I was rudely helped by a female Korean worker in her early twenties about 5’2 with black hair. wearing white pants and black t-shirt. I had asked whether she could make a Cortado and she replied, "I don’t know" so I ordered a Latte instead. She assumed I was upset and treated me horribly after being very dismissive when I asked her what the internet wifi was, she pointed at the sign and I further wanted to clarify the wifi link as the only thing available was the password. And she rudely stated in a very rude tone, “We only have one wifi link!”. I let this go, then she turned her music up to a very loud volume expecting me to leave, instead other customers who were studying left. I did not want to engage with her passive aggressive behaviour expecting further unprofessional behaviour, so I did not want to speak to her. A few minutes later a regular older man named Barry, came in and noticed how loud the music was and asked her to turn the music down further stating that “the music is too loud”. I have come a few times to East Village Cafe at 2401 East Hastings Street prior to this ISOLATED horrible experience and honestly will not come back if she is working at this location again! Her unprofessional immature SADISTIC behaviour of turning the music up expecting me to leave and torturing everyone at the cafe is telling of her personality. Her dismissive voice and constant glaring screams psychotic!

The East Cafe is a perfect mix of beautiful service and delicious product. I never really write reviews but this place deserves one. It was my first time at the cafe and the baristas welcomed me into the shop like I was an old friend. I ordered an iced americano with oat milk (my regular order everywhere) except this time it was different, it was different than any iced americano I have ever had, it was amazing, I don’t know if it was the beans they were using or the hands that made it but everything about that drink was just fantastic. The ambiance lends itself to reading a book, or typing away on a project or meeting up with a loved one. It sits on the corner of Hastings and Nanaimo, and peacefully exists there. The interior reminds you of something , nostalgic in a way, wooden flooring and a teal blue espresso machine, The wind flows through the cafe making any hot summer day more relaxed. I’m writing this review while still in the cafe, I’m going to finish my chocolate croissant now, finish this poem I’ve been working on, and thinking about the next time I get to come back to this wonderful space. 11/10! Highly recommend .

East Café has been my go-to place for the past 6 months. The staff, drinks, and music is cozy and welcoming. I always stop for a Spanish Latte on my way to work, and I’m always greeted with a smile (even at 7 am!). Every Thursday they have this “open mic” at around 7 pm for everyone that wishes to play some music or sing. It creates an amazing atmosphere and brings the community together. I started seeing more and more regulars at the cafe which is awesome. Everyone has an amazing attitude and I can think of little to no excuse to visit this cafe regularly.

I refrain from reviewing until I've gotten a feel for a place. This being my second time here, I figure -"why not?". Great atmosphere, with passionate, skilled people. Have a conversation with them! They know their coffee and are more than willing to discuss the technicals. The medium roast used for my black iced americano was very agreeable. Not much citrus, more milk-chocolatey, with some raisin notes, and just enough body. No astrigency or sourness (I find it easier to taste this in iced drinks). Most people would enjoy this. If you're up for something a bit more adventurous, ask if they have a lighter single origin on rotation. An East Van gem.

This niche East Van coffeehouse and eatery caters to all palates and hosts regular events such as art galleries and open mic nights which are popular with the locals. Lattes, iced tea, sandwiches and pastries are delectable and they offer a program called City Smiles that provides a free meal to low-income individuals through customer donations. Ambience is artsy and inviting with a tasteful jazz record playing in perpetuity in the background. Josh, the owner is super-friendly, entrepreneurial and shines. Highly recommend this as a destination for coffee !

I always come here after the gym or yoga and get the turkey cranberry Brie sandwich, and iced mocha, and some kind of sweet pastry. The sandwich is so good, it’s definitely a comfort food for me, and I’ve tried lots of mochas in the city and this place does the best hands down. The vibe is super cozy and friendly, and the old management was great too but the new owners/managers are so welcoming and friendly it really makes me want to spend all day in here reading. The staff seem like they love their jobs and all the plants and ‘thrifty’ things in this shop make it feel like a little community hub. Love this place.

