Understaffed in general every time I go there. A few registers appear to be permanently closed. Registers with those "use other registers" signs on the conveyor belt while two or three staff members seem to be just chatting away while there. I do realise that staff can be counting money, training staff etc. Opening other registers would surely alleviate some of the customer wait times this causes would it not? Some of what used to be regular customer service registers have been converted to self service. Staff are standing around these watching people ring up their groceries when logically these registers would have been more efficient if left as regular customer service registers. Customers on self service registers can take longer to ring up their own groceries and they can find things have been rung up twice if they leave it on the tray "too long" and have to have it fixed up. Some newer self serve customers who are unfamiliar with the procedure can also find it unpleasant (and dont want to do it ever again btw). So all this makes for these lines being slower. People have gone all the way home before they realised things had been rung up twice on the self service register. They then have to come back to get it fixed. I had been waiting a particularly long time to be served this day. I never have that many groceries. So while looking around at all of the usual above-mentioned scenarios, I noticed my checkout operator was very slow while serving the people ahead of me. I was noting the lines coming behind me too. This operator appeared to be going slow in a passive-aggressive kind of way. All the while she had a smirk on her face. Perhaps staff have to meet "customer frustration kpi's" and/or they get paid bonuses for creating the longest lines. Businesses want people to go "self service" so even more staff can be sacked of course, including possibly the person at the register serving me. I realise that the staff may be being manipulated and have to do as they are told to keep their jobs, the same as anyone else basically. They are not necessarily brought "into the loop" with the ruthless profit motive of the business owners. They could be having their own personal issues as well and want to show it. The diminishing levels of civility, customer service and general unprofessionalism is often a business strategy known in the corporate world as "customer training". Meaning "training" people into believing the low standards of service, being ripped off, low quality goods, shoddy workmanship etc, is "acceptable" and even "necessary for the greater good" ie: making the wealthy wealthier. In other words, lowering the bar as far as they can get away with while maintaining their huge profits. Capitalism is the other pandemic and a malignant cancer on the world.

I'm a local there, but geez some rude staff working there, such as the fat ugly woman at customer service(think her name is Alison,if im not mistaken) absolutely no greeting with customers, just throws things (i buy cigarettes)at u like we are animals getting fed (I wouldn't even throw stuff at my dog like that) she needs to be treated at a mental hospital herself, never smiles always cranky. The store is always filthy, especially if u come early morning, rubbish and filth in every single aisle absolutely unhygienic.....speaking of unhygienic, the bakery department never wear gloves or use utensils to make/pack their fresh bread's etc made at store, they grab with their bare hands and package them, God knows where those filthy hands have been, so I never buy my bakery needs from that coles. Bread/cakes etc can't be washed people, so put on gloves or use utensils, meat that gets washed those people wear gloves but bakery department never use gloves....even the bakery manager is really rude, never willing to help her customers and the old ladies that work in that department too. I avoid shopping here much anymore.

Re: Nepean Square Penrith Coles Horrible customer service. Gurjit was on a power trip and gaslighting customers using the self service facilities. With threats to refuse purchase to customers and made stories I called him names. Your store has made self checkout for a reason and customers are trying to comply with this. I have never felt so abused and harrased in public. After a long stressful day at work this encounter has driven me off the edge. Thank you coles for the horrendus staff you put in your front line of customer service.. if you claim to have a policy that bulk items need to be done first you need to put a clear disclaimer at the self checkout area and if your staff alledge its a store policy staff need to put it in for you also put that clearly for customers. Your night staff are intimidating and harrasing. As a woman with mental health issues your staff Gurjut has made it worse. Thank you for the horrible experience. I will think twice before going to that store or any coles for that matter. nepean square penrith coles night staff need to be retrained.

I *use* to do most of my shopping here, and left because of how busy it got. I tried going back today, and omg it's become so cramped with no space to move, that it's a really unpleasant experience to shop here. Im confused about the amount of empty packing trolleys in the isles that in no way reflects the empty shelves it leaves you wondering are they just using the isles as storage?? Just to chase customers away... well it's working... What ever the case, it is a reflection of the poor & archaic Managment practice at this store. Maybe Coles could benefit from some fresh inspiration to clean that stores act up. My recommendation- GO ELSEWHERE, IN FACT ANY WHERE ELSE than here. Its uncomfortable, cramped and uninspiring to say the least... I know I will be heading straight back to Woolies!!!

