For a quick cheap and tasty steak you can't beat Cook Hill Hotel if you live close but don't want to go into Cabra for J's Kitchen. The Lamb is good too but I haven't tried the other dishes because I always feel like steak or lamb, never spaghetti at a hotel. That's pretty much the only reason you'd go to Cooks Hill, unless you like free for all karaoke or pokies or are old and like watching sports. Oh, the price went up now too! Instead of $11 it's $12! Update: the price is now $14 for the set menu. At this point I'm either getting lamb, steak or the Rump Steak for $16, which isn't too much of a stretch since the base menu is $14. I'm still not getting spaghetti though. 2023 Update: The place is renovated and nicer looking but the food is now $18. The steak is now chewier so that makes it hard to eat. I had to cut them smaller to finish it. The lamb was still the same though. If you want drinks you need to go next door to the bottle shop as the main hotel is under renovation but you can get a cup of water poured for you.

Recently came to visit here again after the renovations, the fact that the dining area is half the size now is a joke. I understand that they wanted to expand on the gaming area (pokies) because it brings in more money for the venue as the restaurant pays the owner of cooks hill rent so they don’t get profits from the food. However the ONLY reason anyone I know goes there is to get a feed and then maybe a slap on the pokies afterwards. If people want to play the pokies there are many clubs around that can accommodate that. I won’t be attending again given that I had to wait over 30 minutes outside on a weeknight because the place was full, I can’t imagine the wait on a weekend. It has been a while that I have dine in at cook hills. When me and my partner ordered our food we were very disappointed at what we’ve received. The food completely tasted like rubbish and the quantity of the price was not worth it, I remember they would pack a lot of chips, salad fresh with the right amount of dressing and a decent size of meat with a generous amount of your choice of sauce but no we did not received any of that. What we ordered was a medium rare steak and our steak did not taste very pleasant to eat at all, I honestly felt like I was going to throw up, I had a very hard time cutting up my steak because both of our steak was raw, I did not end up finishing it. We had a small portion of chips and their salad dressing was diluted. Absolutely did not enjoy our meal at all

Use to be $10 per plate , then $12, then $14 in a quick session, and they renovated, now its $18. This is a working class area, these prices are not attractive. And when we ordered the mix grill for $24 they wouldnt give us a extra plate if we wanted to share, but they are happy when we asked for a styrofoam box it was $1. If you want water , they will pour you some in a hot cup- which is probably because it came out of the dishwasher but still. And the kitchen hand should start wearing gloves, i saw a worker refilling the tube with the sauce or dressing And he put some back in the bucket with his hands ! Food does taste good though that’s the only good thing now.

I've been coming here for 22yrs and it's still the same. The outlook of the space & room still the place pool table still the same. Table and chairs still the same TV location still the same. Nothing has changed at all. There's an increase of people come in over the years. There's no vision of extending at all, after all these 22yrs people line up but no Table available so they walk out. Wouldn't you like changes to expand more room for more customers. There has to be a system that's runs smoothly just overcrowded. I used to like coming here afew years back now I don't think so. Never had pork chops thought I try something different terrible absolutely dry.

The food was good but I gave the lady 50 dollars and the food was 26.5 dollars and the change was 3:50 dollars. The lady in the kitchen was complaining that I gave her 5 and 10 dollars. The lady was still arguing with me because I know what I gave her which is 50 dollars. She didn’t give me the change back. If you think about it the lady meet hundreds of customers and she have loss of memory. Just be careful from the lady and check what she give you. They stole money from me after I asked for the manager to check the cameras he said no we can’t check it and it have to be the owner of the place. The employment of Benjamin Pham brings great potential to this fine establishment. The employee holds a great future and has more potential than Gordon Ramsay. Sacre bleu that steak was exquisite , it was so unbelievably rare to get medium rare steaks nowadays but this guy gets it. I bet you cows willingly sacrifice themselves knowing that they would be the reason for customer satisfactory. The price may be more or same as J’s kitchen but thou shall not get salt less chips at Cook Hills, thou shall not spend 10-20 minutes on parking at Cook Hills, thou shall not finish a meal whilst still hungry, and that’s all thanks to Benjamin Pham.

I use to like coming here but after I ordered their rum steak which is supposed to be a favourite in their menu, I asked for cooked well done but it wasn’t cooked it was only cooked on the outside on the surface of the meat but the inside was completely full of blood the meat was soo nasty, I could taste how uncooked it was and the service of so bad I was just asking for the man to repeat what he said and he started shouting at me. And when I thought it couldn’t get any worse the chips weren’t cooked some were so raw like I could taste the frozen chips and some were alright but overall I won’t come back.

Bistro food with BAAAD. Rump steak should be called FAT steak with little of meat. You have to pay extra if you want sauce on the side in a tin and not the steak. I ordered the pork ribs and when I was eating it I found a LONG HAIR in it. I took it to the bistro bench and told him and left it on the bistro bench. He couldn't care less. I walked away . Also you have to pay $1 extra for a styrofoam coainter for your food. Forks and knives are for free. All seriousness I would rather make a steak at home than eat at this place. I don't recommend this place. Never going back again.

