Do not go to this company!! They will scam you out of money. Just to be clear, I have come across numerous complaints almost identical in nature to mine in relation to this specific location. And I have read at least one other post that reported this company to Apple. So they have now been reported and flagged by Apple directly, at least twice, and have many more 1-star reviews to back that up with. So I am confused as to when the 100% Customer Satisfaction Guarantee, which they are so adamant about, actually goes into affect? Altair Electronics charges for services that Jump+ & Apple do not charge for when your machine is covered by Apple Care. I was not told about any charges that I might incur, such as charges for diagnostics; nor was I given an invoice when I dropped off my machine. An invoice is required by Apple, as I have checked with them directly. Upon pick-up, the man claimed he had told me of a charge to run diagnostics and that I had agreed to this, which is completely untrue. If he had actually told me, then I would not have left the machine at all, and taken it to Jump+ directly. I have dealt with Jump+ many times before and I have never paid a dollar for any sort of repair or diagnostic, and nor did I this time when I had to take the machine in to them to address the issue. Altair also claims that a tiny sign in the corner of the counter with small print is adequate to inform customers of their policies. They are trying to swindle money out of unsuspecting customers through deceiving practices and blatantly lying about it after the fact. The only reason I even went to this store was because it was approved by Apple when I spoke with Apple Care; it was near Christmas and they said I could get it in sooner with Altair. Well, I now know the reason why there is no wait time for repairs. They have similar reviews for exactly the same sort of practices and general attitudes toward their customers as I experienced. The problem with my machine was not fixed nor properly addressed; the repair needed was not what Altair claimed to be the issue. Altair wanted to charge me an extra $100 to reinstall the OS (a complete ripoff, as I've done that myself many times before), when all that was needed was an uninstall of one program. When I brought the machine home, I had to take it right back to Jump+ as I could no longer even log into my computer to access anything. I brought it home with more problems then when I took it in. Altair claims to have "100% customer satisfaction" yet they were completely unwilling to do anything in order to rectify the situation. When picking up my computer from Jump+ I told them about my experience with Altair and they said the company had engaged in fraudulent activity by charging for services without an invoice. Jump+ also informed me that the company is known to use inferior parts by selling "used parts" and claiming the condition to be much better than they actually are. I also looked at some of the products while I was waiting and they were very overpriced. For example, I just purchased a new 4TB hard drive that cost less than Altair's price for that exact make of drive in only 1TB. When I informed Apple about what had occurred they agreed to send me merchandise to cover the cost of what I was swindled out of. (They were not able to issue a refund as they had not charged me directly, however, I was able to sell the item to recoup my cost.) Clearly, this all shows that Altair was in the wrong. They have not been acting in accordance with the standards set for Apple accredited dealers. Altair was contacted by the BBB and they were still unwilling to accept any responsibility. I suppose sliming $50 out of a customer is worth bad reviews and complaints with the BBB. FYI - Apple has since flagged this dealer!! Do not take your Apple products here!! Buyer Beware of Altair Electronics.

Not recommended. I booked time slot through Apple Support to drop-off a laptop for service, but on the day, I called a few hours before the appointed time to cancel. From the onset, the person on the other end was curt and condescending without apparent cause. I figured I was being considerate by calling in advance to cancel instead of just not showing up, but was told such a drop-off could be done any time regardless, and that, “… it’s not like it would get fixed right away, so…”. Others’ low reviews of this shop aren’t a surprise, and I’m pleased to have taken my business elsewhere. The first 5 seconds of experience with staff at Jump+ was enough to justify my change of plan, and was further reinforced by a frank disclosure of terms, high quality service, and respect for the customer. For what it’s worth, my perspectives are informed by the following factors: * Certificate — Excellence in Customer Service * 20+ years experience as a telecommunications technician * 25+ years experience performing (basic) installation or replacement of network interface cards, video cards, batteries, and internal drives on my own desktop and laptop computers; no hardware troubleshooting.

Probably the worst computer shop I set foot in. Dropped my 2011 MacBook Pro off for the track pad skipping around. I get a phone call the next day saying my track pad is done and if I’d like it replaced it would cost $149.99 + tax. Yeah sure no problem put a new one in, a used one doesn’t matter. Then I heard nothing days weeks then a month goes by and nothing. So I call and get a oh yeah they don’t make parts so you can come and get it we disconnected the track pad so you’ll just have to use an external mouse. Come in a few days later to get it head home to find out the fan in my computer is burning it’s self up half my keyboard doesn’t work I paid $78 and 6 weeks total to have my Mac even more broken then when I dropped it off. To top it off I took it back made them hook it back up and put it back together the way I dropped it off and they tried to charge me another $78 and my keyboard still doesn’t work. They have been reported to Apple for their “authorized sales and service” who is not pleased with their actions and contemplating removing them from authorized dealer list

I had some major laptop issues recently with my Macbook's battery as it had started to die, the cord was being weird and then my battery fried entirely. Being a university student in the middle of midterms, this was the worst timing ever and extremely stressful. Altair was able to take my laptop in the same day it died out on me! I was super concerned I was going to lose all my data as I had not preformed a backup prior (dumb decision) however, Altair saved everything as well as set up a hard drive with all my important files. They were able to reconnect the battery (I was able to continue using it for school) until the replacement arrived less than a week later. After the battery came in, they installed it right away! Fastest electronic service I have ever had! 100% recommend, life savers!! All the staff are super friendly and professional.