Shopping here has really gone downhill, it's still my local so what can you do, but I'd warn people to be careful with their whole chicken purchases as the drip mechanism doesn't seem to be working properly meaning that if any of the bags leak all the chickens are sitting in a pool of congealing chicken blood. you could end up cross contaminating your entire shop, not to mention if your chicken isn't 100% sealed you could get a nice dose of food poisoning. The person that contacted me said that it's usually better handled it's just that I did my shop before the butchery staff started, which meant all those bags were sitting in congealing blood overnight. Frankly though I go there many times and this seems to be a constant issue regardless of the time.

Just there at 2057 hrs Thursday 27 October 2022. Waiting for ages at the service desk. I will call it a no service desk because nobody was there to serve. There were staff members wandering around elsewhere in the store, like a couple in the self checkout area. I left without getting what I wanted and I am going to Woolworths instead because at least I know I can get a soda stream gas cylinder there. My point is, if customer service is how your business survives then the service desk always needs to be attended. And hey, you don’t need to employ anyone in the self-checkout. If you don’t trust us to scan our own stuff and pay properly, then you should probably bring back actual checkouts. I made it a 1-star review to get your attention.

  • Abbey Riley

Shop here every week, too many groceries to be done at self checkout. Asked for assistance and a girl named “ Chantelle” came over. She yelled at my partner for putting less than 6 items in the slot and told him not to put them there. When he asked where she would like she said she’d open a conveyor belt. When I said “ that would be lovely” she then began to yell at me to get out. When I yelled back stating I’m the customer and that she should lower her tone, she refused customer service. Chantelle is always rude, displays that she is incompetent by refusing customer service, abusing customers and is always observed doing everything but her job. Her employment should be reconsidered.

  • lrts

Lovely young man on front counter, delightful staff in store. A manager, I think, deviated from where he was going to personally take me to the aisle I required. Aisles may have signs up, but NOT all items in that aisle are listed, which means you can walk aimlessly around each store unless you enlist the help from staff. Once you familiarize yourself with the store, don't get too complacent, because when you go to a different store and the layout has changed and you have to start all over again. At least on this occasion I had courteous staff available and willing to guide me, which isn't always the case.

  • KHARMA GEE

Went there wednesday 22/12 at about 845pm to avoid Christmas rush. Lots of customers however only 2 checkout operators! Stood in queue for over 10mins when checkout girl looked up saw the queue said "im closed " The second checkout the guy was so slow had only served 1 customer in the time i in line for the girl, he was too busy chatting to customer! Meanwhile....more fed up customers waiting to be served lining up. Complaint made to management.... the reply... Its not our fault...well ive news for you... if you are in management... it Is your fault!! Because its certainly not the customers!

  • Chris

The new reality is the bigger the company the more they can get away with. have customers waiting in huge lines because the place is completely understaffed they cover the original price of a product with the deal price so you don't actually know how much the product costs unless you move the tag away and sometimes there's no deal at all it's simply a tag says sale so I'll be giving it one star no well we all let this happened the nobody seems to notice that we are losing the human touch and sooner or later Coles in the other big companies will make all the rules

  • Benjamin Thame

Everyone is fed up with the self service cash registers. When you go to Coles there is only two cash registers with staff open. The lines are just getting longer. The price of items which people purchase includes staffing costs! Is Coles going to remove staffing costs from the purchased products if they use self serve registers? I think not. What's worse is the fact that Coles and other retailers buy these self service checkouts and claim them on tax! The tax payers of Australia are supporting retailers putting their staff off!

  • Daniel Lee

Really disappointed with the service here. To the older lady who was doing the closing call and then walking the aisle to tell people to hurry up, you need to rethink your career in retail and working with customers. Amazing how the customer service at Coles Penrith Plaza is actually welcoming and inviting, where as at the Coles penrith nepean centro store, you are being told to hurry up and leave. If your store closes at 11, it closes at 11 and not 10:50. I have worked retail and I still greet clients until the door closes.

  • Meltdown By Kyle

We went on a Sunday and it was pretty busy. There was stock getting put on shelves in nearly every aisle, so there were quite a few empty shelves. Worse than the fact that there were trolleys in every aisle was that there were empty boxes all over the place and because it was so busy people were running into things and waiting for stock to be put on shelves. The guy that packed my groceries must have been new so this in no way directed at him but it was a pretty average experience paying higher prices for everything.

Coles Penrith is a neat clean store that has recently had an upgrade of equipment. New self-serve fast area & self-serve checkouts for the larger shops. The old 12 items or less aisle now self-serve shop for easy staff assist (integrated into Front of House area) Friendly staff (excluding 1) watch over to make sure all runs smoothly, with some jumping on checkouts during peak times. Stock a bit of an issue early evening when supply has run out and shelves aren't refilled as it's too early.

