We stayed at Hither Hills for a week in August, 2018. Check-in was efficient, and we were shown to our site by a staff member. The main road into the park is paved, but all other roads are broken asphalt or gravel. We had a site in the back part of the campground, which was away from the road and very quiet. The site was gravelled and level, and included a paving stone patio. The 30A hydro worked great (no blown breakers). Water pressure was adequate. There is no cable provided, but we managed to get 12 over the air digital channels. The Wi-Fi was spotty and slow. The pool was pleasant and clean, but was close to the road, which is very noisy. Playground equipment was old, and my kids had no interest in playing on it. While the staff appeared to be doing their best to keep things neat, the grounds are tired looking and in need of some sprucing up. Overall, you would not go here as a destination in itself, but its location, both in proximity to major highways, and to popular attractions in Ottawa, makes it an ideal home base if you plan to sleep here and spend most of your time exploring the city. Bank St. (old Hwy. 31) has an abundance of services nearby, including gas and diesel, grocery store, Canadian Tire, LCBO, and various restaurants.

Called in at about 5:20pm to reserve a site if they had one available for a couple nights. We have an F250 and 38foot 5th wheel. Our call lasted 48 seconds where the conversation went like this: Campground: Yes [answered in a way that sounds like my calling was an inconvenience] Me: Hello, how are you this evening? Campground: Fine. Me: I am wondering if you have any sites available for a couple nights starting this evening? Campground: Well I guess. [Awkwaed silence] What are you in? Me: 38 foot 5th wheel pulled by an F250 Campground: I guess. Maybe. It depends, where are you at? Me: This side of Montreal. Little less than 2 hours from you. Campground: Well you're leaving it late eh? It gets dark you know. You're late. Me: [Flabbergasted] yes, we're arriving from PEI and didn't want to book until we knew when we might arrive given traffic through Montreal. Campground: Nope, that's too late for me. Click. He hangs up on me. No manners, no pleasantries. Kind of gruff, hung up on me and definitely seemed I was an inconvenience for calling.

Hither Hills was a TERRIFIC place for us to camp last year, while working in Ottawa - we were there from June to park closing in October 2018. The location was perfect for us - close to our work and with most amenities within 10-15 minutes. The lots were big and easily accommodated our 45’ coach. Mike was GREAT ... always accommodating and helpful. The 50-amp power and services worked perfectly and anything that needed attention, was addressed quickly. Although not a lot to do at the park itself, we made great new friends and sincerely enjoyed the clean and peaceful setting. Wifi was new and worked quite well except during extreme heavy use periods. No question, this will be our ‘home base’ anytime we need to be in Ottawa.

We have stayed for many months at Hither Hills, over several summers. We think it is the best campground for anyone wishing to visit Ottawa. Because it is outside the city core, it is easy to get to any part of the city whilst avoiding rush-hour traffic, which can at times be terrible. While this campground is a bit on the rustic side, it has everything from tent sites to lots of fully serviced sites, including many with 50-Amp electricity. Most of the sites are roomy. Some of the sites are not perfectly level, but each year improvements are being made. The park is well-treed. It is a short drive to major shopping and a large city bus terminal with parking. The folks that run and own the park are a bit quirky, but if you are friendly towards them they will be friendly towards you.

We get there to have a nice parking spot for our RV while were going in town and go at the Blues-Fest. We have been nicely welcome with a Bilangual Sevices in French and English. They have large and long super nice 30 Amp 3 services lot (my Fifthwheel is almost 35 ' and it fit perfectly) and even if it was close to the main road it was super quiet. The pool was well maintain and not overcrowded like some other place. The personel was really good with us for everything so we really want to recommand this Campground if your looking for a nice spot near ottawa !

An oasis just south of the city of Ottawa very close to the downtown core 15 or 20 minutes depending on traffic, making it easy to get to all amenities including Rideau Carleton race track, Rideau Canal, Hospitals, Shopping, Parliament Hill, Museums. Campground is Big Rig friendly and Stinson Propane/Diesel near by has easy access and lots of room to turn around. Only minutes to 2 RV dealerships, if you need repairs. We saw many improvements including a laundry room, new sites with pull through and back-in for the largest rigs and while we were there Ottawa Hydro installed new transformers for the new sites and the older part of the park. We will definitely stay here again.

