I’ll start with the positive aspect of my experience: the service is fantastic. The servers were friendly and efficient. Absolutely no complaints there. However, the laminated top of the table we were seated at had a corner peeling up. It created a bubble on the edge and I was worried it was going to knock over my drink. We were brought some shrimp crackers and a peanut-y dipping sauce, which was pretty good. Out food suspiciously only took about 5 minutes to arrive after we placed our orders. Granted, there were only about 5 or 6 tables of customers at this point, but that still seemed really, really fast. We ordered a chicken Pad Thai and a Bamee Pad (#40 and #42) from the menu. Ok I’m just gonna say this- the Pad Thai is not good. I’m no Pad Thai expert, but I’ve ordered it from a few different places at before, and the only thing this dish had in common with anything else I’d tried before is that it is topped with chopped peanuts. It was similar to something, though, and I placed the taste after a couple bites- Kraft barbecue sauce- Thats exactly what this dish tasted like to me- maybe with some added chili flakes or something, but the more I tried it, the more I noticed that this is what this dish tasted like! Even the chicken tastes alot like something could’ve roasted at home with some Kraft original bbq sauce on it. Eventually, the flavours became so strikingly similar to me, that I just started calling it barbecue pasta. I would not order this dish from this restaurant again. My dining companion ordered Bamee Pad. They enjoyed it. I tried this dish and thought it was just okay. The only flavour I could really distinguish was fish sauce- otherwise it was an unremarkable dish. The vegetables stir fried in are that of the frozen “medley” cauliflower, carrot, and broccoli. They said they probably wouldn’t order it again. I wouldn’t return.

The Green Papaya turned out to be a great Thai restaurant. I was expecting a regular Thai restaurant with the same old dishes. However, the food wasn't average: it was significantly better. The Pad Thai was different from the regular Pad Thai. None of us could stop eating it. The other dishes were flavourful, too. The seating area is a little on the small side, but we didn't mind as the food compensated for it. For those who like beer, you'll be pleased to know that they have a decent selection of Asian beers (Thai, Singapore, Japanese, and others) as well as European. The price of the food isn't excessive. For the 4 of us with 3 beers, a couple of starters, 5 entree dishes, and 2 deserts, it came to $185. The service was good too. I will return again for the food. The guy in the picture isn't me.....he's a guy who loves his food, but couldn't figure out how best to showcase the food, resulting in a funny smile & pose. It was a pleasant dining experience.

If you're looking for traditional Thai curries with great strong flavor - do NOT eat here. This restaurant actually used to be good, but their quality has went downhill. The flavors are sooo bland and they focus more on to trying to make their dishes look appealing instead of making them taste appealing... I had the daily curry special (2.7/5) which came with a bit of everything. Everything was edible but nothing tasted great. Everything was lacking flavor or just had the wrong flavor completely. My friend ordered pad Thai and it looked repulsive and tasted super off, nothing like it should, and based off other reviews of the pad Thai I am not the only one that had this problem.

Nice decor and music, calm atmosphere for comfortable dining. Shrimp chips were served with tasty peanut sauce, but those chips never did grab me. The food was well presented and very tasty - Tom Ka soup, chicken curry with Jasmin rice. There is a selection of domestic and imported beers. We arrived at 8pm and the food was served within minutes. Staff seemed a bit rushed as it approached 9pm, wanting to clean up and go home.

We order the Gaeng Kaew Wan (green curry) and the Pla Sam Rot (tilapia). The green curry was alright, it tasted okay but it was missing a richer, fuller flavour. If you compare this to other restaurants, I would not come back again. Especially for the $50 we paid for these two, quite simple dishes. I like that they use paper bags instead of plastic bags. For the tilapia dish it was missing... well, fish! It was mostly breading. I’m going to say 30% fish and 70% breading. The taste of the sauce for the tilapia was alright. However, like many had pointed out, it seemed and tasted like a bunch of canned vegetables had been thrown together in a pot with some vegetables. If you asked me for a recommendation, it would not be this place. Would not try again

Admittedly - am a big fan of Thai food. Having spent a month touring around the country, fuelled this passion, and is a main reason that Thai remains at the top of my list for takeout. The Green Papaya is in the neighbourhood, so it’s an easy walk, but in the winter, I opted for the car. The menu is varied - and also include vegetarian options. The papaya salad is one of my favourites, as is the ubiquitous Pad Thai. The ‘Nuer Pad Prik Sod’, for those that like it spice (as I do), was delightful and also comes with its own warming, ‘Can you take it? This level is for addicts, masochists, and Thai nationals. Management accepts no responsibility for side effects.’ I enjoyed it all! Give this place a try and let me know your thoughts! Happy eating!

My girlfriend and I went here for our anniversary, due to it being recommended by family. The restaurant is very nicely decorated inside, with some tables having nice cushioned seats with pillows. The service was great, they were quick to seat us and take our order. They were there when we needed them and very friendly. The food was the only issue we had. I tried a jungle curry dish with beef and it was pretty bland, with the beef (which there wasn't much of) being the only flavorful part of the dish. My girlfriend had the Pad Thai and the sauce they use wasn't to her liking, they were also very stingy on the shrimp. Overall, I probably wouldn't go back. The price was just too high for what we got on our plates and wasn't very good either.