  • Kieron Benstead

Great placement of stock easy to find items go Coles brand where it's not an issue as we all love main rands with Milo Cornflakes Tim tams one bread Energizer batteries Quilton toilet paper $11 for 20 rolls Flora butter spreadable Primo shaved ham ETA bbq sauce HP sauce fountain steak sauce Magi 12 pack of chicken or beef noodles $10 solo zero 24 cans 30 cans 4 packs of mother large cans $8 Mildura tropical juice $4 2 litres bulla sour cream youplait yoghurt Carmelo Cadbury ice cream

I was shopping this morning 23rd June. Mask are mandatory. So a young worker was wearing no mask in the self serve section , out of curiosity I asked why they are working with no mask they had a medical reason.ok fare enough. But what got me was they kept wiping their nose on their hand then proceeded to wipe shopping basket down to "kill germs". Same cloth every basket and with the hand this person wipe their nose on. Unsafe covid standards

  • Sidney Ryrie

I love Coles and not just because it spreads its cheeses all over the shop in 4 discrete locations. No, I love it coz it sells sweet chilli tofu nuggets but no door snakes. That was a disappointment but 'let us not reach for the stars, Freddeh, we'll always have Paris'. That last was a truly egregious attempt at Bette Davis in, I think, 'Now Voyager'. Now, having listened my fill to it not-raining, this is Ripley signing off.

  • Tiffany Smith

Worst customer service by Kara assume store manger and her 2 blonde minions…. Made me fell very unwelcome stood behind me when getting served by a lady spoke about me. To the point I bit my tongue to not ask them what was their problem. I felt bullied. I was doing my weekly shop I will not be returning this is not the first time these 3 have done this …. How she is a manager is beyond me must like to promote bullies .

  • Jason Lord

Jordan Springs store is new with some parking outside, looks about 150 spaces, as part of the neighbourhood shopping center. Staff were friendly, aisles were clean and easy to navigate, stock lines were as expected for Coles. Whether it is or not, it feels like a small store. This review was originally for the Jordan Springs store but Google decided to change it for some reason.

  • Perry Mitchell

The store is dated and in need of a freshen up to keep your shopping experience a positive one. Narrow isles especially near the fridge area, can only fit 2 trollies just. This store is always busy and can be not a pleasant shopping experience due to the crowds and long lines to exit the store. Best plan your shop for early arrival to get in and out prior to the crowds arriving.

  • the Poetic Doctor

Lovely store .... convenient location next to Kmart 24h The size is decent and heaps of parking spots. ....... The setting might vary from other Coles store, slightly, but generally speaking it is a Coles store after all I never had any trouble with the staff and never witnesses any incidents/accidents I also recommend this place and hope that you will enjoy it as well as well

  • Kyliee Elaine's

Never in my life have I been embarrassed like how I was about 30 minutes ago at this store a staff member had yelled and treated me like a thief for a common error witch I acknowledge right away and fixed as I was busy on business phone calls and Incoming calls coming in at the time will not go back to a store we're they get the whole stores attention to embarrass you

  • Mikayla Souter

Staff are rude and think they are better than anyone else and they abuse the customers and think they can get away with it prices are higher then another coles never again will I go back there after the way I got treated by the staff member filling up the coles as at the self serve machines today she needs a reality check that she's not better than anyone else.

  • Tanya Spisiakova

Saturday 9.30pm. I bought $375 worth of groceries, which I had to scan and load in bags myself while two staff were watching me making sure I did not miss scanning a single item! When I asked, was told it was normal not to have serviced checkouts at this time of the day. This way my last time shopping in this store, paying premium price for no customer service.

  • sean Croxen

I prefer a person serving me, give people jobs, I already have a job, I don't need an extra one serving myself, or being forced to take a full trolley of groceries through what was once a 12 items or less fast check out with no conveyors. I have changed my habits and now shop elsewhere for 99% of shopping trips. If you change I change.

  • Mick Harrison

They have added heaps of self serve check outs. There are no staff operated checkouts in the early evening. I abhor self serve checkouts, they are slower and a nuisance. Also, it is near impossible to find staff for assistance, they are shopping for online or blocking aisles to repack shelves at peak times. Not happy at all.

  • Click Clack

We are currently in a pandemic and this Coles couldn't be bothered to have wipes to wipe dirty, sticky trolleys or hand sanitizer to help stop the spread of germs. Lazy workers and lazier management. What an awful experience. Head office will be notified that this store is helping to spread the virus and not preventing it.

