I was a new patient with East Sydney Doctors and booked in for an appointment with Dr Catherine Insley. I left feeling disappointed at the way she conducted the consultation and will not be returning. First, the wait time exceeded 45 mins, which was a surprising because my appointment was booked for early in the morning. It's normal for a doctor to be running behind schedule, but for such delay for one of the earlier appointments during the day felt unprofessional. It also felt frustrating because I had arrived in advance to give plenty of time to fill in my new patient medical form. The doctor didn't even acknowledge the delay when she called me in. Next, and the main reason why I was so disappointed, is how the doctor handled the rest of the consultation. Dr Insley lacked any sense of empathy or interest in me as a patient; for example, when I was unsure how much I weighed (because I do not own a scale), she did not even bother to measure it herself. My main takeaway was that I paid $140 to have my blood pressure checked and that's about all. Next time, I will not bother paying the extra $ to see a private doctor and will definitely not return to this medical practice.

I have just started seeing Dr David Baker after my previous GP moved on. For a Doctor who is as busy as David, his level of care and concern is second to none. Not only did I test positive for covid, but David called me each day after my diagnosis to check on me and ensure there were no issues that needed addressing. He did not have to do this but I appreciated it immensely and it gave me comfort knowing he was just a call away. Due to this diagnosis, I also needed his help with medical things that I couldn’t do due to isolating and this was also time consuming but not a problem for David. I understand and accept Doctors run late from time to time but in Dr Bakers case, I know that is because he is giving the patient before me the same level of care I receive and for that, I am more than happy to wait my turn. Thorough, caring and compassionate…….David is one of the best at East Sydney for a reason. The staff and supporting nurses etc all exceptional. I have been attending here for almost 5 years and will continue to do so for years to come.

I used to go here until I encountered Associate Professor Marylin McMurchie. She had always been a bit arrogant and dismissive, but was often the only doctor available. In my final consultation with her, she did not let me speak and talked over me when I tried to say something. After making me feel utterly belittled, she then ordered me to stop fidgeting, making me feel even more uncomfortable by speaking to me like a child. She also wanted me to take antipsychotics, giving no reason as to why. I have since gone to Walker Street in North Sydney where I was fortunate to find caring doctors who actually listen. They gave me the medical care that I could not get at this medical centre. The doctors did not understand or agree with the decision to put me on antipsychotics (pharmaceutical kickbacks?) To be fair, Dr Ozer (spelling?) was an extremely caring and dedicated doctor here, but the experience with Prof McMurchie was so traumatising that I am not comfortable coming here again.

Always professional and friendly. Recommended by my previous GP who moved overseas. East Sydney Doctors has specialist GPs who go out of their way to care. I've now been going there for 5 years and never been happier. I have chronic illnesses and Ercel who sees me most is amazing. I see some negative reviews from people who complain about wait times but during this Covid19 pandemic the receptionists have been under enormous pressure. Try and put yourselves in their shoes. The phone ringing non stop from 7 30am til close plus rude people at reception. I have nothing but praise for them and the nurses and pathology unit are also awesome. Rudeness and not thinking about others gets you nowhere!! I've always been fitted in if something is serious. Highly recommend this surgery and would give 10 stars if the option was there ❤❤❤❤

I can't find any benefits or special treats from this private medical centre. Patient is the just money for them This is how I got the Referral from this Medical centre. 1. Meeting GP and get a test- $90 2. Test result meeting- $90 (after the meeting Dr mentioned it he is going to give me the referral anytime) 3. Phone call consultant for 2 mins to get the referral - $90 (I complained and they gave $20 off) Also, I got the phone call from the reception again after a few days, They want to charge again $90 for mystery consultant fees. So I say I didn't have any other consultants then the reception desk girl hung up the phone without any explanations or apology. Seriously, If you want to charity your money to this medical centre! This is the place! Very disappointed!!!

Good clinic incorporating numerous services however not seeming to promote one of the most important ones, mental health. So I continue to be in emotional turmoil to afraid to ask in case I get ignored again. Lots of staff, ironic though as it's rare you are seen at your scheduled appointment time. Generally the doctors are good but an appalling encounter with Dr Janet Kidd made me feel like a waste of time. About five minutes into scheduled 15 minute appointment, she declared 'ive got to go' and I was rushed and hurried along out. All patients especially low income bulk billed should not be made to feel under valued in this way.

this place is about money. and they will play games with your medication until you hand over a late fee or whatever. the mean girls on reception treat you like an idiot. so if I wasn't dependent on them for urgent scripts, I would run but this is an actual nightmare of a place and they will trip you so you pay money. it's all about the money and holding the vulnerable to ransom. As for clinical trials hahahah they use you up and spit you out without bothering to tell you. but they can be as late as they like do what they want... as long as you pay up !!! absolutely disgusting nightmare of a place and the opposite of health care.

It’s such a shame as some of the Doctors are quite good. However I can say this with some certainty……..there are 2 receptionists there that will cost this practice a lot of money with their gutter found attitudes. They think they have more power than God!!! I know of at least 5 people this year who have left that practice because of these girls. And what happened last week to my friend defies belief and she now is going to make this a legal matter. They need to be let go from the practice. It’s disgusting and disgraceful what they did. Please go elsewhere everyone. Your mental health is not worth what this girl will do to you.

