We arrived on a cruise ship and none of the offered shore excursions appealed to us. We saw a bike tour offered to a a tea farm and wanted to book it. Unfortunately, that tour was starting from a different Cruise port than our ship was using. The owner of Local Travel Partners reached out and offered us a different bike tour that took us all around the area to different Mt Fuji vantage points. We booked it and have to say that it was the best decision ever! We were met right on the dock by the owner and our guide, Masa. They had amazing hybrid bikes, helmets, and bottles of water all ready for us. We rode through Shimizu and visited the city center (with great view of Mt Fuji) and then went to a fish market (and had some sushi for breakfast) and then put our bikes on the water bus. Our guide was very organized and knew that buying tickets for the water bus wasn’t enough…he knew that he also needed to position himself with our bikes right away - so we were ensured to get a spot on the water bus. (Unfortunately there were more people waiting than the water bus could carry) We rode to several more amazing locations (seeing Mt Fuji) at every stop. Our guide Masa really got to know us and made a couple recommendations for the remainder of our tour. We visited a tomato cafe (and ate tomatoes from a vending machine) and rode to the local university for lunch. While most people wouldn’t appreciate eating cafeteria food with university students, it was exactly the genuine experience we were hoping for. Making friends and helping students practice their English was a highlight of our entire day! We highly recommend the company and you will be so lucky if you get Masa as your guide.

During our Japan cruise, we initially planned to get a taxi and did a day touring Shimizu. Due to the language barrier, and knowing that majority of taxi drivers in Japan do not speak English, we decided to contact Hirokane san at Local travel partner at Shizuoka. It was a perfect match, Hirokane san not only is he friendly and helpful, but his English is perfect. He provided us with a comprehensive itinerary for the day. Due to some unforeseen delay, I could not confirm the reservation on time, by then all the English speaking drivers were taken. Hirokane san ended up recommending another driver, Mr Uchida, who uses his iPad as a translator. We acted upon his high recommendation, and we were not disappointed. Mr Uchida's lack of English language skill was well compensated by his local knowledge, his patience and eagerness to assist, also importantly his iPad. The tour was a memorable one, it ran one hour overtime, our tired legs were to blame. In order to compensate, we offered an additional fees, amazingly, Mr. Uchida refused to accept. We were both impressed as well grateful, This is another "Japan Experience" we are to cherish! Many thanks Uchida san, also Hirokane san for your recommendation!

We visited Shimizu during a cruise. I am handicapped and cannot manage the stairs into a bus. Thus we needed a private tour and I came about Local Travel Partners. This was perfect. The communication and planning before the trip with Hirokane Ishikaki were phantastic. He always responded quickly and appreciated my special needs. Our guide on that day, Tetsuya Nakazawa, was so kind and caring and we had a wonderful tour. Compared to a bus tour we saw much more in a shorter time but I could still go on my pace without having to hurry.