  • Rodney Green

Coles is so expensive Been ages since I went to a Coles (Penrith - Nepean square) The store was dirty and messy No check outs except self service The prices much more expensive than our IGA Blueberries $6 Cadbury chocolate “on sale” for 2 for $9 A Month ago it was on special for $3 They are just ripping people Off

  • Greg Rowe

I have been purchasing sliced ham from the deli over the past month at this store and on 3 occasions the ham is going off and slimy within 3 days of purchase. i am getting fed up with poor quality products from the deli. no point refurbishing Coles if you can't sell fresh produce. A response would be appreciated.

  • S R

Besides greens and berry fruits this is a good collection of most varieties. Self checkouts are convenient and wait is minimum to zero. Ample parking with 2 rows of covered parking available. Frozen section is good, there's a Coles bakery and livestock as well as fish market inside. Liquorland is next door …

  • Patricia Loiacono

Went to the penrith store, workers huddled up in the middle of the lane having a meeting or something , no social distancing! They didn’t even move so I could get through! hand wash at entrance of store not offered! It just seemed that they really didn’t care to much about distancing or safety this morning .

  • Mohamed Hallani

Extremely busy, however stock levels are good and I was able to find irregular items easily. Ive noticed they are more expensive than usual though. If I didn't have to go to K-Mart I'd have gone to the new Coles in Glenmore Park rather than Nepean Square as it is a much nicer store and it is also less busy.

  • Scott Thorpe

A good Coles to go into. They have a good range products at reasonable prices. I just wish they would stop moving products around all the time and making things confusing to the point you have to go to the front desk to find out where things have been moved. All up a good place to go shopping for groceries.

  • Gary Steele

Shelves are empty cleaning gear especially paper towels empty not enough staff at checkouts. Want take their jobs away also using brown paper bags is a disgrace will bring watchdogs involved if they don't get their act together staff losing their jobs for a machine us a joke. UN Australian company.

  • Sue Gurling

I shop here every week but it is a challenge. Parts of the store are difficult to navigate, narrow aisles - especially in fruit & veg & chilled areas. Their fresh produce is inconsistent in quality. And the parking is always an ordeal. On the plus side, some lovely staff, good product selection.

  • Kim Ford

Always have what we need and very pleasant. Last Saturday my 94 year old mother lost her wallet and Coles staff could not have been nicer. Not only did they know that a wallet had been found but directed me to the security office that resolved the problem. Wonderful careing people thank you.

  • Wick3dButt Nic3

I was waiting in self checkout with small basket of groceries Tamekah spotted me from the service counter ,came over and directed me for her to serve me It was very busy at the time Tamekah went above and beyond very professional and gave me exceptional service I look forward in returning

  • Judith Baker

Sunday 6.30pm one checkout open. Better to use selfservice.Lets put more people out of work.Still paying top dollars for groceries. @N0 SERVICE. When will the public STOP using selfserve so stores r forced to bring back customer service.l for one never use selfservice.!!!

  • Marcus Brown

Overpriced and understaffed and a number of staff have really poor customer service and values, other Coles stores are much better! Price checks are pointless... and sometimes they won't cut a chicken for you but would rather make up false policies so they don't have to.

  • Andrew mw Brown

staff were very helpful. friendly. considering the strain the staff must be under every day with this virus threat they are a credit to Coles and in my opinion should have there efforts rewarded by the management... thanks to the staff. regards Andrew Brown........

  • Brian Sanders

I know a lot of people like self-service at the checkout but not me. I find the ladies (and occasionally fellas) at the registers to be unerringly courteous and cheerful. The interactions provide a welcome addition to otherwise largely isolated times.

  • Rhys Mannering

5* The new self serve conveyers are so much less finicky than the old ones and make it finally possible to do your own check out and not pay with your sanity. Edit: now 1* cos zero of the conveyers are open and no-one on service desk to complain to.

  • Anne Elliott

Would be nice if you answered the phone. I've left my steel drink bottle by accident with the milk or self service checkout. Would appreciate getting it back. I've rang several times not engaged just no one picked up and no answer service

  • Duncan Swanborough

Shopping ok, checkout very slow. Not enough registers open. Check specials pricing, the shelf price doesn't always reflect on the register. Overcharged $10 today but noticed it and got my money refunded. Worth checking though;!

  • Tracey French

I ordered two fruit platters from the deli, and they were fantastic! Thank you to the team that put it together, they even put in a couple of chocolate dips. It was generous, price was great and so was the quality. thank you, T

  • KW Hamilton

It’s your run of the mill Coles. They’ve recently expanded their self service register area and introduced larger self serve registers for those people who want to process their whole trolleys worth of groceries themselves

  • Chris Mousley

Recent refurbishments have improved in store experience including longer self seelrve trolley lanes. However the range is limited with many skus deleted. This causes frequent out of stocks for regular items too.