We camped here in early April and the staff was very accommodating even though they weren't fully open for the season. We were even treated a tour in their golf cart to see all the updates they were making to the grounds (Burm to dampen Hwy sounds in the front ring, new large and luxurious 50 amp sites, new laundry building and a dog run area for us to use for our pups). Our site was large, well kept and the wifi connection which we really appreciated as we are both freelancers. The campground is close to the city and amnenities. We would definitely stay here again when visiting the Ottawa area.

As a new comer to the area with a 25 ft travel trailer in tow, I was on the hunt for a RV site. After checking out 2 previous sites and being told they were all filled up, I called Hither Hills and was hoping to get better results. The man in the office that took the call started out friendly but as our communication continued, he became very rued . I am not quite sure what caused this response but I know that my actions were completely respectful. Here is a heads up to anyone calling for information regarding this campsite, maybe this is the real reason this campsite has empty spots!

I rolled in exhausted after hours of driving, pushed the bell sign as per the note, and got yelled at! He said, "who sent you, so I can wring their neck". Then he mocked and insulted me. MY RV is a tiny Boler so i needed 110 amp but they dont offer it. Showers are coin operated on top of my rediculous 68.00 a night!!! no firepits, rediculous. Toilet paper is not even 1 ply, translucent confetti paper. The site is just an overpriced parking lot. Steer away, travelers.

I was stranded in Ottawa with my partner and mom, we had no place to stay. Called the campsite as we were just trying to find something anywhere and mass calling places. The woman who answered the phone was extremely rude, we called around 11pm and she made a big deal about it. If you don't want people calling after a certain time maybe it should be written or you should remove your personal number. Also refused to help us in any way. If you're stranded and desperately need a place to stay you'd be better off pitching your tent on the side of the road.

Options of pull through or back in sites. Laundry on site is clean. Washrooms could use a little TLC, but everyone with an RV all have their own. The RV sites have cement pads for you table and or chairs. The swimming pool is a good size and is clean. There appears to be a group site with a large dog run available, or maybe that’s tent sites. Nice and close to a mall and 25 minutes from Ottawa museums. Yes mike is a little gruff on the phone, but quite the character in person! Glad we stopped and would definitely recommend this campground!

This park is conveniently located just south of Ottawa, making for easy access into the city. It is also big rig friendly, which is not always the case here in Ontario. The park has nice grounds, spacious sites, and is very quiet. We especially appreciated the concrete patio by our door. The laundry was well equipped and the dog run is always an appreciated feature. Family owned and operated. Thanks!

Nice location in the rural area just 15 minutes from downtown Ottawa. The park, however, has very little in the way of working amenities. They advertise wifi, but it does not work. The water pressure was so low that we had to use our internal water pump. The sites are gravel and a mix of back in and pull through. Our site was a pull through and was very long but narrow. See our updates, full reviews and pictures at our blog at thegilliamsisland.

Just spent a weekend there and had a great time! All staff were very friendly and helpful and I would go back to this campground in a second!! Water pressure was the best I have ever encountered in campground! A bag of firewood comes with some news paper to get the fire going! It's good dry wood and I didn't even need to chop it into kindling! The wifi was poor but other than that it was a great stay!!

We just left Hither Hills today after 5 days. We are returnees from Nova Scotia. The campground is family owned and they take pride in their property. On going maintenace is evident . In this passed year we saw a new area developed which is wonderful. Great space between sites . Tables can be easily adjusted to your space. It is easy to leave there and visit beautiful Ottawa ..pool is very clean and big enough.

  • Sly TheJoy

Wow... just got off the phone with the least enthusiast employee. I called to get information during office hours and I felt like I was bothering him. My question was simple: Is either the Wi-Fi or cellular coverage strong enough to work from the campground (Zoom, Teams, etc.)? His answer was “NO” with a very unmotivated breathing and then, he hangup on me before I could say anything else.

  • Lisa N

Have stayed here before (it's only ok), but I would never go back just based on how rude the management/front office is. Called to make a reservation and man on the phone was especially mannerless - unhelpful, arrogant, one word answers, no thank yous or goodbye. I did not feel welcome, like my call was bothering him. MUCH friendlier and welcoming at Poplar Grove, 2 mins down the road!

  • Leonard Rempel

Absolutely a great RV campground near Ottawa! The owner is fantastic, the pool was very nice, the pull-thu's were huge, and all utilities worked as needed. The price was reasonable, so what else do you need? Definitely will stay here again on my next visit to Ottawa.

