and it appeared they added extra paper to increase the weight further. This has raised doubts about the management's transparency. Furthermore, the quality of the sweets did not meet the expected standard, leading to a disappointing experience. As a result, I have decided to avoid visiting this place in the future.

Stale food, looks like they cook it once a week and keep giving everyone that only as the business doesn’t do so well. Plus the guy at the counter(owner himself) was arrogant and rude, while the lady was nice she have nice customer service. Don’t go for the sweets for sure coz i just looked at it and can tell it was really old and bad for sure.

Last week we got chance in our company trip to Ottawa and we were looking for Indian restaurant as we found one . And when we went there we felt so happy with hospitality of the owners and his wife . And when we ate food it was so delicious . We went three days in row . And we tried so many different dishes . And every single dish is very tasty and yummy . And we definitely recommend this restaurant to all . Thanks

By far the best Indian food I have ever had in my life. Amazing service from start to finish - our server was extremely warm and welcoming, and kept us smiling the whole time. He had great recommendations that blew everyone's mind when they came to the table. The food came out quick and it was absolutely mouthwatering. I can't wait to go back and have already told all my family and friends about it.

  • Nikesh Bost

Fantastic service and were especially helpful at identifying gluten free options! We have been searching for gluten free sweets for Diwali, and almost all of them were! The food was great as well, including the gluten free naan! Great place for gluten-free indian food and sweets! They also did a great job at managing COVID precautions and made is feel safe/comfortable. Will be going back soon!!

  • Rishabh Nanda

Placed an Uber order from this place as I was visiting Ottawa. The restaurant canceled my order stating the food is out of stock and in a minute I saw them selling a combo of the out of stock food at double price on the app. Really pathetic!! Update: You can see that most of the 5 stars are purchased reviews from “local guide”!

Went to this place in Jan’19 with one of my good friend upon his strong recommendation. I ordered a tandoori plate $15 with a Naan. I was surprised by the taste, I just got a feeling of me sitting in India - Dhaba and relishing the authentic tandoori chicken. The next day due to spices, I had a bad stomach or else my rating would have been 5 stars easily. I would visit this place again.

Amazing butter chicken!! I've lived in Hintonburg my whole life and have been going here for years, including this week. Reading some of the most recent reviews (which are very personal and hateful - I'm quite shocked). Ignore these crazy people and get some delicious food. I traveled India earlier this year before covid, and honestly never got as a good a Malai kofta as I have here.

  • Indian Foodie

This place is so so good, that I've been there three times in under 2 months. Each time we go, we always order the different assortments of sweets; this place reminds me of back home. The owners has extremely sweet and gave us lots of samples before we decided to buy the right one. The butter chicken is definitely a try on. Each sweet dish is seasoned with it's own unique recipe.

  • nyer0708

So it rarely happens when in the middle of eating food I write a review but oh my god is the food so delicious! Generous portion at an extremely reasonable price. This restaurant has hard working, honest people working. I highly recommend this restaurant! I ordered butter chicken, curry chicken, and curry beef with garlic Naan and everything is finger licking delicious!!!

  • Nazanin Azari

Very disappointed. We ordered Lamb Biryani and got some rice cooked in oil and tomato sauce, NO biryani spices and just some chili powder with herbs + store-bought (frozen and processed) meat balls that were cut in half, instead of actual lamb!!! this is called cheating the customer! seriously hope you change your quality of food. What you sold us was not Lamb Biryani.

  • majd s.

Did not find it the greatest. I spent over $60 for 3 dishes and naan bread. Turns out none of the meals come with rice. Rice would be an extra $7. Food itself was average. Some of the meals were completely bland and would be done better off a YouTube recipe. Customer service was a bit rude/too direct. I would look for another place next time i crave Indian food.

  • Palden McLennan

I have been getting food from Indian Express for many years including when it was further west on Somerset. It's my favourite go-to restaurant for thali - inexpensive and very tasty. The owners, who are very pleasant and friendly, have recently renovated the space and added new tables, chairs, etc. This has noticeably upgraded the interior for sit down meals.