  • vadermarvel

Are we still in a pandemic ? With your bare dusty shelves. Extra points for the macho trolley crew who just suffocate customers on both sides of the aisle and don't even upload the stock. Get it together thanks

  • Sheryl Thompson

It has everything you need, it's just really sqeasy around the bakery, deli and seafood and cakes and biscuits and fruit and vege area, it's all squashed into one corner of the store, pricing is ok.

  • Rachel Buck

Free parking that's a plus .Store generally clean shelves a bit empty self checkouts always available .Located inside Nepean Squat with Miller's,KMart butcher fresh veg Coffee Club to name a few

  • mustafa altuncu

Coles is great in general but one of the lady at the check out, jen, is especially an awesome customer service specialist. She's always smiling and helpful. She's the reason why we keep go back.

  • Amber Hain

They don’t answer the phone, you could try dining 100 times and they won’t answer. I’ve accidentally let me toilet paper at the self service check out and would be helpful if they could answer.

  • Matthew Cragg

Needed to organise a bulk order through these guys. Donna was so helpful and went beyond and above to help us with their bakery crew. Absolute gems they are. Outstanding service. …

  • paige carter

They have 3 out of 20 registers open on New year's Eve Eve at 5pm. I've been waiting 15 minutes just to pay for my items which are cold meat , dairy and frozens. Probably not any more!!

  • R T

Pretty big store with a decent range, although some lines were slightly depleted post-xmas. Easy outdoor parking, I prefer coming here than heading into Westfield's for groceries.

  • Blake B

Friendly and very helpful staff. The store is clean and easily accessible. Would like it to be open 24 hours along with the Kmart next door for those 2am snack runs!

  • Nicholas Hintz (xXBROTHERFOXx)

Good just . Could be a little more organised with markdown . And stock rotation so items are not so close to expiry date /use bye. ... But still good. I love coles

  • India

very spacious and neat. never seen a neater coles. much better than the nearby kmart. no book section but I can forgive that. very easy to navigate unlike kmart

  • Nathan Roy

Usual items, staff are nice, busy at the usual times. Security guard is useless, few people walked out with food without paying. He was worried about his hair.

  • Debra Ring

Horrible layout. Pricing labels missing on too many shelves to count. Products put in wrong sections. Not a pleasant shopping experience. Not ever going back.

  • Sisi Harrison

Staff are very friendly and very helpful. Made me feel I wasn't a bother asking questions... Unlike other stores can do. So happy Coles is now closer to me

  • John Donicade

Since opening definite slide in standards. Gaps on shelves, cleanliness dropped. Staff fewer although the service is still very good. Prices competitive.

  • ronda mccartin

Very hard to find staff when you need help without having to go to the front desk or registers. Store is clean though and not cluttered which I like.

  • Rebecca Ardesch

Always have plenty of stock and great specials. Customer service is fast and efficient. Can get very busy at times and aisles are a little narrow.

  • william haile

Was e mailed instructions for pick and collect for a Perth store not penrith. Absolutely deplorable service. Still trying to get my groceries.

  • Chantelle Hansen

Popped in after dinner to grab some groceries and was pleasantly surprised at how clean and how quiet it was at 1930, staff were friendly.

  • Suzanne Goldsmith

No issues here. Easy access to the store within the centre. I purchased 4 items and three were on special - can't complain about that.

  • Shaune Thompson

Prices are way too high, like everywhere though. The new self serve isle’s are good, do your own thing and get out of there.

  • Kevin Thompson

Went downhill lately. Camera filming you when you check out. No worker on a check out. Hate what Coles have become.

  • Tony Burrell

I find my shopping bill is increasing, the store itself is always well stocked and staff is friendly.

  • Janet Sheen

Coles is a great shop with quality food and many specials and has many shops in the village as well.

  • A S

Great place to shop if you want to be accused of stealing by an “undercover” security guard.

  • Louie L

I only go to this place because I live in the area ... It's got its charm but eh …

  • Noel Davidson

Very clean, plenty of options, great variety, very easy to find what I wanted

  • lisa moses

The largest range in coles I have EVER seen. Why aren't more coles like this?

  • Rio Thompson

NEED TO CHANGE OPENING HOURS ON GOOGLE ! THEY DO NOT DISPLAY CORRECTLY

Been the next door shop for almost everything in routine groceries.
