I found a push cart for my grandma for 55 dollars and got charged 65 for it. They take your shopping bags from other stores and put it behind the counter then give you a number on a broken up cardboard to retrieve your items. And make you very uncomfortable to shop here. While I was looking around I caught him looking through my bags. I didn't care much because all I had was some half eaten food and two baseball caps. But that is incredibly unprofessional. And now that I know he scammed me of 10 dollars it makes me feel like he was a thief looking through my belongings. They are worried about people stealing because they are thieves themselves. And I will not rest till I get my 10 dollars back. It's the moral of the event, not about the money, or that employee fired. He was also very very rude and sketchy. I tried to be nice and he rolled his eyes at me I just said how was your day, such a rude judgemental thief working here. This happened on October 31.

Their card reader says “NO TAP”. Saw it but out of habit, I did tap my card, honestly unintentional. When the transaction went through, I was surprised. I thought it had to be SWIPE or INSERT only. I commented in surprise but the cashier explained that the sign means the customer has to tap the card and not the staff. RIP English. Her raised voice indicated that she was annoyed at my reaction and we started an argument. In return, I also raised my voice. Then she indirectly told me to sign the bill and get out of the store. Best customer service ever (sarcasm). I try to understand her because generally and not all, that’s how Filipinos are when they serve Filipino customers. I hope she doesn’t do this to other nationalities. I will still come back to check on something I need that I don’t find at dollar stores.

Today was my first time visiting this mall and this store and it wasn't a pleasant experience. Don’t shop here. They wanted customers to leave their outside bags behind their registers. This may be a process they are using to reduce/eliminate shoplifting, but this is not customer-friendly. I personally refuse to spend my money in a place that sees me as a potential thief. I didn't argue or question them, I left immediately. This request of theirs also opens the door for them to discriminate against whom they choose to take bags from. I plan to bring this to the media’s attention.

Worst people to deal with. Never go to this store. owners are cheaters. I bought the sofa covers this afternoon. Ask the girl at the counter if I can open the pack to check the size but she said, I am not suppose to open it. So, I told her I will bring home and see the size If it doesn't fit i will bring back for  refund and she agreed . When I came back in an hour time to refund. She shamelessly said, we can not refund you the money. I left the sofa covers for them to have it for free. They lost my business for ever.

It’s important for organizations to embrace corporate social responsibility especially in relation to their customers and Home Essential is not one of those organizations that care about customer service which they really need to work on. I had a very bad experience exchanging a product and those experiences make you feel the hurt of spending the money you really worked hard for, it’s unfair and it’s robbing people of their earnings.

My experience at Home Essential i don't know how to describe it i went to buy some mats and my friend came with me she was called by the cashier to leave her bag at the cash out i felt so bad plus they were not friendly i believe they need customer service training, Scarborough is a diverse Community you should be nice too everyone that comes in your store, why i shop there is because they have beautiful mats

I bought a shower caddy tension pole from the home essentials which is in malvern town centre which was $44. It was inside the box and I was not allowed to open it in the shop before buying ,it was a used broken one. Take it back to return but shop was closed at Sunday at 11.30 am After that they didn’t take it back because I was not able to take it back within the week

Bought 8 eyeliners here because they were sparkly and colourful. I just wanted to try them out since it happened to be there. By the time I left the mall, I opened them all up to see that they're dried up. I checked the receipt to also find out that they don't do any refunds or exchanges.

The store has lots of different home merchandise such as curtains, rugs, kitchenware, beds and mattresses, etc. The staff are nice and they do allow 7 days for returns. We did not have any fuss returning an item we bought within the 7 day period, but just make sure you keep the receipt.

  • Dave Transfiguracion

Very nice staff specially the one who is working in the register. He explained the return policy in a professionall manner. Though it would be nice if the bag is free of charge. Overall, a nice place to buy stuffs in Scarborough area.

Would have given minus -5 stars, never gonna visit again, rude manager no work ethics. Just leaves customers unattended, acts as if customer is being choosy for asking too many questions! -100% cannot recommend in the community.

  • Francis Ramsammy

Home Essentials had an amazing variety of items at the best prices I've seen in a long time, furniture, beds, clothing and home decor to name a few. Browse to your heart's content.

  • Raine Amari

Here you pay full price for defective merchandise & they don't do returns or exchanges; disgusting example of why we should stick to big stores like Walmart or shop online.

  • Rukhshanda Aslam

Very very rude owner.very angry behavior towards costumers .arguing costumers who ask for refund.they kept my item and denied to exchange. Worst experience ever.

  • Bald Eagle

Often rude and bland. No returns even if bad quality. Only exchange in 7 days. But I will have to say they have a BIG shop with great variety and good prices!

  • AYANA ALEX

Affordable prices for almost everything. Some products are even cheaper than dollar stores. The only catch is no return or exchange policy.

  • Punya Subedi

The manger yelled at us because we wanted a refund on a kitchen mat. I would recommend that none shops here at Home Essentials at tapscott.

  • Itsjustme :