Generous portions of authentic Thai food served in a traditionally-decorated locale. Plenty of vegetarian options (indicated with a green heart on the menu) that can be made vegan simply by removing egg, as dairy is not traditionally a part of Thai cuisine. Standard prices. Very quick service, even on busy evenings. Nice location in Little Italy with plenty of street parking nearby (free evenings after 5:30pm and weekends).

Had dinner with two others before a show at the Gladstone theatre. Everyone's meal was delicious! Thought the price seemed high for the fresh spring rolls until they arrived. The size and freshness easily justified the price. The Pad thai with shrimp was great and a nice size as well. The sauce which came with the complementary shrimp chips was preferred by the others than the sauce with their chicken, but both were tasty. Small complimentary parking in the back wasn't an issue, although we did arrive early. The service was very prompt and the servers were very friendly.

  • Brian M

It was okay. Ambiance was good, the place was clean. On this visit, we were under the impression that asking for stuff to the waitress was a burden on her. Food didn't come with chopsticks, when I asked for it, the waitress practically rolled her eyes while she said she'd get them. The same when asked if they served alcohol, then when we asked for tiger beer, she went ok in a demeaning manner and never came back with such beer ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ The food was tasty, but the entire experience was a bit bitter. I'm glad I experienced the place and won't need to go back.

  • Elle Oh

I was never ripped off harder than I just was as this restaurant. I ordered a tom yum soup with shrimps to go. I was charged over $8 for what turned out to be a CLEAR soup with a bunch of canned mushrooms, green onions, NO other vegetables, and three little shrimps. And the container was half the size of what would fill a can of soup. THEN I'm scrolling down the reviews which I effing failed to do bc I was in a hurry. I see at least TWO reviews talking about seeing a mouse!?!???!!! They never even gave me a plastic spoon to eat with! NEVER again.

  • Philippe Moore

Easily the best shrimp Pad Thai in the city! Order the medium spice level if you like feeling heat to the point of sweating and needing water breaks, which is why I ask for in between mild and medium, AKA a bit spicy. Choose spicier than medium at your own risk or if you’re a spicy food aficionado.

Probably the worst “Thai” place I’ve ever been to. The pad thai had disgustingly sweet barbecue VH sauce on it, what even is that? I didn’t touch it at all, let the waitress know my displeasure, and yet I still had to pay for it with a “$4 discount.” My boyfriend’s curry was edible, at least. This place is purely a tourist trap due to the location being right in Little Italy. I do not recommend this place if you’re insisting on authentic Thai food.

Great place, great service, great food! We had the best server I’ve ever had in a restaurant! Luckana was super friendly and gave us her honest opinion about all their menu choices which brought us to our perfect dinner. The place had a great ambiance and very clean. The food is savoury and they are very accommodating with your spice tolerance. The tingling in your tongue and lips definitely lingers. They do not just play around with flavours - they have perfected them to no fault. 10000% will be coming back!

  • Olivia Parent

Food was very fresh and flavourful. Service was extremely slow, even for drinks. We ordered waters when we first met our server, yet they forgot three glasses and failed to return until after we ordered our food, at least 20 minutes later. The appetizers came out at least 20 minutes later and the main course took nearly 30 minutes to arrive once the appetizer plates were cleared. All in all, we spent over 2 hours at this restaurant, but over half of this time was spent waiting. I doubt I will be returning.

I forgot how great it is to dine in and experience the ambiance of the Green Papaya restaurant. The delicious aroma greets you at the door and the attentive service and amazing food make you want to return. The food is amazing. The ambiance was quiet, peaceful and intimate so my friends and I really enjoyed meeting here for a departure meal! Everything was so tasty and nicely presented. It is a basic choice but my vegetarian pad Thai was done so well, it didn’t need anything else. I’ve been on the hunt for a good pad Thai and have always left somewhat satisfied but that really filled my craving and my expectations. Very pleasantly surprised with this restaurant ❤️

Not a soul can miss this restaurant. God's work. This place deserves so much more recognition. I truly think this restaurant is one of the best restaurants in Ottawa. A must see place for the freshest foods out there. Not only are the prices low, but the scenery around is really amusing! They also do exquisite on time delivery! 10/10 for the food, client service, decorations, employees and more! Green Papaya, an experience of a lifetime!

Ended up here because the other two Thai places were take out only. Service was great, nice atmosphere. Ordered To Kha soup and Tom Yum soups. Both were quite good. Coconut milk could have been blended better into the Tom Kha. The Pad Thai and Beef with Basil were both very good. Glad the other places were unavailable for dine in.

Today I went to Green Papaya for lunch with my office team. I was surprised to see not much crowd in there. I ordered Pad Thai with tofu. The first bite made me feel “wow” and awestruck. The food was really amazing and better than what I would normally expect. Service was good. They were able to bring our food to table for all 10 people in like 15 mins. I am definitely going again with my family and friends.