East Cafe is not just a cafe but a wonderful community presence. They participate in a pay it forward local food program for low income community members. The staff are so friendly, and know many of our neighbors’ names by heart. I’ve seen them welcome everyone with kindness, respect, and generosity, many on first name basis! Not to mention the delicious food and amazing coffee/teas. Thank you East Cafe for adding to the vibrancy and community spirit of East Van!

First and foremost, the service here was very good. Some of the best café service I've seen at this level. Just simple hellos, thank yous, and goodbyes with every customer really made this space so inviting. The iced coffee was great and very refreshing. The pop was good and chilled well. I loved the elecktic decor and vibe of this café very much. The art on display was lovely and fostered a sense of creativity throughout the café. Everybody who came with me to the café enjoyed it alot. I will come back in the future.

I stumbled across this cafe as I was killing time in the neighborhood. What a wonderful atmosphere! The baristas were very friendly and helpful, occasionally checking in if I needed something. The jazz played created a soothing mood, one perfect for for working and listening along. I loved the pieces of art work on the wall from local artists--I found it was a nice touch of community. The retro decor was something I haven't seem done in a long time this tastefully! Other stores can come across as trying too hard but I thought it made the vibe perfect. Overall if I'm ever in the area, I'll make sure to visit again.

They've been doing some improvements through the lockdown and the place looks amazing. It's very clean and has even better light now. I ordered a latte and it was just how I like it, very smooth and with no trace of bitter or burnt espresso. It was staffed by only one person today and they were very friendly. I didn't go here for a while after the cafe changed hands a few months ago because they had some kinks to work out, but they're done that and more. If you haven't been in a while, I highly recommend checking it out again! This is a great small, local business who are involved in the community and get to know their customers. Very happy to support them.

I stumbled onto this coffee shop and it deserves a review. The two guys working there provided one of the best services I had seen at a coffee shop. My latte on my first visit was superb with perfect steaming and cappuccino today was truly exceptional. Both occasions they brought coffee to the table which elevated the experience. I had worked in the industry for years and their steaming and service are not easy to replicate. There is unique vibe and positive energy that make this place very special!

I just happened to find this cute cafe by accident walking down the street. Josh the owner gave me the most friendly "Good morning " as soon as I walked in. I was greeted with kindness and felt comfortable right away. I ordered the lumberjack wrap which was delcious and so filling! I love the rustic vibe in here and watched how Josh greeted customers. He seemed like he knew every customer for years! I definitely will be back. Best hidden gem in East Van :) my latte was delicious !

Step into East Cafe and be immediately drawn to the eclectic and rustic atmosphere. Not only do they have a large selection of beverages, their summer special drinks have my heart. They have a great choice of Vegan option for sandwiches (that are simply delicious). Not only is the baristas/cashiers nice, their customer service is sweet and welcoming. Sit and have a latte anytime at this hidden gem!

My absolute favourite cafe In the whole city. If you want to feel like a mysterious main character reading your book and relaxing In a aesthetically pleasing atmosphere this is the place to go. I love their matcha and the pastries and sandwiches are delicious. The only thing I would change is their chai! I used to love it but I think they may have changed powders/concentrate because it is now a bit too spicy and gritty. Overall 10.5/10!!! Never leave please, East cafe <3

This place is always welcoming and cozy. People are friendly, generous and kind. Wandered in one morning before dropping my boy off at school (he was having a meltdown). A complementary mini hot chocolate and cookie from the staff got him sorted and happy to walk to school. Ever since then, I make an effort to plan my coffee meet ups here when ever possible.

It is nice but trashy. The tables are not cleaned. The drinks are mediocre and the service just barely interrupts their conversation to quickly make you drink so they can continue. I did not feel welcomed or able to read my book. Has a feel of a train station. Did definitely not tip, if you expect a tip, please provide service

Probably my favorite cafe in town. The decor makes you feel like your in the breakfast scene of a comfy 60s/90s movie and it uplifts your day. The staff are always great and the owners do an awesome job to make the place inclusive for all walks of life. If in the area of recommend a visit... 10/10 Good place to catch up with yr mum!

Great service, amazing coffee, spacious dining area that still is socially distanced, many alternative options for gluten and dairy, and a nice atmosphere. The only thing on my wishlist would be more food options, but despite coming in late in the day, they still had some delicious meals ready, so no complaints :) Great stuff!