It's an OK place for an overnight stop. Bathroom is fairly clean. The showers cost $1 per 2 minutes which is not much .... but not appreciated when paying $55 per night. Pool is only open after 12:30 also not fun if you would like a morning swim. Pool is located directly beside the main road . About 20 minutes from downtown Ottawa in an industrial park area.

Best place to stay when visiting Ottawa. Family owned and operated for over 50years! The park has changed with the times offering very nice full service sites with patio, grass, trees and a place to park my tow-behind. Adorable and very close to city and amenities like shopping and restaurants but still maintain a rural quiet place to rest and relax.

  • Keith Kaiser

Stayed here for 7 days this summer. Close to our daughter, close to downtown, clean pleasant and made friends with the owners when we checked in and they treated us right, gave us good advice when we asked and all in all made it a great experience. We will use this campground every time we camp to visit our family. Thank you Mike for a your support.

  • Nancy Femia

It's a well-maintained campground. Lovely swimming pool. Perfect location for day outings to Ottawa. Close enough to good restaurants a few minutes away. Mike is friendly, and very helpful. Prices for camping sure beat hotel prices in and around Ottawa. Would definitely return.

  • Jim MacDiarmid

Mike Kyle and Joe run an amazing Park..... you could not ask for Kinder people and a better RV Park..... this is the best park to stay at in the Ottawa area and I have checked them all out and actually have stayed at some of the other ones

Good location but very dusty and dry. First two days starting at 7:00 am, heavy machinery moving around making a lot of noise and creating excessive dust all day. Owners quite unfriendly and defensive. If you just need a place to park then this place will do.

  • Rikki /Julius Reque

$25 just to use the sanidump?? Are you kidding me? Woman says there's a cost to having it pumped out. I understand that, I said, but sorry, that's the price of an overnight stay! She started bargaining but I couldn't get out of there fast enough.

  • Chad Davis

Had low expectations but was surprisingly happy with our two night stay in the pull through section. The sites are incredibly large, what feels like over 100 ft long. Was very easy for our 42 ft fifth wheel to maneuver, they have no low

I researched this campground and others in the Ottawa area. I booked this campground mainly for the proximity to Ottawa, the dog park (which is advertised on their webpage) and the reviews I read. Every bad review I read was about the

Sure miss this park . Took it for granted last year if ever we are in Ottawa again we will sure be staying there. This year we are in Milton and the park has terrible water pressure and a lot smaller lots for a lot more money .

  • Geoff Collier

Internet not working and man's comments was 'i don't care about that'. Lump of poo on men's toilet seat still there noon next day. Disorganized check-in. Seems like a nice place but the managers need to get their act together.

  • Jody Gervais

Mom and pop's run type place. Basic necessities are pay ... W&D ($3/$1) washrooms & shower ($1). Open field, best (or normal type of spots found in other campgrounds are secluded and seemed to be for seasonal clients only.

  • Kathleen Caught

WiFi works Great! Great reception and nice to have plenty of trees. Playground and soccer nets added fun for grandkids. We will definitely return! Easy access to shopping and Trudeau Carleton and our.favourite...golf

The camp ground is beautiful and well kept. The bathrooms are very clean. Nice pool. Reliable 50amp electrical even in hot weather. The owners are very friendly and helpful. Really great people. We’ll will be back.

  • Elizabeth Solley

Great no frills campground. All services work and there is a nice little pool. The campground is quiet, there are no trains, and the staff is friendly. I would certainly stay here again.

  • Denis Shelston

Very nice place. Great hosts. Close to the downtown core of Ottawa. Avoid sites G, H, very close to septic tank and too fragrant. Very good Wi-Fi and Over The Air TV reception.

  • Wayne Brightman

First off, the Lady who owns and is in charge. " Terry " is very pleasant. The laundry facilities, shower and the washrooms are keep clean. Unlike others that I have seen.

  • Bruce P

My thoughts: the camp ground is past its prime and needs some investment to upgrade facilities. The location is great for accessing Ottawa. Staff was not always amiable.

  • Debby Potter

Love the campground here. It's so handy to family. Terry takes great care in the flowers and sites. The price is great as is the Wi-Fi and space. We highly recommend.

  • Sandra Predinchuk

A bit out of the way and hard to find . But a very we kept and quiet campground. Owner is very likeable . Good wifi service. All in a a pleasant two days.

  • Daan Theman

If you just need a place to park your rv and want to visit ottawa it is good. But not for a 2 week holiday. Drive to downtown Ottawa is around 30 minutes