This is our "go to" place for Thai food. Pad Thai and Nuer Takai are regular orders for both dining in and take away. The atmosphere at the Preston restaurant is great with friendly staff. Thanks Green Papaya for feeding 6 of us a variety of dishes that were all delicious. Some enjoyed spring rolls & pad thai, my green curry was rich in flavour with coconut milk and the right amount of spice. My friends eggplant dish looked delicious ( the only reason I did not try is because I do not eat meat) Would definitely go back

I had an order of very disappointing chicken pad thai from the GP Wagon at asianfest. The noodles were mushy, the veggies stiff as cardboard and the chicken was flavourless plus it was $18 for a small portion. I don't think this could have been any worse.

Food was below average. At the end of our meal, a mouse walked by our table. I mentioned it quietly to the satff, since there were other customers there and I didn't want to scare then off. They told us "it's cold outside, they are coming in"... They still made me pay for my bill.

This place is always good. We've gone with folks from work for lunches over the years. The service isn't overly friendly but it is very efficient and quick. The food is always spot on and fresh and food. Great food. Good service. You can't go wrong. Try it, you'll like it!

  • Sharon Boyle

Good until I found a metal wire in my food. Lost my appetite at that point, yet they left it there on the table expecting me to finish it. Snatched the wire out of my hand and disposed of it before I could object. Took off 20%, but they should have comped me the full meal.

  • M. Carriere

Service was good, but the food was underwhelming. My husband tried the most spicy meal on the menu, he enjoyed it. I tried the Pad Thai, worst I've ever had. So sweet I couldn't eat it. Basically tasted like noodles with sugar sauce...could not decifer any other flavour.

  • Kim Ennis

Yummy tasting thai, quiet atmosphere, friendly wait staff, fast service. Parking is iffy... a few spots behind the resto but i usually park on the street. Or in a pay lot nearby if i have to. Washrooms clean though downstairs so hard on someome with mobility challenges.

  • MA AM

I got pad Thai and veggie spring rolls, it was good but honestly at $10 for 3 spring rolls and $17 for pad Thai you would think it would taste REALLY good but it was just good. Comparable to other places with 3 star ratings and prices in the $10-$14 range for pad Thai.

  • Karen K

I think they may have the best Thai in the city! Absolutely delicious plates, good sized portions, and good service. They were super busy last weekend and seemingly short staffed, but the service was efficient nonetheless. Without a doubt we will be going back.

So disappointed with the food. It's so different from what it used to be. Wonder if they've changed the chief or the ownership. just put it in a simple way. It's not Thai food at all. More like chinese chop Sui.

Green curry is good. For dinner, rice is extra. Be prepared to spend at least $20 per person for an entree. A little bit on the pricey side. Heard lunch dishes are a good deal so might come again for that.

Food was good and good service. Entertained by mouse running around. Place could use a facelift. Combo plate doesn't come with soup and is priced higher than most Thai places.

First time at this Ottawa institution, and I loved it! Had the crispy beef and it was delicious. Can't wait to come back and try some of their other dishes.

Amazing thai cuisine ever at Little Italy ❤️❤️ The food quality and quantity was awesome and they have such a calm personality to serve foods☺️☺️☺️ …

The reason I only give 4 stars is because there is 1 day per week (Thursdays) where the sauce is mostly ketchup. The full time chef is amazing, however.

Good little surprise. Didn’t expect much coming here but we were pleasantly surprised. Delicious Pad Thai and panang curry. Tom kha soup was just ok.

Really quick service and super flavourful food. Prices are low when you take into consideration the average meal cost in Ottawa these days as well.

The Green Papaya is one of my favorite restaurants. The food idealists delicious and the service is excellent!! Went there tonight what a treat!!

The restaurant looks beautiful and service was average but food portions really small and nothing to write home about. We both left still hungry.

Excellent food and fantastic service. This is my go to place for this type of cousine. Parking can get tricky on weekends, but worth the effort.

Good food and service. We sat on the patio outside which provided a nice setting to eat during sunny days. Did not have to wait long for food.

Has the best green curry in Ottawa! Was is Thailand this year and it's comparable to over there. Also very nice lady's that always work there.

We were a group of 17 for lunchtime celebration. Delicious food, wonderful service and very pretty venue. We will definitely be going again !

The food is just really bad, which is a shame because the servers are great. But honestly, I have no idea how this place is rated so highly.

Delicious! I ordered the pad thai with tofu and the tofu was amazing! They must have fried it, but it also tasted like the sauce too …

Dinner for three: fast and fragrant, with friendly and efficient service. Great quality and value with Thai beer to complement our meal.

Very disappointed to see mice running around while eating.

Wanted to go eat there. Website said they were open to 10pm. Arrived at 9pm and was told the kitchen was closed and were turned away.

Subpar experience with poor service, but their coconut curry is excellent. Service however needs to be greatly improved. Very slow.