I took 3 kids with autism here to eat. In the past this place is their favourite place. Since they are autistic, they are very specific on what they use, what they drink etc… I took their bottles from the car inside for them to drink, and the man, appeared to be the owner or person in charge, stopped me from bringing a bottle in. I explained the situation to him and he still didn’t let me bring in just 1 bottle for a distressed kid. He said they sell drinks there and we have to buy. Disgusted. For $11 you can’t complain too much. Its a hit and miss for the quality of steak you get. 60% of the time you get a really nice tasting steak. With that said, quantity always remains the same, portion is plenty for the price you pay for. If you’re looking for cheap steak for a good price, i would recommend this place. Parking is a bit difficult at times as the carpark in front is generally full during lunch and dinner. This place does get packed during christmas break. Food service is fast 90% of the time, get the food within 5mins of waiting from all my experiences.

Regular of this place!!!! For the money , definitely worth it. I happily travel 25-30 mins to have dinners (date nights) here. Perfect for a cheap feed, especially with family as well! Definitely get a bang for your buck here if you love a big and flavoursome meal with an insanely fast service !!! Portion size is massive and it’s seriously cheap ($11 mains). Such a tasty dressing on the salad too (I always get the steak (rump is $2.50 extra but worth it!) Never waited longer than 20 mins after coming here easily 20 times in my lifetime. Give it a go at least once!!

Has one of the best $10 steaks I've tasted. Along with the steak are some chips, and sweet and savoury salad. If you need (iced) water, you have to get it from the bar next to the area where you order your meal. Lines are always long around 7-9pm. Either get there early or late if you don't want to wait. When you can't get the $10 deal, the steak is of course meatier. What you pay is what you get. Still great value though. Also, don't get the spaghetti bolognese. The sauce is terrible.

08/07/2022 at around 4:50pm we came to order steaks and dine in but the rude bar lady came up to our table told and us to go out we couldn’t be in there because we were underage. Half of us are of legal age and have dined in there many times. This is a true disappointment. We ended up getting take away. She even told us to wait outside in the cold weather and only one person could stay to grab the food. Hope you get fired

Reasonable price for the food available. The plates are big and for most plates you get two pieces of meat. Depending on time of arrival, food may taste amazing or alright, for example, dinner time means food is made fresh. The wait was around 5 to 10 minutes max.The ambience is alright, lighting is good and there is music playing in the background. It is located near a bar where you can play keno as well. There is an atm and bathrooms available inside.

Cooks Hill Hotel is now my favourite place to eat and have a beer. Very cheap $10 T-bone steaks with chips and salad. Fastest meals anywhere, ready before I have time to buy a beer. First place I've been where the security guard warmly welcomes you and says goodbye when you leave. makes you feel very comfortable and safe. It's a busy, noisy place, but its warm in winter and friendly. I really like this place and always bring my friends here. Love it!

nice quick food, usually best at night with the younger cooks. purchased 2 steaks ($18 each) with extra sauce ($1.50) for $37.50. i was given the wrong sauce on steak, and told i didn’t order any extra sauce. Delicious food. But told to wait outside after buying myself and my family meals to take home. Hot outside and should be given right to wait inside as I bought something from there. I eventually bought a drink just to stay inside and wait for my meal. Change the policy and find someplace to include patrons buying meals as take away. As we were there before other patrons to make up your max 50 people inside the bar/restaurant.

Cheap feed but a very tiny pub. Friendly staff and reasonably priced beer. Smallest smoking area I have seen, with two permanently fixed tables but no stools. But the gem of this pub and the reason most people go here is the bistro. Majority meals are $10 including large t-bone steaks, chicken snitzchels, fish and chips and pastas to name a few. The quality of the food is quite good and the portions are enormous. Great value.

If you're after a big meal, this is the place to go. The meals were very tasty, and our steaks were cooked to perfection. Quantity over quality If you don't care about the quality of your food, but something just to fill you up for a reasonable price, then this place is for you! As the old adage goes; you get what you pay for. I would suggest that you get your steak well done, as to bypass some of the meat's rottenness; and also have some alcohol afterwards so you don't get sick. There is a bar next to the restaurant for your convenience.

I liked it there but didn't love it. The food is delicious, servings large, cheap and came out fast. The venue itself isn't all that great. The tables are small and you need to walk upstairs to go the toilet. The toilet isn't that big a deal but I'd prefer it to be close to where we were eating. Maybe it's to help smash the calories after such a big meal. The hotel is good for a value, run of the mill family dinner.

From what I remember 8 years ago, I revisited this restaurant again with a friend and it did not disappoint. If you’re looking for a quality steak-not the best steak, but for for the price it’s definitely great value-then Cooks Hill is your place. Quick dine in and out no fuss. Order at the window, receive a buzzer, and collect once ready. I’d choose this over J’s Kitchen located not too far away in Cabramatta.