  • Gaurav Ruhil

Very nice experience. I visited this restaurant today for lunch with my friend and her 3 years old daughter. Just after we entered the place we were welcomed by a waitress with great smile. The service was excellent. The food tasty and aromatic. We ordered chicken and lentil soups, lamb, okra and different naans. The restrooms were sparkling clean

They charge double on uber eats so their 2 for 1 offer Is actually just the same price as buying two. It's deceiving, dishonest and trashy. If they think people are that dumb I wouldn't want to give them business. Show your community more respect than that and you wouldn't have to bait people into ordering your subpar Indian food.

  • Braedyn Stockfish

The customer service was excellent, they were very welcoming and gave me a discount even on my order...but now I know why...the food was very subpar. I tried 4 different dishes and none of them were quality. Dry food, not fresh, and not cared for. I am very familiar with Indian food and this is not the place to find it in Ottawa.

  • Swetha Chandan

Worst sweets ever brought I think the picture speaks about it, it’s already in a dustbin.. not at all fresh, it’s too hard to consume and it smells. I don’t recommend at all.. I would be happy to give 0 rating since I have no option giving it 1 .

The person was pretty rude. He smirked after listening to where we lived and that we came almost 30 km away to just buy the sweets. It was our first time there and we really got ignored by the person in the shop. The sweets might be good quality but the staff needs to be trained more to talk properly with the customers

  • Craig O'Brien

This is my favourite Indian take-away in the city. The owners are very nice people, always courteous, and the food is great. The butter chicken is particularly good. I also think that the other reviewer must be employed/ connected with a competing restaurant because her review is completely "out to lunch" so to speak.

  • Gulshan Kumari

Food was stale. I wish I could never had order it. It seems they cooked the fish pakora early and then just warmed it and served. Fish was too hard to chew and sauces had weird taste. I dumped the all food. I was so disappointed the amount I paid and I will never recommend to anyone to order the food your restaurant.

  • Grace C

Great food, ver nice lady serving us. Bought sweets for diwali and they are great, had some sweets that I have not seen in along time. Samosas and butter chicken were great I hope that it will stay open. Good portions for the price.

Serving portion is good, we ordered 2 dishes and a bowl of rice and that was more than enough for 3 hungry people with leftovers remaining. However if you are an international brown person like me, the quality of food is average at best (nothing amazing). However my non brown friends enjoyed the food.

  • Marie MacDonald

Ordered for the first time beef vindaloo with naan and basmati rice. I have to say it was among the best beef vindaloo's I have had in this city: really hot, which is why I order beef vindaloo, but not overly hot that I couldn't enjoy it. Perfect! Will definitely be ordering from Indian Express again!

  • Arshdeep Kaur

Welcoming service by the staff.♥️ Mouthwatering food.Butter chicken is the best dish of this place.Nice dine in area.Enough space for dine in outside n inside patio.Naans are really fresh & fluffy. I will love to visit this place again.

Not too sure why there are so many negative reviews lately but I just ordered a Butter Chicken Lunch and Jalebi today and it was delicious. Even had a pleasant conversation with the owner. Would walk 1KM for the food again. Excited to try other dishes.

Great restaurant. I have been eating at Indian Express for a few years now. Rakesh always goes above and beyond in the kitchen, He will even customize your order to your liking. Family owned, local business and amazing food. Well known in the city. I hope everyone gets to experience Indian express.

My wife and I couldn’t eat more than a few bits and ended up chucking it in the trash. Very oily and tasted like eating pure turmeric. In my opinion, very low quality ingredients and food.

Excellent first visit today at Indian Express. The portions are wicked, and there is lots of selection. The staff even pointed out the cheaper lunch option when I made my order. And my meal was delicious. I am already excited to go back to try out more of their menu. A neighbourhood gem!

  • Kelly Salvador

Our go-to takeaway spot! I've been ordering from IE for 8+ years and their consistency has never failed. Awesome service, the best butter chicken and veg dishes, and their mango lassi finishes everything off. Newly renovated, it's also a sweet little spot to sit in for lunch or dinner.

  • Simranjit Singh

The malai kofta was to hard to chew, the butter chicken was too oily and the naan were not fresh. It’s the worst food i’ve ever had. NOT WORTH YOUR MONEY!

I was a bit skeptical because of the reviews but after trying their food, it’s obvious a few angry customers just write a bunch of lies. This food is the best Indian food in Ottawa. It might not be the most fancy, but it’s the food that hits the spot when you’re craving Indian food

  • Monica Koura

Best Indian food I’ve ever had. The food was amazing. I’m definitely coming back. I would totally recommend this to someone who loves Indian food. You will be impressed. Everything about this restaurant is amazing. The price, the quality, the workers are very nice. Worthy visit.