I moved interstate where I had a great doctor. They accidentally shredded my paperwork, then made me give my private details publicly, & couldn't find my transferred records from my old doctor, (incompetent). The purpose of me going in there wasn't addressed, & I didn't like the "bedside manner" (or lack thereof), toward my situation, & I didn't appreciate my religious beliefs not being respected, heck I didn't feel respected as a whole. It's all good, I've found a different doctor who does respect me & my religious beliefs.

Well sadly yet another clinic only serves the well to do, I guess who would have thought otherwise in the eastern suburbs. No bulk billing except for pensioners and up to the discretion of the doctor to decide whether you have the privilege even with a health care card. My child has a 39 degrees temperature and there was nothing that could be done for her. Nope, it’s a if you can’t pay you can’t stay policy. I guess we did receive some good advice, go down to St Vincent’s and see how she goes there.

The 5-star review is purely for the fantastic care and communication of Dr Catherine Insley. I had a very positive experience with her, she made me feel very at ease and was clear in her advice and care. She clearly cares about her patients and has great rapport and trust building skills. Unfortunately, the reception staff leaves much to be desired, not necessarily rude, just not very welcoming. I also waited for 30 min past my app time without any communication or warning.

I went to see Dr. Catherine Insley for IUD removal. This lady was absolutely fantastic! She is extremely experienced and knowledgable in womens health and she was so reassuring, calm, understanding of my anxiety and just amazing! I almost did not feel a thing and I felt like she was that experienced and efficient, she could have performed the procedure with her eyes closed. Thank you very much it's so nice to find a great GP who is so caring. Highly recommended.

I've been coming here since the 90's when it was 407 Doctors, seeing David Baker. I love the continuity of having a great doctor overseeing my health for so many years. It's a difficult time for our GPs, when their work has been so consistently undervalued by consecutive Governments in terms of finance and impact. Having a local doctor who knows my name and (copious) history is always re-assuring.

I've had my fair share of dodgy GP's, and finding East Sydney Doctors was a godsend. Every single doctor I have ever seen here has been extremely professional, eager to help and empathetic . This is the first GP where I have had my issues taken seriously. They run late sometimes, but they've always made up for it with appointments that are thorough and not in any way rushed.

I have been going to East Sydney Doctors since the mid 80's! The Practice ensures the most professional, empathetic care I have ever experienced! My long term relationship with my GP there is invaluable! Staff at the Desk are professional and helpful and I have always been able to make appointments when I needed them! I highly recommend the East Sydney Doctors

This is a review about the receptionist. Drs Katherine is fabulous.Called to cancel an appointment and received the most condiscending tone when trying to confirm the time I was allocated. I work in healthcare myself and suggest a more courteous communication, you have vulnerable people accessing this service. It's not difficult to act with kindness.

  • George Smith

Good doctors but administration has been gradually worsening overall experience. Am now forced to pay $35-$95 for a 5 minute prescription refill call? But I cannot go anywhere else to get my refills! I have spent more money in the last year getting East Sydney Doctors to refill my prescription than I have on buying the actual medicine itself!

Dr Hand has been my regular GP since one of his colleagues moved to Scotland. I am very happy with him looking after my general practice needs. I have occasionally needed to see other doctors within this clinic and have never had a problem. In a few short weeks i will be moving 2h away from Sydney, but plan to continue with Dr Hand as my GP.

I needed a cyst cut away on my neck and found this clinic via google search. This is the only GP clinic that I could find in Sydney that has someone who does this procedure in-house. Dr Nicholson performed the excision professionally with zero hassle. I’m very happy to have found this clinic and Doctor and I highly recommend.

I don't usually like giving bad review, but I just really had terrible experience with the receptionist. Extremely rude and sound very dismissive of the question I have asked. To be fair all the patients come here for consultation and better health condition. Please just be a good person and patient, this is not that hard.

  • Annabel Anderson

Appointment for my newborn was declined for an administrative reason because he hadn’t been there before, and we were unable to find an appointment elsewhere (it was declined even despite us explaining that we had no other option). Very disappointed in their lack of care for an infant, wouldn’t recommend.

  • ThisIsMe

Incredible medical centre ! Everyone from the pathologist's to the receptionist's are so kind. Such a cute quirky interior and the the doctors really take the time to listen to you. I travel quiet far out of area and it's completely worth it. Highly recommend !

Attending 407/ESD since 1995. Amazing! I can still remember, after all this time. Excellent, knowledgeable, skilful and caring medical practitioners and nursing staff. Receptionists are very busy, but always helpful and obliging. Thank you.

  • Don Croswell

I've been seeing Janet Kidd for over 20 years. The wait is long and some appointments attract fees. For me totally worth it to have a doctor who cares about my well being. Good doctors are worth anything when you need them.

  • Tim Galvin

Very busy and sometimes hard to get appointments but I've seen 4 different doctors there in the past few years and all have exceeded expectations. Its hard to find a good GP in Sydney and will highly recommend ESD.

  • Anastasia Rossi

Recently started going here, overall I think the doctors are good and very caring however the attitude of the receptionist needs to be improved. I was basically hung up on after making an appointment.

  • Patricia Griffiths

Dr Lisa Strachan is a fantastic Gp. Thorough, comprehensive, knowledgeable, caring and compassionate. I have moved interstate and her care will be greatly missed. Highly recommend.

  • Tomasso Circosta

Doctors are great. Problem is you can’t book them if you have an urgent problem . Since covid, they charge for all phone calls without telling you. Look out it gets pricey.

  • Zoe Rose

Not coming back to this practice after dealing with the reception staff. Talking with 'Jess' might be the worst customer interaction I've had

  • Anthony Watts

Great doctors. Easy to access via public transport