Ordered the rump steak - medium rare with mushroom sauce. Unbelievably surprised. The steak was lean, full flavoured and was a good value for money. Price was reasonable as the steak had additional complimentary sides such as a salad and chips. Totally worth. Waiting time was quick. Service staff was quick. They get things done. The only downside is why i don't live near here as the location is a bit far.

Absolutely terrible at following instructions on their orders. Have 2 seperate orders to take away which they messed up. Ordered the T bone steak and asked for mushroom gravy but they gave me only gravy sauce instead. The second time I asked for mushroom gravy and they forgot the sauce all together. Stay away from the lady in the kitchen! She was absolutely unprofessional! Got my medium rare turned into a well cook. The meat was super dry and couldn't swallow it. Showed that lady the piece of meat they just cooked and she said I ate most of it when I only had not even half. Not even an apology! They really need to change staff or this business is going to die slowly!

The absolute worst! The quantity of food is definitely there for $11, however I took two bites into my steak and about to cut into my third piece until I discovered a strand of hair! I tried to ignore it until I found another strand of hair on my chips. Sadly, I had to convince myself that I was full when in reality I was just turned off and couldn't eat anymore! Never coming back here again!

The quality of the food here has dropped so much… last six months of coming here my food was either over cooked, or too salty. They always burn my garlic bread and the portions have gone smaller. Ordered snitzel with salad and chips. Found a live crawling German roach crawling through my salad. Took it back, no offer for a refund, just a replacement will never come back again. Super disappointed as I used to love this place. If you can see 1 roach, that means there are 100s hiding. Disgusting. Cleanliness is obviously not a priority.

Overall, this place is ok. I bought T-bone steak for $12, include salad, sauce, chip and steak. The good point is the food taste fine, you can buy beer at the front too. Negatives: sauce is not hot, steak is overcook, we ordered 4 steak, 2 medium and 2 medium rare, and it all came out as medium to medium well. The service team was not nice as well.

The food is usually good and well priced. Great for a quick bite to eat at a good price. Unless you like the sound of poker machines in the background the ambience isn't great. Ordered a well done steak - and it was like eating rubber. Basically took a few bites and binned the rest....I really doubt the quality of theie steaks. Chips and salad was spot on - with large portions. I dunno if having the steak medium rare is any better. If you want a quality steak I would avoid this place - or maybe try the fish and chips

Cheap and NOT nasty! Succulent and tender T-bone steak served on a bed of crispy hot chips and salad. The steak sauce comes in a variety of pepper or creamy mushroom. Just thinking about it makes my mouth water. For a awesome night out with family amd frienda that doesn't break the budget, I would highly recommend eatinh at this place.

Always good and cheap, come here frequently in the last 12 years, this is the first place for steak, then there is another one j kitchen, one more in mt pritchard, but this place is always number 1 in my opinion. Price has changed from $10 to 11 and now $14.

I was here for the steak. It just so so, not standout, but not bad either. The price is a little bit cheaper than J's Kitchen in Cabramatta. Ok to have dinner and a couple of beer with friends at this place. However, parking could be a problem, and you might have to queue as the dining space is small.

BEST STEAKHOUSE I EVER BEEN TOO SO FAR! Only $12 and you get a massive t bone steak, pork chop or lamb chop with a choice of Mushroom, Diane or Normal Gravy with a salad and chips. But DIANNE GRAVY IS THE BEST SAUCE.

Good friendly quiet “local” pub to have a beer and catch up with mates. Friendly Bar staff with a sense of humour. Bistro offers usual ‘pub meals’ (good value and size) and is popular in the area.TAB facilities are located in adjacent premises. Parking limited but street parking is accomodating.

This kitchen is still serving their $11 menu items but failed to menu that it's now $18. The website still has it as $11. The quality of the food was ok at best. Chips were dry and the steak, pork chops were definitely of $11 quality and not $18. For $18 you can get better steaks elsewhere.

Great place for a cheap and basic meal (steak/fish/chicken/pork chop with chips and salad). Nice and quick with no nonsense but definitely not a place to go if you want something fancy. Everything tastes fantastic and the servings are huge so make sure to bring a big appetite.

Great feed with large portions of quality meals for $10. Chicken, steaks, pastas etc... Comes with salad, chips and gravy of your choice. Comes out in about 10 mins or less, and that was for 4 meals! Great service from both bar staff, bistro staff and the security guard too!!!

Well cooked steak and crunchy chips (oil tasted somewhat old). Schnitzel isn't that great (always tastes a bit bland here). Service was good and food came out reasonably fast. Definitely worth it if you can’t be bothered to cook that night and want a decent filling meal.

Food is really good and at a great price, I had Surf and Turf w/ Rice and Salad. Medium rare. I would definitely get Rare next time as I was a bit tough for medium rare other than that it was lovely .

The bistro has $11 steak with chips and salad in huge portion, which is great value for money. There is no table service so you have to order and collect food at the counter. Food is usually out in 5 minutes.

As far as counter pub meals go. I wouldn't recommend. There are better places for the same price. Barra meant to be grilled, was deep fried, lamb chops looked the same under the gravey.