  • Pandi Q

It was good at first but I think they changed the chef. The quality went down both the taste and quality of meat. Before they give you enough to actually fill you, now there is barely enough meat, just rice and a very watery sauce. Very disappointed, never again!

My family and I love going to Indian Express. The quality of the food is really good and the prices are great. The have the BEST pakoras I have yet to find in Ottawa. However, it is the owners that makes us come back time after time. They are wonderful!

  • Ali

This is the best Indian food I have ever had, and I use to live in India. Very delicious, affordable and the portions are also very generous. You are always greeted with a smile when you pick up your order and the owners are very friendly and helpful.

  • sen G

The food tasted like it was cooked two days ago and warmed up. The butter chicken has no flavour and the samosa was soft as hell. No good. Skip this joint and make friends with a South Asain family- the most hospitable people! who love to feed others!

  • Regan Kiefer

Indian Express never disappoints! The food is well-priced & authentic; rich & flavourful. We have been happy customers for years. And when all else failed, a spicy meal at Indian Express brought on labour in both of my overdue pregnancies! Thank you!

  • Evan K

Naan bread was naantastic! Mango lassi was deliciously refreshing. Said I was vegetarian and they hooked me up. Was enough for 2 so I took the rest to go. I am very satisfied with my experience. And I liked the Indian music videos playing on the TV.

  • kiran babu

Ordered butter chicken through uber eats... never had such a tastless butter chicken in my entire life, the food was so rancid.... the gravy had a sour taste and I trashed the entire item, since I never wanted to give my stomach a tough time...

  • Natassia Rees-Evans

We ordered their 2 for 1 masala chicken rice tonight and it is so delicious! Such a prefect blend of spices and a generous portion. A great deal, I highly recommend to anyone living in the Ottawa area :) the staff is beyond friendly as well!

A great find in Ottawa for both sweets and food. I’ve had the opportunity to try it since last summer and I enjoyed it every time. The spices are perfect for my taste and they have really nice boxes for sweets to bring as a gift.

  • Ali Damji

Have been here a few times. The butter chicken is delicious. Very authentic and full of flavour. The staff is friendly and remembers you by name when you visit. Lots of indian sweets available as well. Good experience all around

  • Fashion Mafia

Not worth butter chicken. You can cook better then this at home. First and last time buying from this restaurant. Butter chicken taste like some old curry. Not 1% equals to real butter chicken. Really disappointed with money.

  • Maryam Shaheed's ART

It was clean nice shop ..the owners were nice ..sweets were good, but the samosa was rotten when I opened it and inside it had mold my brother had stomach cramps what if we get seriously sick ..please be careful for hygiene

Snacked on Samosa chat. Eating here, I felt like a member of the family eating at home. The preparation was excellent, taste was very close to what my mother would have cooked for me, and service was superb with a smile.

  • Sarah

Delicious is an understatement... the butter chicken is absolutely the best I ever tasted. The staff are kind and very friendly . Highly recommended. My number one choice for Indian food. I would definitely go back again

  • Cris Sinnott

Easily the best Indian food in Ottawa. Went for the first time while walking by and will be back again regularly. Great portion size and excellent flavours. I’m astounded at the mixed reviews on Google. Easy 5 star.

  • Sunnah Spot

The manager of our organization suggested we try out this place. The portions are so big and the food has so much flavour in every bite. Even when I was full, it tasted just as good. And that’s saying something..

  • Jessica Williams

This place is incredible! The owners are so kind and very friendly. A family owned and operated business serving some of the best Indian food I have ever had! I will be dreaming about this meal for a long time!

I got takeout thali. Food was good but wasn't hot. They could have warmed it up. I didn't like the sweet, probably because I tried it for the first time and you need an acquired taste to like it. So 3 stars!

  • Brittany C.

We've ordered from Indian Express many times and have never been disappointed. The food is absolutely delicious, portion sizes are plenty and the staff are always so nice! Highly highly recommend this place!

  • Darsh Sidhu

Tried jalebi after reading many views, but it was bad. It tastes so weird. It seems as if bad oil was used for frying jalebi. It had a bitter after taste to it. It was too sweet. Not recommended at all.