Very poor experience with this guys. Went their 3 times for my iPhone screen repair and I leave there my phone for repair and they told me that it takes3 hours for repair and after 3 hours when I come they told me that they cant repair and I have to go to apple store. I have apple care plus warranty and they still don’t explain me the reason why they refused the repair. Poor customer service. Wasted my time 3 times travelled from gananoque to Kingston. First time I booked my appointment and when i reach there they told they don’t have the screen for replacement and on the other day i called and they told me to come in and when I come they told me they need more time. I leave my phone and gone and when I come for pick up they didn’t repair and didn’t give me proper reason. Very disappointed .. one star for them

this place is horrible... the worst business practice i ever encountered in Canada...they greet you nicely for the first time then you become unsuspicious then they charge you for nothing without proper notification at first. They gave you false promise and they know they cant fix the problem but once you leave your laptop there... they will rid you off... when you come claim your laptop back when nothing is fixed, there will be another guy with a strong build and very rude manner, you will feel threatened if you do not pay what they ask for... i definitely feel if i do not pay (for nothing), i will be beaten up... will report this to Apple. hardly believe this is an authorized place... the worst service i ever had, feels like scam

Went to Altair Electronics to get the battery replaced on my IPhone 6s. Spoke with Apple and was informed that they would replace the battery free of charge due to recall. Altair Electronics first tries to charge me for the battery, then tells me that because my screen is cracked, there would automatically be a $200 charge. Told them I would get back to them and went to Jump Plus. Jump Plus changed the battery free of charge, no fuss at all. Thanks for nothing Altair Electronics. Potential customers beware.

Not professional at all, very impatient and abrupt with us when questions were asked. Made us feel like they were doing us a favour rather than welcome us as a NEW customers. Not everyone is familiar with electronics. Altair staff needs to remember this and not make people feel stupid. Their quality of work may be great but their people skills need improving. Will not be using them again or recommending them.

I've been going to this place off and on for the last 6 years and they are pretty good at what they do for their job and they do go over everything with you with your computers. I had an issue with my laptop and they told me they what they have done to it and because it's getting older they told me what I can replace it with or buy a new one and they are very helpful. I will definitely go back to them again.

Brought my MacBook Air in to have the battery replaced and was greeted with superb and speedy service. Very knowledgeable and on point with their customer service and pricing. The work and attitude towards their clientele is pleasant and professional. None of this feeling like a number or rushed at the front desk. Bonus of free parking and comfortable chairs to sit in while you wait. Highly recommend.

I wanted to take this time to thank Altair staff for all the help you have given us. You have proven to not only be reliable, but honestly and trust worthy. We are computer savvy but by no means professionals and knowing we have the support of the Altair team makes us feel confident in all our current and future electronic needs. Again, thank you Altair for your amazing service and products

After reaching the end of my moderate user skills in dealing with frustrating hard drive problems on my eight year old Acer laptop, I called to create a ticket, dropped it off and there was prompt help with diagnosis and recommended replacement of a corrupt hard drive. Quick service, reasonable pricing and I am good to go. Good to have these folks in Kingston. Well done.

Had my old iPhone 6 replaced by them, not only was the replacment refurbished garbage the phone was screwed after 12 hours. Couldnt even open built in apps with out the entire phone crashing and locking up. They refused to do anything about it, cost me over $200 to pay off my contract and get a new phone. I wouldnt deal with these clowns if you value your stuff.

  • Matt Nichols

Got my newest Mac computer here. The staff was helpful and friendly. They could have charged me more for the adapters I needed but instead they found a more economical solution to the problem that provided a better solution at a better price. Will be going there for future purchases and repairs if ever needed. Would recommend to anyone in the area.

  • Chris Moffatt Armes

Incredibly grateful to the whole Altair team. Came in with a MacBook that wouldn't boot - they were able to pin-down the problem (in a seemingly unrelated part) and had be back up-and-running within a week. set reasonable expectations, and exceeded all of them. Hope I don't *need* to return any time soon, but definitely will if it happens.

  • Mia Pincivero

absolutely terrible experience. made me feel stupid. gave absolutely no instruction or information on what was happening with my device when they took it for "repair." gave me no indication of how long or how to tell me when it was ready. excessive charge. id advise everyone to avoid this place.

  • Carolyn Barnett

We've been dealing with Altair for years and I prefer it to Jump Plus as I always get to deal with the same techs year after year...and they know us. They have even fixed things they didn't think they could. They've been there before Jump Plus and I always recommend them.

  • aakapell

I took in my poor macbook which wouldn't even open up with concerns of even losing all my data. It was promptly repaired AND backed up at a VERY reasonable price. all covid plus procedures observed. friendly service. highly recommend.

  • Kaitlin Proudfoot

Knowledgeable, professional staff who are willing to help walk-in customers quickly. Questions are answered in a friendly manner. Answers are explained well, even to those customers who are not familiar with tech jargon.

Thought my iPhone needed a new battery. They ran a diagnostic, and determined that the current battery is fine. I was not charged for the help, and the salesman was very pleasant

  • joy rupert

I took my computer to Altair Electronics to clean and install more memory. Len was very helpful and took the time to explain everything to me. I would highly recommend Altair.

We had a problem with our iPad screen. Turns out it was covered by warranty. Altair diagnosed it and we had a replacement unit in 3 days. Much better than a big box store!

I dropped off my laptop, the part was ordered, and it was repaired all within a few days. Friendly and professional. Will use this company for any repairs moving forward.
